while i agree their canon cutie marks are too similar AND too busy, i do kinda wish the marks you made gave them something in common, like one color in all their palettes or a repeating element. theyre not destined to be besties forever, but they did earn their cutie marks together, and i feel like that would impact their marks. that being said, your designs feel more consistent to canon and are generally more appealing, so well done!
@Bee_814 for the style of the show, yes, i feel like the CMC's marks are too busy. cutie marks are meant to be very simple, limited to 2 or 3 colors for the majority of characters with simple shapes to be easy to read at a distance. if you took, for example, sweetie belle's cutie mark and shrunk it to a quarter of its size, would you still see the purple outline? would the star or music note be visible? i highly doubt it. i would just see the silhouette of the shield and indistinguishable blobs of color within it. i doubt the indents on the shield even read at all from a distance.
Okay okay the entire POINT of cutie marks is not to be something you’re “damned” to, it represents something you’ll always love and feel happy doing. Applebloom’s has an apple, meaning she’ll always have her family to rely on, Sweetiebell has a music note because she loves to sing, and Scootaloo has a wing and a lightning bolt to show her dedication to speed and learning to fly. Most ponies have cutie marks that are specifically talents simply because that talent is what they love to do. You can have a cutie mark that isn’t a talent! Like the Apple family! However, it can also represent their PURPOSE, like nurse Red Heart. She finds purpose and passion in helping ponies and her cutie mark reflects that. The crusaders are the same, all having similar cutie marks because they found their purpose TOGETHER as a club and as friends. Cutie marks are versatile, and they can be anything. I think their marks represent who they are really well 🫶🫶
Also Applebloom has the heart because (I think) she's the "heart and soul" ❤ of the group and the one that brought them together in the first place, and finds purpose doing things with friends (which is also why she was in that mood during the season 6 ep On Your Marks). And Sweetie Belle has the music note inside a star. Hmmm. . . Does it represent her desire to be a star on stage or something? And how would it correspond to the main talent and mark of being a Crusader? 🤔 (Btw the shield is a coat of arms, a neat little reference to the Crusaders of old, but the CMC are "Crusaders" for cutie marks.)
I feel cutie marks are up to interpretation. Like how Diamond Tiara has a Tiara and in her episode she tells us she never knew what it was for untill she looked at it in a different light, or Trouble Shoes who thought his talent was bad luck until the cmc told him that it wasn't and he became a rodeo clown. Although I don't personally have anything against the cmc I do think that they should have done WAY more with AppleBloom's apprenticeship with Zecora, it was really fun to see her whipping up potions with Zecora especially since she was the only one who believed in Zecora from the beginning.
I really liked the potion cutiemark Applebloom got in her Luna dream episode. It made sense with the skills they showed her having in previous episodes while keeping the apple motif
It was such a lovely headcanon I heard years ago that a solid rewrite of Applebloom as an adult would have her expand the apple family business by her potion usage. Really expand on the hidden idea of Earth Pony magic being druidic in nature.
I recently saw a redesign where they made AppleBlooms cutiemark a poison apple from Snow White. I thought it was a really clever way to represent her love of alchemy and potion making while keeping her cutiemark an apple. It’s my favorite redesign I’ve seen, I can’t remember the artists @ though
I think a lotta people missed your point. The OG marks are just not show accurate or appealing. The concept isn't that bad, it's the execution. The shield and colors look horrendous. They just do. There's nothing wrong with them wanting to help people, just make their marks show individuality because if they ever split off as friends, they deserve to have a mark that isn't fully connected to another pony.
Exactly, that was the point of the redesign. And, tbh, I like this interpretation of their cutie marks better. I never liked the CMC cutie marks, because they looked too similar to each other. I get their calling can be to help other ponies find their cutie marks, but I think cutie marks should represent the pony themselves and not necessarily their destiny or calling. It would be more impacting if cutie marks represented individually and character. But, that's just me and not really what the show went for. Idk, cutie marks as a concept in the show always confused me, lol! First, it is a talent thing, and next it's a destiny thing. Never liked the talent stuff either... TL;DR I think cutie marks should be about the individual pony and who they are, rather than their destiny or talent. And I love the redesigns. Now, plz comment section, don't hurt me 😅
Well, for some ponies, their cutie marks are VERY strongly impacted by their connections to others. Some examples are the Flim Flam brothers, and the entirety of the Apple family. Flim and Flam's marks are literally two portions of an unevenly cut apple. They belong together, and when separated, the twins are incomplete. And while the Apple family does have a dedication to Apple farming, we also know that's not all their Apple themed cutie marks are about, since Applejack got her cutie mark from realizing she belongs with her Family, not from realizing how much she likes farming and farm life or growing Apples. So saying that ponies' cutie marks should be entirely unique or individualistic i think does a lot of ponies a disservice. Varied, certainly, but that's where details like coloration and symbols inside the larger design come into play. And while the Crusaders could've changed the colors between marks, they did have different shapes inside the larger shields to cover their differences.
@kimberlyramin You essentially said what I said, though I disagree that the CMC marks show individuality. The apple CMs you mentioned are perfect examples. Two halves of an apple, but they're still also apple farmers and apples aren't inherently tying two ponies together. Shields in really awful colors, do. No one else has a mark even slightly similar. Meaning the three are basically forced to be a trio no matter what. And realistically, no one should ever have a destiny of "You must be friends with these people forever, you are never an individual" even if they love being friends and stay friends, that's a pretty sucky fate because it kinda removes that choice and autonomy. If they just didn't have the shields, they could have a similar coloring or something else in common without all having the exact same shield symbol. The shield and colors imo are unnecessary and make the marks look gaudy. They could've done it so much better and as many artists have proven, it wasn't hard to do this. This person might not have chosen to make their marks interwoven but many other artists have and I don't understand why everyone is hating when that's a perfectly valid way of viewing things. (Not saying you're hating specifically, comment section in general)
I’ve often thought abt redesigning the cmcs marks too and something I thought of for Applebloom’s mark would be something potion/magic themed due to how she acted as somewhat of an apprentice to Zecora earlier on in the series! I think that could’ve been something interesting that developed in the series, Applebloom and Zecora didn’t get enough development rip I would’ve loved an alchemist Applebloom

Honestly this makes me want an episode where they run into an adult blank flank and try to help them get their cutie mark but it turns out the pony is just chill with not having a cutie mark and doesn’t see themself as lesser for not having one. Idk if the show has done that aside from starlight glimmers anti cutie mark cult.

MLP had a whole episode discussing how a ponies cutie mark isn't the only thing they are destined to do! Season 7 episode 21, the episode was about how despite getting your cutie mark, there are other things you can do and be good at! (Hobbies,jobs,etc.) For example, applebloom, although she is tied to the cutie mark cursaders and the apple family, she also loves to (and is good at) making potions! I think the episode was a nice lesson, teaching people how just because you have a job or skill you're know for it doesn't mean you're stuck doing that one thing forever. Every person is complex! Also helped tackle a problem people often had with the implications of cutie marks. (Def watch the episode) (Also off topic, but i ablsoutly love the glue pins loll)
Yeah, i like a lot that episode. They also have others episodes where they clarify that idea in broad strokes (although that is not the main theme of the episode)
it's very true to real life too. a lot of people have a skill (or potential skill that they never choose to hone) in something, but it's not what they love most so they don't pursue it. for example i have skill in american sign language and was an interpreter for many years, but i chose to leave the field because it wasn't what i enjoyed and wasn't the career i wanted. doesn't erase the skill/talent i had for it. and i still use it when i talk with deaf friends and family. but i choose to pursue other things. cutie marks can be like that. bot sure why so many people seem to not get that and act like they're a life sentence lmao. plus it's just not the same for fantasy characters in a fantasy world, as it would be for us humans in reality.
i feel like its thought about WAAAYYYYY too deeply. helping others isn't some awful terrible burden they cry about daily. the show shows us multiple times that they deeply enjoy and are good at helping others find their life passion. to say they hate it forever for "being tied to their club" is to misunderstand their entire characters and really cutie marks as a whole
Wow, I got lucky and this popped up on my feed right after it was posted! I like that the CMC's marks were a little unexpected and matched each other, since their friendship is so deep and a big part of themselves...but I also wished that they would have had different ones with individual talents, to show that they can still be friends even after they grow up and pursue different interests. I can see the merits of both!
These designs are SO cute, but I would’ve personally kept one similarity between the three to tie them all together, like a shared color scheme or something, so they would still represent their purpose within the show. Still, fantastic work! These are really convincing designs 💕
I think the only thing I was disappointed about in canon was that it'd have been interesting to see how each of the girls react of only one of them got their cutie mark at a time. Like, how would the others feel? Would they be happy? Sad? Angry? How would they deal with that? Etc.
I like their matching cutie marks though, it's a whole nature v nurture thing. Fluttershy is good at sewing but she still has a butterfly cutie mark because her talents don't necessarily define her purpose. The CMC are good at singing, being related to Applejack, and scootering, but they didn't nurture those talents the way they nurtured understanding cutie marks. They're literally called the Cutie Mark Crusaders, it'd be kind of disappointing if they WEREN'T cutie mark masters.
Now I’m headcannoning that if you get a set of three flowers as a cutie mark, you’re destined to be a teacher. Cuz apple bloom feels like she’d become a teacher if she wasn’t tethered to the cutie mark crusaders. She’d teach potions, gardening, home ec, that sort of thing
Did any of you watch the show? They have the same cutiemark (outline) because they decided their calling IS helping other ponies find their special talent, while the inner part of their respective cutiemark shows their unique secondary gift. First they were CMC's for themselves, now they are CMC's for others; and their other talent is a component to help blank-flanks or conflicted ponies with solutions. CMC's is basically a proof that cutiemark isn't only a picture reflecting one's name but actually aligns with someone's true calling.
Choosing colors that compliment them rather than melt into them would've been good, besides sweeties they're hard to make out (for me!) Definitely bg pony vibe tho like they would've gotten those marks maybe in the 4th season of a shorter mlp run. I think this concept has been drawn so many times it's hard to execute it well in a unique way
There's so much existential horror opportunities with the concept of being forced into a talent that's predestined- The Tinker Bell series also had that potential- but they didn't grasp it either 😮💨
I honestly think this is a very intriguing take on this, I've never heard anyone who thought about their marks like this and to be honest I really love this take! The idea of the cutiemark crusaders going through an ark with them each starting to understand their own individuality is an extremely important thing to learn. Cutiemarks for a while were treated kinda like pony puberty and that process alone is what gets you started on understanding yourself and what you're good at. They not only learn and understand the importance of having personalities that dont lean on each other, but they would then learn that individuality shouldn't get in the way of their bonds and dreams! I always love your takes on this stuff 💜💜💜💜
The CMC's marks bothered me so much because they HAVE unique talents !!! It was a whole part of the talent show episode where they realize what they're good at, and then decided to do do what they're not good at. PLUS!!! THERE WAS A WHOLE THING WHERE THEY WENT AND LEARNED THINGS WITH TWILIGHT!!!! AUHHGRHGR
I really don’t understand what the problem is with their current cutie marks: their special talent isn't the CMC club, it’s literally just helping other ponies get and understand theirs. Cutie marks aren’t a destiny or limit what a pony can do, it just highlights a talent they have. The very episode they get even shows them helping Diamond Tiara realize her own cutie mark isn’t what she thought it meant. And heck, Cheerilee back in Season 1 shows that a cutie mark may not always have an obvious meaning. They’re meant to function as a team just like the Mane 6 does, and by doing so their unique perspectives help to balance each other out when assisting others. Yeah their marks are similar, but that doesn’t make them the same, each member of the CMC has a different perspective and brings certain skills and experiences to the table. So I have to respectfully disagree with giving them cutie marks that don’t really represent something that is a core part of their characters. Yeah they do other things but not every aspect of a pony is represented in their cutie mark.

I feel like the marks weren’t the best but I love the symbolism and don’t like how there’s nothing symbolic about the new ones- Apple Bloom had… Apple Blossoms, and Sweetie Bell had… a bell. Sure, there’s some symbolisation behind Scoot’s but… Scootaloo is not a butterfly person, lets be honest.

BUT I feel like now that we’ve seen them all grown up in the final episode of MLP that maybe they’ll open up a school just like Twilight’s or after school classes where they help young fillies who are having trouble finding their cutie marks. However, I really wished they each found their own talents and earned their cutie marks that way. So, here’s what I think their alternate universe cutie marks would look like: *Applebloom*: An apple in a beaker? Since I believe she’s also known for make potions with Zecora. Maybe Sweet Apple Acres is in danger because of a bad harvest or a tree disease. Applebloom crafts a potion that saves the farm, therefore earning her cutie mark. *Sweetie Belle*: I heard she’s great at singing?(correct me if I’m wrong, I’m going off the top of my head here) So she may earn her cutie mark by singing. *Scootaloo*: I actually liked the way Jane drew Scootaloo’s alternate cutie mark. It really shows how grounded and connected to nature Scoot is, considering she can’t properly fly. I wish someone at Hasbro proposed an episode idea where one of the CMC gets their cutie mark before the others, leading her to wonder if she’s still a Cutie Mark Crusader or not. I feel like that would be a good conflict to touch upon and resolve. Edit: Apologies for the yap session 😭 TLDR: Applebloom has an apple in a beaker for a cutie mark, Sweetie Belle has something to do with singing, and I didn’t do anything about Scootaloo. I don't understand why so many people don't like these marks. I was so excited and even cried when they got them. They're so cool. They have the same colors, but match all three ponies, which really unites them. There's also the same shield shape that's visible from afar, which symbolizes their main mission - helping other ponies discover their talents and find their place in life. At the same time, upon closer inspection, their individual symbols become visible inside the shield, which represent their personal talents that they've also discovered. It's so much cooler than just the standard pictures of flowers, butterflies, and bells. They're connected by a common goal, they're connected by the same mark, they're connected by an eternal friendship.

i thought that joke back in i think the first season when the CMC tried to fix a chair and made modern art and "who'd what a hammer for a cutie mark anyway" (i can't really remember but i think it was bloom that said it,) was foreshadowing so when i draw them i always give bloom an hammer mark

I actually kind of agree with you on this that I wasn’t too fond of the marks they got, and I wish they got ones that emphasized their individuality a bit more. I understand why it happened and i didn’t hate the episode itself, but I did think their cutie marks were a little off design wise. For people saying that their marks revolve around their destinies, I get that, but that doesn’t mean they HAVE to. Take the main six, only twilight’s really explicitly is about their destiny. Though the rainboom did connect them earning their marks, each one’s is still unique to themselves. Idk i just feel like more could’ve been done.

Their cutie marks should have been cuter but they did name themselves the “crusaders” so I imagine they like the “tough”look. Them forming the club was to find their special purpose, showing them relentless trying new things every episode of theirs. I though it was brilliant to have their special purpose be to find others and they loved it too. They became actual teachers at the school of magic. And they have their own individual special talents, shown in the show and represented on their flanks! 3:16
You did such an amazing job reimagining their marks. You clearly put a lot of thought and symbolism into them, I wish these were the real designs. The canon “shields” are too busy and not distinct enough. The character should stand out as individuals rather than being clumped together and defined by what’s essentially the same mark. Yes, they can all share the passion/purpose of helping others, but still be their own individuals with their own traits/personalities. Despite not keeping up with MLP since around season 4, show designs were still so incredibly disappointing for something so personal/unique and was a big part of these characters narratives. I know it’s just a kids TV show, but like be for real. Again, great work! Absolutely adore these designs 💕
I like the original marks because it's much cooler to have a unifying mark that speaks of their common goal and eternal friendship than just getting an apple, a note, and a wing. And yes, they received their mark not as a sign of a crossaiders club for finding their mark, but as a group helping other ponies find their marks, which is their main mission now. And also, besides that, they also have this apple, note and wing, so it's like 2 marks in 1.

Scootaloo is SEEN as rainbow dash’s little sister, She however is NOT related to her, it is said that scootaloo is actually Flash sentry’s sister alongside a few others and she however does also see rainbow dash as her sister but unfortunately they are not related. (And if you already know that’s AMAZING! At least Y’know you’re facts)
That defeats the whole point that was made with them getting the same cutie marks though? Their cutie marks represent their passion to help others and the bond of their friendship
Omg your redesigns are so cute! As someone who watched mlp religiously as a kid, their cutie marks just seemed like wasted potential. It would have been so cool to have like a 3 episode special about each of them earning their cutie mark in a different way. Tbh I think they made their cutie marks similar for marketing reasons, but i agree frr.
While I do like what the CMC’s marks look like canon-wise, the ones you came up with for them are good alternatives for them; like what they could have turned out to be.

I feel like a lot of people are misunderstanding the point of the video, the cutie marks the crusaders got were clearly shoed in. Later on in the seasons and not anything genuinely related to their individuality. She didn't say she disliked the episode they were introduced in. Bu no one else in the show has cutie marks all EXACTLY the same colour and shape like that and it just ended up looking more like a stamp then a mark on their body especially because the colours clash with their fur. The episode they got it in were great, but the emblems missed the mark for some of us. Especially those artistically inclined lol.
I would’ve gone with the apple with the blossom flowers but for sweetie belle, I would’ve done something like a group of sleigh bells/jingle bells with the bow tying the bells together at the top, but 2x more music notes like 4 instead of two
These are cute! As a g3 mlp enjoyer, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo deserved justice. However, I do love the idea of them getting their cutie marks together and their cutie marks tying together. The version I did looks more similar to your Scootaloo cutie design with the colorful streak. It ties in all their hair colors in a way that makes their color palettes look cohesive but not clashy, and has their each individual interests. Sweetie Belle has a music note, Scootaloo has a tire, and Apple Bloom has an apple blossom flower. I love seeing everyone's different interpretations of the CMC's cutie marks, it makes me regret what we'd actually gotten.
The Cutie mark Crusaders shield like cutie marks are ok, which I used them for my artwork as Musketeers shields, but with your design on their cutie marks look way better, it suites them.
Well, two of the Crusaders were kid sisters to members of the Mane Six. Scootaloo was more like the spiritual sister to Rainbow Dash. No spoiler, but Scoots' familial relations were finally clarified in Season 9.
I'm gonna say - despite all the flaws, the thing i like about the canon cutie marks is their implication for the lore, yes i'm that kind of a fan. See, in it's second half, MLP explored the ideas of how far magic of friendship has, and possibly will, develop. With every next season presenting something thought to be impossible before, and then the final arc of the comic presenting the idea of multiple trees of harmony for different virtues, MLP became this kind of magic-of-friendship Gurren Lagann. So, even if matching cutie marks were ugly or a lazy cop-out, they at least showed us, how ambitious the writers are about their world-building.
i think it would be cute if they still got their cutie marks at the same time but they were all unique like this. ive always been under the impression that cutie marks are up for interpretation, and they just happen when the time is right. Bloom's cutie mark could represent helping ponies "bloom" by finding their purpose in life, Scootaloo's could represent change and self acceptance for herself and others, and Sweetie Belle's could be a representation of beauty, specifically finding beauty in your cutie mark. maybe im looking too deep into it, but i think it makes sense while also tying into the other talents they're shown to have
I like it. This makes more sense than the canon ones they have. On the other hoof, the canon CM's tie the three of them together. Perhaps the Tree of Harmony has distant plans which require the three to act in concert.
When I found out the cute markers Crusaders got their cute mark, I thought the apple bloom's one were about magic because she used to practice with zecora and twilight, also twi said that unicorns don't necessarily are magicians, but they never brought that again, given that all the magicians in the show are a unicorn in general
my only comment is that sweetie belle's cutie marker needs to have some kind of gem element to it because related ponies have simular cutie marks. like shining armor and twilight sparkle both having glittery bits.

And yes they COULD be therapists/teachers and they do become that but I would think Sweetie Belle would grow confident enough to actually sing for a crowd, Applebloom would help her family out, maybe travel between all Apple family farms, and Scootaloo was destined for speed. Thank you for breathing life into their destiny stamps. I really love how you made Scootaloo's.
The ones you gave them are cute 😊 But it also makes them look a bit generic... I remember the show writers saying how we should know EXACTLY what a pony stands for and their characteristics based off on one look - Your cutie marks tells me: Sweetie Belle likes bells/maybe has a lot of wisdom for being young Applebloom loves apples Scootalo loves nature and is very carefree But the original cutie marks tell me, "They're a team forever, as they found what gives each of them a purpose (protecting, helping, etc.) And the little symbols in their shield cutie marks are just so cool -off topic but they did Sweetie Belle dirty in her adult body, haha-

These are very asthetically pleasing, but they ultimately are just name-based marks, other than Scootaloo's being based off your own biases about the character. The three's marks really should be themed if their talent is shared in some way. On Apple Bloom, I think you're missing that she is good at dealing with physical buildings, and is very masculine (not a delicate flower, but aggressive and crass), so I think her mark would show blooms of an apple tree tied together into an intricate weave, representing her organizational skills as well as ability to put things together physically (and not looking delicate). Scootaloo would make the most sense with her CM a horizontal version of Dash's rather-vertical in some way, with perhaps sparks trailed by curved and looping parallel streaks, signifying fantastic stunts and some cleverness. Sweetie Belle is the hardest, and I think ultimately she would have a mark showing wedding bells, and be the trio's premiere matchmaker/love guru (the CMC did more than once try to pair a pony up).

From your own perspective it sounds sad, but in their eyes it’s the most amazing thing ever. A cutie mark is more than a talent. It’s part of someone’s identity. And the cutie mark shows that with them loving their best friends, loving their secondary hobbies too in the meanwhile. It’s not nightmarish in their eyes. It’s kinda the club *logo, but it represents the friendship
I wasn't sure about the butterfly for Scootaloo but it's really grown on me. Theoretically, the fact it's a butterfly could also call back to Scootaloo's wings being smaller than other pegasi as well. Love Sweetie Belle's. I agree, the music notes are a bit too much. The bell is indicative enough of her musical talent. I think it also fits really well cuz Sweetie Belle, despite being so small, has a *big* singing voice and bells can also be small but very loud lol. At first I was a little skeptical of the lack of apple for Apple Bloom's cutie mark, but after a quick google search I instantly LOVED the idea of just the 3 white blossoms: apple blossoms and pear blossoms can BOTH be white and look very similar! It's a really neat connection to both the Apple and Pear families and a good call back to their mother, who they thought had an apple butter cutie mark but it was actually *pear butter* because the 2 can look interchangeable. My one critique is that, I do think they should all 3 have a call back to each other due to how important being the CMC was to them as friends and in how they got their cutie marks in the show. Maybe just use the CMC color schemes somehow? Like the "S" you have connected to Scootaloo's butterfly, the ribbon on Sweetie Belle's bell, and maybe a thicker outline containing the colors for the 3 blossoms? Idk about the last one, but a connection, even if a bit small, to their CMC days I think could add a bit to the design imo.
I always wanted them to have different marks because They were such close friends while blank flanks. I wanted to see what would happen when one got their mark and the others didn’t. What would happen when there was just one of them left? What would happen when they all got their marks and were doing other things? How would they handle going from doing *everything* together, to maybe not doing anything? I always felt like them getting the same cutie mark at the same time was just. Hollow? It closed the door on the real life scenarios where childhood friendship is tested because you end up pursuing different things. Discussing these situations with kids I thought would be so important. It just always felt like wasted potential to me
I love the theory that they have TWO cutie marks, and that their "shield" one just covers up their true one, overlaying even their true colors. Also, come ooon, Hasbro, Apple Bloom was tought ALCHEMY by Zecora, and she was good at it, why not make her mark a potion or something?
When I was a kid, my sister and I used to play ponies. She had apple bloom, scootaloo, and sweetie bell, and I had the mane six. We would play games where I was apple jack, rarity, and/or rainbow dash and she’d be one or more crusaders. We played games where the crusaders would get their cutie marks, and we’d look through sticker books to find just the right one for whichever game we were playing.
I think you keep a little link between the marks, like the mane six who are three elements in their marks (three butterfly, apple, diamond, balloon, three color in the lightning). But it's good too
as someone who watched mlp g4 since they were 7 years old, i love your version better! it makes much more sense than the official design they ended up doing and it would’ve been so much nicer if they had their own cutie marks rather than having the ones that represents literally the reason why the crusaders was even a thing in the first place. don’t get me wrong, it was cool that they have a passion for helping others find their cutie marks, but ughhhhhhh they should be their own people!!! like there are so many bff ponies that don’t have the same or similar cutie marks and they are inseparable!!! that should be them!!!
Honestly i always thought of it as they have two marks, just layered on one another The shield is meant to be for the CMC, connecting them together(especially with the stripes reprisentinf each one. The red for Applebloom, the middle for Sweetie Bell, and the purple for Scoots) by their talent of helping others find their cutie marks or understand their true meaning. And then the star and music note for Sweetie's solo talent in singing and music The Apple for Applebloom because all apple family members have apple marks(Babs had scissors where the handle made an apple) And the wing for Scoots' wings. Though bwing unable to ever fly, she uses them to speed around on her scooter. They're too small for her to fly, but strong enough to propel her quickly

I really love the designs and I also understand the original but I think where the original messed up was making the shield colored in. Like imagine an apple themed cutie mark for Apple Bloom with a shield outline. If they all had the shield outline, they'd still be tied to each other but it wouldn't be the focal point as much 😅
I just had an idea for their episode of them getting their cutie marks! Maybe they go camping with their sisters, and do to whatever event caused by them, they lose their camping stuff, the group splits into 3, and they each go out to get their stuff back. Scootloo and applebloom have to get the important things, but that makes sweetiebelle feel outshined, and useless.. stooloo follows everything rainbow dash does, till rainbow bash needs her help, so she figures out to be her own person. Apple bloom and apple jack fight over who's in charge, apple bloom's are pushed down, not being aj doesn't care, but because she cares. Aj then needs to follow apple bloom from danger. Finally sweetiebelle continues to feel out shined by rarity, and then sweetiebelle saves rarity from whatever, by doing her own thing. Boom! They all get their cutie marks at the exact same time away from each other. And when they comes back they celebrate that fact they got their cutie marks. I feel like this would work best as 3 episode thing, so that every story line gets fleshed out into it's own thing.
In my au, sweetie belle became hyper fixated on dragons after an episode where rarity is too busy to hunt gems so she tells her sister and spike to do it. Spike tells her about dragons and why they eat gems and begins her "research project". Soon after she became a "all dragon expert" (like a white woman adapting a completely different culture) she now has a dragon holding a gem cutiemark to symbolize how she became hyper focused in the first place lol.
Fun video! The one thing I would have liked to keep is some unifying element between them all. The mane 6 for example all have the little cluster of 3 things while Twilight has a 6 pointed star with 5 smaller stars, representing her friends and their special connection. Even though they're all individual ponies who exist separately from one another, their connection is still really important and reflected in their marks. Would have loved to see that in the crusaders. Still very cute designs though. I'm especially fond of Scootaloo's.

while i agree their canon cutie marks are too similar AND too busy, i do kinda wish the marks you made gave them something in common, like one color in all their palettes or a repeating element. theyre not destined to be besties forever, but they did earn their cutie marks together, and i feel like that would impact their marks.
that being said, your designs feel more consistent to canon and are generally more appealing, so well done!

@Bee_814 for the style of the show, yes, i feel like the CMC's marks are too busy. cutie marks are meant to be very simple, limited to 2 or 3 colors for the majority of characters with simple shapes to be easy to read at a distance. if you took, for example, sweetie belle's cutie mark and shrunk it to a quarter of its size, would you still see the purple outline? would the star or music note be visible? i highly doubt it. i would just see the silhouette of the shield and indistinguishable blobs of color within it. i doubt the indents on the shield even read at all from a distance.
Okay okay the entire POINT of cutie marks is not to be something you’re “damned” to, it represents something you’ll always love and feel happy doing. Applebloom’s has an apple, meaning she’ll always have her family to rely on, Sweetiebell has a music note because she loves to sing, and Scootaloo has a wing and a lightning bolt to show her dedication to speed and learning to fly. Most ponies have cutie marks that are specifically talents simply because that talent is what they love to do. You can have a cutie mark that isn’t a talent! Like the Apple family!
However, it can also represent their PURPOSE, like nurse Red Heart. She finds purpose and passion in helping ponies and her cutie mark reflects that. The crusaders are the same, all having similar cutie marks because they found their purpose TOGETHER as a club and as friends. Cutie marks are versatile, and they can be anything. I think their marks represent who they are really well 🫶🫶

Also Applebloom has the heart because (I think) she's the "heart and soul" ❤ of the group and the one that brought them together in the first place, and finds purpose doing things with friends (which is also why she was in that mood during the season 6 ep On Your Marks).

And how would it correspond to the main talent and mark of being a Crusader? 🤔 (Btw the shield is a coat of arms, a neat little reference to the Crusaders of old, but the CMC are "Crusaders" for cutie marks.)

I feel cutie marks are up to interpretation. Like how Diamond Tiara has a Tiara and in her episode she tells us she never knew what it was for untill she looked at it in a different light, or Trouble Shoes who thought his talent was bad luck until the cmc told him that it wasn't and he became a rodeo clown. Although I don't personally have anything against the cmc I do think that they should have done WAY more with AppleBloom's apprenticeship with Zecora, it was really fun to see her whipping up potions with Zecora especially since she was the only one who believed in Zecora from the beginning.
I really liked the potion cutiemark Applebloom got in her Luna dream episode. It made sense with the skills they showed her having in previous episodes while keeping the apple motif
It was such a lovely headcanon I heard years ago that a solid rewrite of Applebloom as an adult would have her expand the apple family business by her potion usage. Really expand on the hidden idea of Earth Pony magic being druidic in nature.
I recently saw a redesign where they made AppleBlooms cutiemark a poison apple from Snow White. I thought it was a really clever way to represent her love of alchemy and potion making while keeping her cutiemark an apple. It’s my favorite redesign I’ve seen, I can’t remember the artists @ though

I think a lotta people missed your point. The OG marks are just not show accurate or appealing. The concept isn't that bad, it's the execution. The shield and colors look horrendous. They just do. There's nothing wrong with them wanting to help people, just make their marks show individuality because if they ever split off as friends, they deserve to have a mark that isn't fully connected to another pony.

Exactly, that was the point of the redesign. And, tbh, I like this interpretation of their cutie marks better. I never liked the CMC cutie marks, because they looked too similar to each other. I get their calling can be to help other ponies find their cutie marks, but I think cutie marks should represent the pony themselves and not necessarily their destiny or calling. It would be more impacting if cutie marks represented individually and character. But, that's just me and not really what the show went for. Idk, cutie marks as a concept in the show always confused me, lol! First, it is a talent thing, and next it's a destiny thing. Never liked the talent stuff either...

Well, for some ponies, their cutie marks are VERY strongly impacted by their connections to others. Some examples are the Flim Flam brothers, and the entirety of the Apple family. Flim and Flam's marks are literally two portions of an unevenly cut apple. They belong together, and when separated, the twins are incomplete. And while the Apple family does have a dedication to Apple farming, we also know that's not all their Apple themed cutie marks are about, since Applejack got her cutie mark from realizing she belongs with her Family, not from realizing how much she likes farming and farm life or growing Apples. So saying that ponies' cutie marks should be entirely unique or individualistic i think does a lot of ponies a disservice. Varied, certainly, but that's where details like coloration and symbols inside the larger design come into play. And while the Crusaders could've changed the colors between marks, they did have different shapes inside the larger shields to cover their differences.
@kimberlyramin You essentially said what I said, though I disagree that the CMC marks show individuality. The apple CMs you mentioned are perfect examples. Two halves of an apple, but they're still also apple farmers and apples aren't inherently tying two ponies together. Shields in really awful colors, do. No one else has a mark even slightly similar. Meaning the three are basically forced to be a trio no matter what. And realistically, no one should ever have a destiny of "You must be friends with these people forever, you are never an individual" even if they love being friends and stay friends, that's a pretty sucky fate because it kinda removes that choice and autonomy. If they just didn't have the shields, they could have a similar coloring or something else in common without all having the exact same shield symbol. The shield and colors imo are unnecessary and make the marks look gaudy. They could've done it so much better and as many artists have proven, it wasn't hard to do this. This person might not have chosen to make their marks interwoven but many other artists have and I don't understand why everyone is hating when that's a perfectly valid way of viewing things. (Not saying you're hating specifically, comment section in general)

I’ve often thought abt redesigning the cmcs marks too and something I thought of for Applebloom’s mark would be something potion/magic themed due to how she acted as somewhat of an apprentice to Zecora earlier on in the series! MLP had a whole episode discussing how a ponies cutie mark isn't the only thing they are destined to do! Season 7 episode 21, the episode was about how despite getting your cutie mark, there are other things you can do and be good at! (Hobbies,jobs,etc.) For example, applebloom, although she is tied to the cutie mark cursaders and the apple family, she also loves to (and is good at) making potions! I think the episode was a nice lesson, teaching people how just because you have a job or skill you're know for it doesn't mean you're stuck doing that one thing forever. Every person is complex! Also helped tackle a problem people often had with the implications of cutie marks. (Def watch the episode) (Also off topic, but i ablsoutly love the glue pins loll)
Yeah, i like a lot that episode. They also have others episodes where they clarify that idea in broad strokes (although that is not the main theme of the episode)
it's very true to real life too. a lot of people have a skill (or potential skill that they never choose to hone) in something, but it's not what they love most so they don't pursue it. for example i have skill in american sign language and was an interpreter for many years, but i chose to leave the field because it wasn't what i enjoyed and wasn't the career i wanted. doesn't erase the skill/talent i had for it. and i still use it when i talk with deaf friends and family. but i choose to pursue other things. cutie marks can be like that. bot sure why so many people seem to not get that and act like they're a life sentence lmao. plus it's just not the same for fantasy characters in a fantasy world, as it would be for us humans in reality.
i feel like its thought about WAAAYYYYY too deeply. helping others isn't some awful terrible burden they cry about daily. the show shows us multiple times that they deeply enjoy and are good at helping others find their life passion. to say they hate it forever for "being tied to their club" is to misunderstand their entire characters and really cutie marks as a whole

These designs are SO cute, but I would’ve personally kept one similarity between the three to tie them all together, like a shared color scheme or something, so they would still represent their purpose within the show. Still, fantastic work! These are really convincing designs 💕
I think the only thing I was disappointed about in canon was that it'd have been interesting to see how each of the girls react of only one of them got their cutie mark at a time. Like, how would the others feel? Would they be happy? Sad? Angry? How would they deal with that? Etc.
Well when Apple Bloom got a fake cutie mark in cutie pox, the others seemed happy for her.
I like their matching cutie marks though, it's a whole nature v nurture thing. Fluttershy is good at sewing but she still has a butterfly cutie mark because her talents don't necessarily define her purpose. The CMC are good at singing, being related to Applejack, and scootering, but they didn't nurture those talents the way they nurtured understanding cutie marks. They're literally called the Cutie Mark Crusaders, it'd be kind of disappointing if they WEREN'T cutie mark masters.

Now I’m headcannoning that if you get a set of three flowers as a cutie mark, you’re destined to be a teacher. Cuz apple bloom feels like she’d become a teacher if she wasn’t tethered to the cutie mark crusaders. She’d teach potions, gardening, home ec, that sort of thing
Did any of you watch the show? They have the same cutiemark (outline) because they decided their calling IS helping other ponies find their special talent, while the inner part of their respective cutiemark shows their unique secondary gift. First they were CMC's for themselves, now they are CMC's for others; and their other talent is a component to help blank-flanks or conflicted ponies with solutions. CMC's is basically a proof that cutiemark isn't only a picture reflecting one's name but actually aligns with someone's true calling.
Choosing colors that compliment them rather than melt into them would've been good, besides sweeties they're hard to make out (for me!) Definitely bg pony vibe tho like they would've gotten those marks maybe in the 4th season of a shorter mlp run. I think this concept has been drawn so many times it's hard to execute it well in a unique way
There's so much existential horror opportunities with the concept of being forced into a talent that's predestined- The Tinker Bell series also had that potential- but they didn't grasp it either 😮💨

I honestly think this is a very intriguing take on this, I've never heard anyone who thought about their marks like this and to be honest I really love this take! The idea of the cutiemark crusaders going through an ark with them each starting to understand their own individuality is an extremely important thing to learn. Cutiemarks for a while were treated kinda like pony puberty and that process alone is what gets you started on understanding yourself and what you're good at.
They not only learn and understand the importance of having personalities that dont lean on each other, but they would then learn that individuality shouldn't get in the way of their bonds and dreams! I always love your takes on this stuff 💜💜💜💜
The CMC's marks bothered me so much because they HAVE unique talents !!! It was a whole part of the talent show episode where they realize what they're good at, and then decided to do do what they're not good at. PLUS!!! THERE WAS A WHOLE THING WHERE THEY WENT AND LEARNED THINGS WITH TWILIGHT!!!! AUHHGRHGR

I really don’t understand what the problem is with their current cutie marks: their special talent isn't the CMC club, it’s literally just helping other ponies get and understand theirs. Cutie marks aren’t a destiny or limit what a pony can do, it just highlights a talent they have. The very episode they get even shows them helping Diamond Tiara realize her own cutie mark isn’t what she thought it meant. And heck, Cheerilee back in Season 1 shows that a cutie mark may not always have an obvious meaning.
They’re meant to function as a team just like the Mane 6 does, and by doing so their unique perspectives help to balance each other out when assisting others. Yeah their marks are similar, but that doesn’t make them the same, each member of the CMC has a different perspective and brings certain skills and experiences to the table.
So I have to respectfully disagree with giving them cutie marks that don’t really represent something that is a core part of their characters. Yeah they do other things but not every aspect of a pony is represented in their cutie mark.

I feel like the marks weren’t the best but I love the symbolism and don’t like how there’s nothing symbolic about the new ones- Apple Bloom had… Apple Blossoms, and Sweetie Bell had… a bell. Sure, there’s some symbolisation behind Scoot’s but… Scootaloo is not a butterfly person, lets be honest.
Okay, so I can understand the disappointment when the CMC ended up not having individual/unique cutie marks and instead a badge pasted onto their flanks with ambiguous symbols on them. BUT I feel like now that we’ve seen them all grown up in the final episode of MLP that maybe they’ll open up a school just like Twilight’s or after school classes where they help young fillies who are having trouble finding their cutie marks.
However, I really wished they each found their own talents and earned their cutie marks that way. So, here’s what I think their alternate universe cutie marks would look like:
*Applebloom*: An apple in a beaker? Since I believe she’s also known for make potions with Zecora. Maybe Sweet Apple Acres is in danger because of a bad harvest or a tree disease. Applebloom crafts a potion that saves the farm, therefore earning her cutie mark.
*Sweetie Belle*: I heard she’s great at singing?(correct me if I’m wrong, I’m going off the top of my head here) So she may earn her cutie mark by singing.
*Scootaloo*: I actually liked the way Jane drew Scootaloo’s alternate cutie mark. It really shows how grounded and connected to nature Scoot is, considering she can’t properly fly.
I wish someone at Hasbro proposed an episode idea where one of the CMC gets their cutie mark before the others, leading her to wonder if she’s still a Cutie Mark Crusader or not. I feel like that would be a good conflict to touch upon and resolve.

I don't understand why so many people don't like these marks. I was so excited and even cried when they got them. They're so cool. They have the same colors, but match all three ponies, which really unites them. There's also the same shield shape that's visible from afar, which symbolizes their main mission - helping other ponies discover their talents and find their place in life. At the same time, upon closer inspection, their individual symbols become visible inside the shield, which represent their personal talents that they've also discovered. It's so much cooler than just the standard pictures of flowers, butterflies, and bells. They're connected by a common goal, they're connected by the same mark, they're connected by an eternal friendship.

i thought that joke back in i think the first season when the CMC tried to fix a chair and made modern art and "who'd what a hammer for a cutie mark anyway" (i can't really remember but i think it was bloom that said it,) was foreshadowing so when i draw them i always give bloom an hammer mark

For people saying that their marks revolve around their destinies, I get that, but that doesn’t mean they HAVE to. Take the main six, only twilight’s really explicitly is about their destiny. Though the rainboom did connect them earning their marks, each one’s is still unique to themselves. Idk i just feel like more could’ve been done.

Them forming the club was to find their special purpose, showing them relentless trying new things every episode of theirs. I though it was brilliant to have their special purpose be to find others and they loved it too. They became actual teachers at the school of magic. The canon “shields” are too busy and not distinct enough. The character should stand out as individuals rather than being clumped together and defined by what’s essentially the same mark. Yes, they can all share the passion/purpose of helping others, but still be their own individuals with their own traits/personalities.
Despite not keeping up with MLP since around season 4, show designs were still so incredibly disappointing for something so personal/unique and was a big part of these characters narratives. I know it’s just a kids TV show, but like be for real.

Okay correction. Scootaloo is SEEN as rainbow dash’s little sister, She however is NOT related to her, it is said that scootaloo is actually Flash sentry’s sister alongside a few others and she however does also see rainbow dash as her sister but unfortunately they are not related.

Omg your redesigns are so cute! As someone who watched mlp religiously as a kid, their cutie marks just seemed like wasted potential. It would have been so cool to have like a 3 episode special about each of them earning their cutie mark in a different way. Tbh I think they made their cutie marks similar for marketing reasons, but i agree frr.
While I do like what the CMC’s marks look like canon-wise, the ones you came up with for them are good alternatives for them; like what they could have turned out to be.
I wish the color palettes changed for each because the one we got works with Scootaloo and maybe Apple Bloom but looks so out of place on Sweetie Belle
I feel like a lot of people are misunderstanding the point of the video, the cutie marks the crusaders got were clearly shoed in. Later on in the seasons and not anything genuinely related to their individuality. She didn't say she disliked the episode they were introduced in. Bu no one else in the show has cutie marks all EXACTLY the same colour and shape like that and it just ended up looking more like a stamp then a mark on their body especially because the colours clash with their fur. The episode they got it in were great, but the emblems missed the mark for some of us. Especially those artistically inclined lol.
I respectfully disagree I loved that they got similar marks it works for them in my opinion but hey that's okay if you don't agree with me 😊

I would’ve gone with the apple with the blossom flowers but for sweetie belle, I would’ve done something like a group of sleigh bells/jingle bells with the bow tying the bells together at the top, but 2x more music notes like 4 instead of two
These are cute! As a g3 mlp enjoyer, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo deserved justice.
However, I do love the idea of them getting their cutie marks together and their cutie marks tying together. The version I did looks more similar to your Scootaloo cutie design with the colorful streak. It ties in all their hair colors in a way that makes their color palettes look cohesive but not clashy, and has their each individual interests. Sweetie Belle has a music note, Scootaloo has a tire, and Apple Bloom has an apple blossom flower.
I love seeing everyone's different interpretations of the CMC's cutie marks, it makes me regret what we'd actually gotten.
The Cutie mark Crusaders shield like cutie marks are ok, which I used them for my artwork as Musketeers shields, but with your design on their cutie marks look way better, it suites them.

Well, two of the Crusaders were kid sisters to members of the Mane Six. Scootaloo was more like the spiritual sister to Rainbow Dash. No spoiler, but Scoots' familial relations were finally clarified in Season 9.
I'm gonna say - despite all the flaws, the thing i like about the canon cutie marks is their implication for the lore, yes i'm that kind of a fan.
See, in it's second half, MLP explored the ideas of how far magic of friendship has, and possibly will, develop. With every next season presenting something thought to be impossible before, and then the final arc of the comic presenting the idea of multiple trees of harmony for different virtues, MLP became this kind of magic-of-friendship Gurren Lagann.
So, even if matching cutie marks were ugly or a lazy cop-out, they at least showed us, how ambitious the writers are about their world-building.

i think it would be cute if they still got their cutie marks at the same time but they were all unique like this. ive always been under the impression that cutie marks are up for interpretation, and they just happen when the time is right. Bloom's cutie mark could represent helping ponies "bloom" by finding their purpose in life, Scootaloo's could represent change and self acceptance for herself and others, and Sweetie Belle's could be a representation of beauty, specifically finding beauty in your cutie mark. maybe im looking too deep into it, but i think it makes sense while also tying into the other talents they're shown to have
I like it. This makes more sense than the canon ones they have.
On the other hoof, the canon CM's tie the three of them together. Perhaps the Tree of Harmony has distant plans which require the three to act in concert.

When I found out the cute markers Crusaders got their cute mark, I thought the apple bloom's one were about magic because she used to practice with zecora and twilight, also twi said that unicorns don't necessarily are magicians, but they never brought that again, given that all the magicians in the show are a unicorn in general

my only comment is that sweetie belle's cutie marker needs to have some kind of gem element to it because related ponies have simular cutie marks. like shining armor and twilight sparkle both having glittery bits.
I always thought that Applebloom was going to have a crafting cutiemark, Sweetie Bell was going to have a singing cutiemark, and Scootaloo having an sports cutiemark
Their cutie marks in the show made they seem like Cutie Mark therapists. And yes they COULD be therapists/teachers and they do become that but I would think Sweetie Belle would grow confident enough to actually sing for a crowd, Applebloom would help her family out, maybe travel between all Apple family farms, and Scootaloo was destined for speed. Thank you for breathing life into their destiny stamps. I really love how you made Scootaloo's.
The ones you gave them are cute 😊 But it also makes them look a bit generic... I remember the show writers saying how we should know EXACTLY what a pony stands for and their characteristics based off on one look - Your cutie marks tells me:
Sweetie Belle likes bells/maybe has a lot of wisdom for being young
Applebloom loves apples
Scootalo loves nature and is very carefree
But the original cutie marks tell me, "They're a team forever, as they found what gives each of them a purpose (protecting, helping, etc.)
And the little symbols in their shield cutie marks are just so cool

I realize something else weird about the canon marks- they're very "condensed". So they look even more crowded than they could be.
These are very asthetically pleasing, but they ultimately are just name-based marks, other than Scootaloo's being based off your own biases about the character. The three's marks really should be themed if their talent is shared in some way. On Apple Bloom, I think you're missing that she is good at dealing with physical buildings, and is very masculine (not a delicate flower, but aggressive and crass), so I think her mark would show blooms of an apple tree tied together into an intricate weave, representing her organizational skills as well as ability to put things together physically (and not looking delicate). Scootaloo would make the most sense with her CM a horizontal version of Dash's rather-vertical in some way, with perhaps sparks trailed by curved and looping parallel streaks, signifying fantastic stunts and some cleverness. Sweetie Belle is the hardest, and I think ultimately she would have a mark showing wedding bells, and be the trio's premiere matchmaker/love guru (the CMC did more than once try to pair a pony up).
6:57 I feel like this explanation makes sense, but I always thought of her name, Apple Bloom, as in like, an apple blossom. Like, the flower that then turns into the fruit, y'know? But I mean, the reason you gave makes sense too.

i think in show, it would've been fun if they got their own individual talents, but still chose to help others with their cutie marks, especially if they got them at different times, i think it could've had some great episode potential

From your own perspective it sounds sad, but in their eyes it’s the most amazing thing ever. A cutie mark is more than a talent. It’s part of someone’s identity. And the cutie mark shows that with them loving their best friends, loving their secondary hobbies too in the meanwhile. It’s not nightmarish in their eyes. It’s kinda the club *logo, but it represents the friendship
I wasn't sure about the butterfly for Scootaloo but it's really grown on me. Theoretically, the fact it's a butterfly could also call back to Scootaloo's wings being smaller than other pegasi as well.
Love Sweetie Belle's. I agree, the music notes are a bit too much. The bell is indicative enough of her musical talent. I think it also fits really well cuz Sweetie Belle, despite being so small, has a *big* singing voice and bells can also be small but very loud lol.
At first I was a little skeptical of the lack of apple for Apple Bloom's cutie mark, but after a quick google search I instantly LOVED the idea of just the 3 white blossoms: apple blossoms and pear blossoms can BOTH be white and look very similar! It's a really neat connection to both the Apple and Pear families and a good call back to their mother, who they thought had an apple butter cutie mark but it was actually *pear butter* because the 2 can look interchangeable.
My one critique is that, I do think they should all 3 have a call back to each other due to how important being the CMC was to them as friends and in how they got their cutie marks in the show. Maybe just use the CMC color schemes somehow? Like the "S" you have connected to Scootaloo's butterfly, the ribbon on Sweetie Belle's bell, and maybe a thicker outline containing the colors for the 3 blossoms? Idk about the last one, but a connection, even if a bit small, to their CMC days I think could add a bit to the design imo.
I always wanted them to have different marks because They were such close friends while blank flanks. I wanted to see what would happen when one got their mark and the others didn’t. What would happen when there was just one of them left? What would happen when they all got their marks and were doing other things? How would they handle going from doing *everything* together, to maybe not doing anything? I always felt like them getting the same cutie mark at the same time was just. Hollow? It closed the door on the real life scenarios where childhood friendship is tested because you end up pursuing different things. Discussing these situations with kids I thought would be so important.

When I was a kid, my sister and I used to play ponies. She had apple bloom, scootaloo, and sweetie bell, and I had the mane six. We would play games where I was apple jack, rarity, and/or rainbow dash and she’d be one or more crusaders. We played games where the crusaders would get their cutie marks, and we’d look through sticker books to find just the right one for whichever game we were playing.
I will die on the potionmaster applebloom hill, we should've gotten more of her as Zecora's apprentice

I think you keep a little link between the marks, like the mane six who are three elements in their marks (three butterfly, apple, diamond, balloon, three color in the lightning). But it's good too
as someone who watched mlp g4 since they were 7 years old, i love your version better! it makes much more sense than the official design they ended up doing and it would’ve been so much nicer if they had their own cutie marks rather than having the ones that represents literally the reason why the crusaders was even a thing in the first place. don’t get me wrong, it was cool that they have a passion for helping others find their cutie marks, but ughhhhhhh they should be their own people!!! like there are so many bff ponies that don’t have the same or similar cutie marks and they are inseparable!!! that should be them!!!

The shield is meant to be for the CMC, connecting them together(especially with the stripes reprisentinf each one. The red for Applebloom, the middle for Sweetie Bell, and the purple for Scoots) by their talent of helping others find their cutie marks or understand their true meaning.
And then the star and music note for Sweetie's solo talent in singing and music
The Apple for Applebloom because all apple family members have apple marks(Babs had scissors where the handle made an apple)
And the wing for Scoots' wings. Though bwing unable to ever fly, she uses them to speed around on her scooter. They're too small for her to fly, but strong enough to propel her quickly

Like imagine an apple themed cutie mark for Apple Bloom with a shield outline. If they all had the shield outline, they'd still be tied to each other but it wouldn't be the focal point as much 😅

I just had an idea for their episode of them getting their cutie marks! Maybe they go camping with their sisters, and do to whatever event caused by them, they lose their camping stuff, the group splits into 3, and they each go out to get their stuff back. Scootloo and applebloom have to get the important things, but that makes sweetiebelle feel outshined, and useless.. stooloo follows everything rainbow dash does, till rainbow bash needs her help, so she figures out to be her own person. Apple bloom and apple jack fight over who's in charge, apple bloom's are pushed down, not being aj doesn't care, but because she cares. Aj then needs to follow apple bloom from danger. Finally sweetiebelle continues to feel out shined by rarity, and then sweetiebelle saves rarity from whatever, by doing her own thing. Boom! They all get their cutie marks at the exact same time away from each other. And when they comes back they celebrate that fact they got their cutie marks. I feel like this would work best as 3 episode thing, so that every story line gets fleshed out into it's own thing.
In my au, sweetie belle became hyper fixated on dragons after an episode where rarity is too busy to hunt gems so she tells her sister and spike to do it. Spike tells her about dragons and why they eat gems and begins her "research project". Soon after she became a "all dragon expert" (like a white woman adapting a completely different culture) she now has a dragon holding a gem cutiemark to symbolize how she became hyper focused in the first place lol.

Fun video! The one thing I would have liked to keep is some unifying element between them all. The mane 6 for example all have the little cluster of 3 things while Twilight has a 6 pointed star with 5 smaller stars, representing her friends and their special connection.
Even though they're all individual ponies who exist separately from one another, their connection is still really important and reflected in their marks. Would have loved to see that in the crusaders. Still very cute designs though. I'm especially fond of Scootaloo's.
