- Many patients come in hoping to rid themselves of excess skin and fat without having to undergo surgery. It's an understandable desire, but unfortunately not always possible.
The skin is like a rubber band. Once you stretch it to a certain point, it will not recoil back to its original shape. Now there are some patients that truly just have a little bit of laxity to their skin that they want to tone up. There are non-surgical energy devices that can accomplish that. But for someone who has so much loose skin that it creates a fold or overhangs (particular in the lower abdomen for example), then the only way to improve that area is to surgically remove the skin.
It is important to have a discussion with your surgeon on what options would be appropriate for you.

My friend had a finger injury. Everything above the first bend of his thumb is gone, no meat all the way around. All that’s left as one flat bone. It’s all healed up but it looks like a skeleton has the tip of his meat costumes thumb cut off. His entire bone from the first bend of his thumb is completely exposed all the way around. Can a hospital just leave it this way?

You can do liposuction with saggy skin, but you will still be left with saggy skin afterwards. If you have overhanging skin, you will likely need a tummy tuck. But that is something that you can discuss with your surgeon.
