Mine has power. I connect the cables, but the screen remains blue, which it would be before inserting a video tape. I assume a different approach is needed for this?
@juicy repairs, the RF fort pin broke off and stuck in my mega drive 1 a few days ago so I bought an AV cable to get it working again. It was working on my Samsung HD tv with this until the pin got stuck. I’m trying to set up the AV on my Tecknika TV but it’s not picking up the mega drive. Can you please advise if the stuck pin from the RF port would stop the AV being being picked up? Thanks.
I found this issue on fifa 97 only. If i change the cartridge to another game, the game works. Can you provide a link if you know how to solve the cartridge issue? Cartridge chip looks fine.
i suspect my new tv just doesnt know what to do with a 25 year old machine, it used to work im getting a black screen somtimes blue screen, however i hear the menu music?
Tried this on mine but still get two weird blue stripes on the screen on switching it on, the console looked pretty good inside when I opened it up. I'm the only owner and it's just not working now :(

Short for isopropyl alcohol; it's a rubbing alcohol. 91-99% IPA is recommended to clean electronics due to there being very little water content and dries very quickly.
from what i saw online not always, i was also using a monitor not a TV and an adapter (composite to HDMI). i will at somepoint get something to test it properly and if its still an issue i will do a revist video

Cleaned one i found at a relative's place and it fixed the issue! Pretty sure the gunk on the cartridge and the reader was at fault
girlfriend must have been happy you used her toothbrush

Ok mine does this but it's weird as it will only read sonic 2 any other game goes to the black screen

Is it not advised to use a hoover on the dust?
Hot bleach water. That's what you need. Not just a wipe.

thats strange, is your AV cable dirty at all? Perhaps try a new one? I've had it in the past when i bought a "new" cable which turned out to be junk
