    I have to say this video makes me want to paint up a couple of armies with florescent effects like vehicle lights, targeting scopes, ethereal wraithbone armor, cybernetics, psyker eyes, and tyranid bioluminescent bits, and then play a game under a black light, possibly in city terrain (with more lighting effects for lamp posts and such) with a few pen-light spotlights. I think it would probably look pretty cool though you would have to tag all the pips on the dice too just to see them clearer. ;)

    I use Golden's high flow fluresent pink for my necrons. The glow is much better then vallejo's fluresent pink. I can't compare them to other brands though, as I don't own any others. Golden's high flow acrylics work great for miniatures, i would suggest buying some if you are looking for a new brand of paint.

I'm painting Thousand Sons and Tzeentch demons for my wife, I was trying to give them very bright lining in places to make them look like they glow with warp energy, using glow in the dark paints. The results were disappointing and I realized I was better served switching to Florescent/neon to achieve the effect.

    i was surprised to see that the blue is almost not shining under UV light. I only used GSW blue fluor paint to paint some nuka cola quantum for FWW and is a bit darker than i would like to, but still is pretty shining under the UV light. Maybe the video doesnt show it well, and compared to others the shine is not so bright... so it only makes that i want to try the other colours now!

    Excellent review! One line you might not have noticed is Warcolours, they have fluorescent ones too, but haven't seen them in person to compare. Also, if you need volume, Vallejo's RC Premium line, aimed at the RC cars crowd over airbrush, comes in very big bottles, as apparently also do the Golden ones which are said to be great.
    And as an aside, I did not like the GSW white. Not sure if it was my bottle or if it was the product, but instead of being a fluorescent it was essentially a very typical glow in the dark, which also meant it wasn't actually white, but a milky greenish yellow, and one which precipitated a lot. I'm still in the market for a True white fluo, specially to mix with the other fluos for highlights.

    • @TwoRavenStudios
      @TwoRavenStudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I'll have to look into Warcolours. I tried out the Golden High Flow Acrylic fluorescents after I made this video. I found them to be ok, but not great. Very similar to the vallejo mecha paints. I love that brand overall though, they go so nicely through an airbrush.
      The GSW white is definitely not a pure white and does separate horribly. I've gotten some good effects mixing it with non-fluo paints to make them brighter though.

      @@TwoRavenStudios And just now i recalled some that might be the best ever but are sold as pigments and not done for minipainting: The stuff by Stuart Semple on Culture Hustle. His Pink is effectively the brightest pink i've ever seen, anywhere, even before a blacklight (have some and can attest to this), and his relatively recent LIT line is amazing (still gotta get me some of this). The issue of course is that they're more expensive than pretty much any paint for miniatures. But if you can, do check that out!

    Great video, very helpful as I'm looking to get a set of fluorescents. Two questions:
    1) Any experience with the AK Acrylics fluorescents? Element Games in the UK sells them, at least, so they're not impossible to get in Europe.
    2) I've heard from other sources that the GSW fluorescents all separate really hard in very little time, and that you basically need a paint shaker to be able to use them at all. This is kind of scaring me away from GSW towards the hopefully more reliable Scale75 set. Any comments on this?

    • @TwoRavenStudios
      @TwoRavenStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have not used AK interactive fluorescents, I was unaware that they made them. I have used many other or their products and have no complaints.
      The GSW paints do separate and require quite a bit of shaking, they do come with agitator balls in the droppers though. Full disclosure: I have a paint shaker that I use with them, but the reason I have the paint shaker is from using scale 75 paints. All of their paints separate quite badly and they don't come with agitators in the droppers.
      Honestly all of the fluorescent paints I tried need more shaking than your average paint, I don't think you are escaping that.

    Awesome video, but I'm a novice with miniatures and still have questions. I am really digging FX, but what's the best coat for fluorescent paints? I want to use a gloss for the project I'm working on, but am not sure if that'd affect the vibrancy or paint itself.

    • @TwoRavenStudios
      @TwoRavenStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally don't normally varnish my miniatures and on the rare occasion I do I use a matte one. I don't think a gloss coat would affect the vibrancy of the paint but I have never used it over fluor paints so I can't say for certain.

      Fluorescent paints are very translucent, they will barely show up at all over black. • @TwoRavenStudios
      @TwoRavenStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like pretty much all fluor miniature brand paints the GSW is rather transparent so it takes a few layers to build up a good color. I am currently filming some new videos and they should be released soon. One is a video comparing fluorescent paints from an art store and there are definitely more opaque paints out there once you branch out from mini paints.
      As for it going on lumpy and streaky, you really have to shake them extra well. I have a mini paint shaker on my desk that I use.

    REMEMBER FLUORECENT =/= GLOW IN THE DARK. You need to make sure the paints say they glow in the dark.

  • @mariax569
    @mariax569 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They glow only in black light? Or generally they can glow in the dark?

    • @andrewstambaugh240
      @andrewstambaugh240 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Black light only.
      You can buy glow in the dark paints, either colored or dry to milky clear. Glowing works without a uv light, but the fluorescents have way more true and vibrant color, and i always want to use a blacklight to really show off the glow anyway. That favors just using fluorescents instead.
      If going for glow paints, shop around for the brightest smallest grain highest grain count paints you can.
      I use some glow paints, but they are not model paints: they don't shrink, they stick and glob, they don't coat a surface evenly at all.
      I limit them to small uses like completely covering an eye (needs to be gloves on thick enough you won't see any eye detail after) or gems on the minis.
      The dry clear blue is nice for eyes (can barely have eye detail), is mostly hidden on weapons, etc.
      The colored green, orange, red glow paint is good for recessed/non-visible eyes or larger or beady eyes (masks, goblins, lizardmen). If their eye is large enough, it can look cool to have a glowing eye with a dark reptilian slit painted atop.

  • @abcdodd

  • @sirbaconbuster
    @sirbaconbuster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is importnat to note that blue and red pigments do not fluoresce and thus a true fluorescent blue/red/purple paint does not exist. The one's that glow under the black light (mostly Green Stuff) would have to be mixed with a true fluorescent pigment (like pink, green, yellow, or orange) which is why the Green Stuff red would look more pink under a black light.
