BLOOD THINNERS by Professor Fink

Professor Fink first briefly reviews Virchow's Triad of Factors That Predispose to Blood Clots [Blood Hypercoagulability; Vascular Wall Injury/Damage & Venous Stasis] and the Assessment of Thromboembolic Risk. Then the 3 major groups of Blood Thinners taken orally are examined: Antiplatelet Drugs; Warfarin and the Direct-Acting Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs). Reference is made how the INR is used to evaluate warfarin dosage, and managing patients in the dental setting who are taking Blood Thinners.

What would you suggest regarding stopping 75 mg of Plavix and 81 mg aspirin before a tooth extraction on a 79 yr. old female who has previously had a stroke, heart attack, A-fib, stint, Type 2 Diabetes, Congestive Heart Failure, 5 Artery Bypass Surgery, Stage 3 Kidney Disease, and recently, issues with low blood pressure?
