i've had 5 bottles of Nyetimber over a period of years. 3 of them have been compromised - remaining bottle content and poured glasses flat within 10 minutes of opening. Very poor batting average. One of these happened at a wine tasting where i explained my bad experiences before the bottle was opened and thus i looked like a wine savant (far from it!).
Sorry to hear that! Quite surprising as I've had dozens of bottles of Nyetimber over the years (quite possibly over a hundred?) and can only think of one or two which were possibly faulty. I think in both cases it seemed likely they had been stored badly by third parties - possibly heat damage. As I think I may have mentioned in the video, one of their winemakers (Brad Greatrix) is bordering on fanatical about wine faults, and nobody in the English wine industry has done more to raise awareness about the relatively lesser known fault of "light strike". Nyetimber is never sold in clear glass bottles as some producers do for their rosé and in fact I believe they use amber rather than brown glass which apparently gives better protection. Plus there's the Diam corks as I mentioned in the video, which should make TCA ("corked" wine) practically impossible. I can imagine you might be put off for life after that sort of track record! ...but if you ever did take the plunge again and encountered another faulty bottle, I am sure the company would be responsive if you let them know that was the case.
@@EnglishSparklingWine I could have got unlucky I suppose. I will try some again and see how I get on. I generally buy South African MCC (made in champagne method) these days. I don't know if you've tried but it would be interesting to hear your opinions. It's quite a lot cheaper too!
