    For someone with a healthy eye what would be the recommend magnifier level. Amazon has from .25, .50, etc all the way to 4. I spend over 8 hours in front of a computer. Thanks!!

    I tried the Gunnar glasses based on your reviews and the anti-reflective properties were awesome; however, the magnification caused me more eye discomfort than not wearing them at all. Now I'm trying some Felix Gray's without magnification.

      I agree. I can't wear lenses with a slight magnification all day. I'd rather wear them only while on a computer.

    great video. I loved the bird poop example lol. I have been researching and there are different types or strengths of these computer glasses, some allow you to see further than your arms length away from the screen up to 1m away, please make a video describing on these different strengths. Im eager to know if one can use them for cooking, use of the cellphone and etc and which strengths allow you to do which task. Another video I haven't seen is an elaboration of close up glasses and computer glasses and if they are the same or not.

    Thanks a lot for the video and I do have a question. Considering the slight magnification dependancy, would that be only the caffein-like psychological dependancy which one can overcome, or do the eyes actually accomodate to the magnification as they get (at least so was I always taught) when wearing someone else's prescription eyewear?

    Fantastically useful information my friend. I'm one of those guys who is informed that what I'm using is considered above average quality, but I will still buy something based on that premise and then continue researching until I'm positive about my choice in the end. Truly computer/gaming glasses are conducive to alleviating symptoms of regular tech use, and they're great! I don't mind the dependency, it's a smart choice in the long run with health benefits as well. Let's go get a cup of coffee. Kidding! Thanks for the great video!

    Hi! So I watched a different review on the Felix Gray glasses and they said the magnification made it uncomfortable for them to play video games, like it made them kind of dizzy. So that person got some $600 pair from their optometrist instead but I don’t have that kind of extra money lol. He suggested getting it without the magnification but here you say that’s the big helping factor! I do play a fair amount of video games and I’m a Sonographer (ultrasound) so between my machine and the computer I stare at lots of screens!!! So I was thinking of getting a pair of Felix Grays with no magnification. What is your recommendation?

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people do get dizzy but the vast majority feel the benefit of the magnification more than anything else.
      I personally didn’t feel dizzy with Felix Gray even with the magnification and I like how little color their lenses have.
      I would personally go for the Felix Gray with magnification to reduce eye fatigue. I’m pretty sure you could always return it for the non magnified version if it bothers you.
      I hope that info helps. Thanks for the comment. Have an awesome day!

    Great video! I have a question, is it necessary to combine f.lux with computer lens? Or I only need one of them?

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you would want to chose one or the other. f.lux will cut the blue light for you on your computer monitor. I've tried it and found it too be just a bit too distracting. The Sepia tone that it gives wasn't to my liking. A lot of people enjoy it though. Personally, I like using the eyewear with as little color as possible but with as much blue light filtering as possible. That's why I'm a big fan of Felix Gray.
      Hope this info help. Thanks for the question.

    Hello, thank you for your video I just have a question for you..
    I currently wear nearsighted glasses for most of the day and when I am not on computers my eyes are fine and not strained. I work on computers 8 hours + a day with my distance glasses on but I am getting a tremendous amount of eye strain on a daily basis. Would it be better for me to just wear the distance glasses for driving and wear a pair of prescription free computer glasses at work? Thanks

    Great elaborate videos on computer glasses with your background in opticianry. I'll pass them along to friends and family who I am trying to convince of the benefits of computer glasses with their long hours in front of a screen. I have a question that I hope you can answer. I get a slight blue glare in my field of vision using my gunnars.
    Could this be a lens defect or might the spacing of my eyes not be ideal for the glasses?

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s normal with Gunnar’s because the anti-blue light coating on the front of the lens. Just about all computer glasses have this coating which causes that blue glare.

    Amazing video and information.
    You said that taking eye breaks is more beneficial than the glasses in the long run. Very interesting and I would like your input if you could.
    My line of work is computers all day. I'm worried about the strain I put on my eyes in long term since I already wear glasses (nearsighted&astigmatism)
    I put both my computer screens and phone on the "blue light" filter, but after your video I'm realizing I'm still staring at a screen with pixels just at a less powerful color temperature.
    So from what I'm getting it doesn't matter what you stare at, just make sure you take breaks? All this time I thought it was "screens" making your eyes bad, but I guess it's just staring for long periods of time at a brighter light will have the same effects?
    Thanks so much for your great content and knowledge.

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Most of the strain comes from our eye muscles having to work extra hard to stay focus when things are within arms length. Those same muscles are relaxed when we are looking at thing in the distance.
      Digital devices defiantly have a big part to play since they are a light source. Everyone’s setup is different but breaks are a big help. We still don’t know enough about blue light to say that it is the main culprit. Nonetheless computer glasses are a precautionary step that is worth the investment.
      I personally found that a blue light filter on my lenses was more comfortable than f.lux or night mode on a phone.
      I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks! Have an awesome day!

    Found your channel as I was reading more about blue light blocking glasses, super cool that your youtube channel is accessible for reviews and questions! I really want to get blue light blocking/computer glasses. I don't have a problem with my vision, so I've never purchases eyeglasses. I don’t think I’ve formed any of the digital eye strain symptoms but I’ve increased my hours spent on my laptop, so I really want to take precautions. I've been doing my research and Pixel filter 50% of blue light, Gunner's amber lenses filter 65% of blue light, Felix Grey filters 50% of blue light and Spektrum filters 50% of blue light (but now I get that the prospek aren't "computer glasses"). To be honest, I didn’t fully understand the magnification option, but after watching all your videos I’m getting the picture. Now I don’t know if my first pair of glasses should have the magnification or not (I don't think I mind getting dependent on them if they're better for my eyes in the long run. I would wear the glasses at home mostly when I'm on the laptop/phone which is a lot (basically all day) since all my studies and free time are on there. Your recommendation would be greatly appreciated!

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't get the glasses with magnification unless you think you'll be spending 6-7 or more hours staring at the laptop and phone. A lot of digital eye strain can be prevented by simply taking breaks every 20-30 mins. If you don't need prescription and you're not feeling strain then glasses from spectrum, felix Gray and pixel should be just fine.
      I hope this helps. Let me know if there is any other way we can help. We're here to serve.

    Hey man great videos and advice. I have slight myopia (like -.5) and want some glasses for console gaming. I sit about 3 - 4 meters from the TV, would the Gunnars work ok for me considering the magnification? Thanks heaps!

    • @EyeInfluence

      It's going to cost you a bit more but I would go with Gunnar lenses with your custom Rx. Since you're naturally nearsighted the magnification in Gunnar lenses could work against you.

    Hi, thanks for the fantastic, clear videos!
    One point I didn't understand -
    I've seen you commenting that you, personally, don't like magnification.
    If not - why should I buy computer glasses?
    More specifically - why would I buy Spektrum?
    (As you said, blue light effect from screens wasn't proved to be worse than the sun just yet).
    Thanks!

    • @putskan
      @putskan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And will they help reducing eye strain?

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't like the magnification because my mind can't tolerate it. It's a personal thing. Many people wear computer glasses with a +.25 and they feel like it makes a huge difference. It's really up to the individual.
      Now, this doesn't mean that I don't like computer glasses. In fact, I wear computer glasses that are set to my doctor prescribed prescription.
      Spektrum glasses don't have any power in them unless you order their glasses with prescription, at which point you'll be paying extra. They make good glasses. It just depends if they have the style frames that you're looking for.

    Hi, in long term what are the negative effects of gunnar lenses that have 50mm pupile distance for someone that are close to 62mm PD ?

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a huge PD difference. At that point it’s not a simple decentration, that’s more like Prism. Thankfully it’s a low power but it may cause more strain than your trying to prevent.
      I don’t think you’ll find that to be a problem though because a Gunnar frame with a 50 PD would be too small for someone that has a 62 PD. Gunnar seems to be adjusting the PD based on the size of the frame.
      I hope this helps.

    I have always had drier eyes. Then recently I had an issue where my eyes were over watering for two month's. I developed eye strain from the computer at work and my cell phone use. Per the optometrist, he recommended 1.25 readers... however, I would have to be pretty close to the screen for those to actually work. I have read that it is better to be 20 to 25 inches approximately from the computer screen. Upon my own research online, I purchased a pair of blue blocker glasses AKA gamer glasses, from Amazon. They are called Prospek. These have helped greatly. I now would not be without blue blocker glasses.
    I plan to purchase a pair of Gunner's, so then I will have a pair at work and a pair at home to wear when I'am on my cell phone.
    My eyesight is fine, however your eyes can definitely still become strained from the blue light emitted fom your electronic devices, including your TV.
    Also, I started taking a better fish oil supplement, Vitamin A supplement and more natural eye drops from the health store for the dry eyes. My eyes finally stopped over watering, and now I always have my blue blockers at work and at home! =)

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi George, I personally didn't like the tint when I was outside walking around. You can get the "clear" version of Gunnar lenses but the amber tint helps with contrast in front of a monitor.
      In short, if you want the true gunnar experience, I would say you need 2 separate glasses.
      Hope this helps. have an awesome day!

      Actually that is really helpful just got my new prescription and I was considering ordering up two pairs of the gunnar one with the crystalline and one with the amber as I really like the frame styles they have. However was concerned on if the focus on these being on computer glasses if I should get a pair of these and then find an AFK pair from a different vendor.

      Happy to hear. I recently discover what I think is the "goldielocks" computer glasses. They are by a company called Felix Grey. They make great lenses. They don't have a color quite as noticeable as the gunnar amber lenses but they are not as clear as the crystalline lenses either. They are right in between and I enjoyed wearing them. I even wore them to drive and there was very little color influence coming from the lenses.
      You should look into them. Have an awesome day George!

Awesome, because there is this bloody bird that keeps finding a way to enter my house when I'm not at home and it always takes a dump right on my computer screen, it doesn't shit on my computer desk or on the carpet, it's just the computer screen for some reason.

    I am confused about my eyes..Not sure if the eye strain is due to age related presbyopia or staring at the computer for too long. I do feel that things do get blurry when it is very near to me, but my eye fights it and finally focuses on it.. Could this be causing the problem? If I wear a reading glass, things really look clear on my phone, but I don't want to use it for monitors as it is little far away and I can actually see clearly.. I am now confused should I start using a reading glass or a computer glass.. Any thoughts anyone? :)

      The slight magnification is really the "X Factor". Without it, you are not really assisting your eyes much. Yes, the color helps, but the slight magnification is the secret ingredient that has placed Gunnar Eyewear at the top of the list.
      Felix Grey is a company that is open about the use of slight magnification. They are the first that I found to openly give customers the option.

      Not at all. There are many great options out there. If you're just looking to block blue light then there are lot's of good options under $40. Here's a link that will help www.eyeinfluence.org/single-post/Best-Computer-Glasses-Under-40
      If you need something with prescription, it will run you a bit more but there are still affordable options. Check out Felix Gray and Gunnar. Gunnar has some that are $50-$70.
      The most costly computer glasses would be those that you get filled with your prescription. That could run you on average of $200+

    I also want to know what’s your profesional opinion on “eye exercises” , I see them a lot in the internet as a way to not rely on glasses, and a natural way to make your eyesight better.

      Alex Ruiz Suarez best advise I can give you is to rest your eyes. Take a break every 20 min. During that break take a few long blinks to wet your eyes and look into the distance to refocus. It just takes a few seconds but it really helps.
      Eye exercises are great but rest is really the best way to go.

      Mariah, im a big fan. Unfortunately the enChroma glasses do not block out much blue light. They are pretty dark so they act more like sunglasses. They are designed to block out a certain range of the spectrum in order to enhance those that color blind eyes can’t see as well.

      mesmeskaty hello! Great question. I would have your doctor write you a prescription for computer use. If your current RX is -1.75 then your computer rx will most likely be -1.25 or so. Tell your doctor exactly how far away your monitor is and they will show you a prescription that will be better for that distance.
