Langham Corallian and the importance of serving temperature

- An English sparkling wine tasting in two halves - I made a slightly gung ho purchase of a wine which was, in theory, already chilled, and didn't bother to bring the usual ice jacket along. So I think it was probably too warm for the initial tasting out in the woods and appeared to be a bit rustic.
Later on I took it back home, put it in the fridge for a couple of hours and it was a completely different wine.
Yes, definitely agree with your conclusion. Never seem to enjoy a second glass of an open bottle quite do much.
That cap certainly gave us a surprise!!
All the best!!
Interesting stuff! Good old Friday fizz 😎
Very interesting review
For what it might be worth; I often find myself swirling my sparkling around in the bowl, especially if it’s a wine with a bit of age. It doesn’t dispel a lot of the CO2, but the added airing really does the wine a favor, at least for my taste.
Also, concerning temperature, I find whites (and sparkling/champagne) more enjoyable if it’s not too cold. 8-10 Celsius is ideal for pouring, and again, the swirling can be used to settle on a preferred, slightly higher temperature.
Key is the correct stemware; my goto for sparkling is either a Riesling or, if we’re talking classic, vintage of 15 years or more, I go big, with a burgundy glass 🍷
Thanks again 🥂
I use a Picard (frozen food supermarket chain in France, basically the same as Iceland but unsurprisingly, a lot better) bag that's of course designed to keep your frozen food frozen whilst transporting it around.
Just a case of popping that in your normal backpack, using your usual ice jacket thing or ice box frozen brick things and that works an absolute treat. Much more effective than just the ice jacket alone.
Calibrate your themometer in some crushed ice and some just-boiled water.
That's a great suggestion - thank you!
