I found myself tearing up during his scene with Courtney in Scream 2022, outright crying during his death scene, and then choking up again when his theme played briefly in Scream 6. I cried when Randy died too. That’s the mark of good writing, when you can connect with characters in a horror movie. Most of the time in the horror genre, it’s the exact opposite.
@@robogreek3157I was really sad that he died, but the scene is very comedy heavy. I think Randy would've wanted it that way, but it felt like the series didn't care/appreciate him and considered him as a side character when he could've been a main protagonist.

Scream is one of my comfort series that I put on all the time. Dewey is forever my favorite and his relationship with Sid just always makes me smile. I missed him in this last one.
The saddest part was during friends season 9 in which Courteney and David were struggling to have a child which is why they wrote in Monica's storyline that she and Chandler couldn't have children. While shooting the episode where Rachel delivers Emma, Courteney had a miscarriage the week or month prior which made it even more difficult. I hope we get the history of Stu Macher next
I had no idea that was why she had a storyline in friends for that reason. I thought it was just the whole thing they were doing with each woman having unconventional childrearing methods. That actually makes so much sense. At least they finally had one irl
I would say that Gale even quickly deteriorates from her strong persona after Dewey's death. In the next film not only does she look like she aged 20 years but even how she tackles the case is somehow less powerful, just as determined but her heart is gone. Her last fight with ghost face in that movie giving off the feeling that she was not only expecting to die but secretly okay with it. She could have stayed in the closet and survived mostly intact but she rushes out like Dewey would have.

Looks aside, I hadn't thought about it that way. I've read a lot online about Gale deciding to leave the room instead of waiting for help but, looking at it that way, she just seems done during the entire fight. She's lost too much and she just wants it to be over, one way or another.

When you think about it, the Scream franchise is pretty much about facing the past and moving on. That's sort of one of the great things about the horror genre. It occasionally takes time to sit with you and asks the bold questions. Emphasis on occasionally because the other time the genre just wants to get drunk and high with you.
In defence of his final fight, Dewey at that point was aged and a reclusive heavy drinker plus the aforementioned damage to his body had him in a very substandard state. Amber on the other hand was young, active and crazy.
Thanks to the nerve damage and slight numbness. And drinking, Dewey wasn't in the best shape to take on Ghostface. But he died trying to do the right thing. After getting stabbed multiple times Dewey knew what the best way to stop the killer for good. Put a bullet in the skull. He looked like a badass getting ready to do it too.

You seem to really like the nickname/insult Dewdrop, but I’m surprised you didn’t mention how Dewey simply ignored it and didn’t give Stone the satisfaction of becoming annoyed or angry. His reaction to the insult further emphasized to me how much more mature and confident he’d become. Scream 3 was really Dewey’s most successful movie as a character. He was living alongside a famous actress, he had a job with some glamour to it, he removed Sydney’s file from the sheriff department, he saved Gale from getting murdered (and arguably everyone except Tom from getting blown up), they figured out some stuff before the killer revealed everything (for once), he was still standing at the end, he killed the killer, and he got with Gale for years before the relationship ended. He probably FELT more successful up until 4 started, since he’d become the sheriff by then, but he was largely ineffectual throughout the movie, his one “success” being he saved Gale in the barn, but it’s possible Gale was always supposed to survive that attack, so who knows.
I was so excited for this one, Dewey is one of my all time favourite horror characters! Excellent episode, as always. Always love the little 'bits' you do
