Located on the great Guanacaste plain, the city of Liberia is the capital and first canton of the province of Guanacaste, created on December 7, 1848, approximately 203 km from the city of San José. It limits to the east with Bagaces, to the west with the Pacific Ocean, to the north and northwest with La Cruz, to the northeast with Upala and to the south and southwest with Carrillo.
Its surface area is 1,567.67 km2, distributed in five districts: Liberia, Cañas Dulces , Mayorga, Nacascolo and Curubandé It has an average height of 144 m above sea level, a warm climate prevails, where the average temperature ranges between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius. It has two very marked seasons, where floods are very common in the rainy season and severe droughts in summer, phenomena that leave countless losses in agriculture and livestock.
