    I have cut the wood and heated my home with wood for 46 years and really appreciate Slims very thorough and thoughtful pellet stove installation, but not giving it a thought for my small camper. My wife would probably leave me. The scene of Slim barreling through the snow and his camper doing a power slide made me gasp. This is why I have been coming here for over three years now. Way to go O Guru.

For a while now, I have I was thinking about Slim's great style of narration and finally it dawned on me who else from the past had a very similar, calm demeanor and easygoing style when on camera. Great video. I keep a spare set of enough clothes in my tow vehicle in case the various possible sources of a fire in my rig start one at 2:00 a.m. Cold and exposure are a more serious threat to people than excess warming. I keep my important docs/wallet/etc in a fire bag to grab on the way out.

    Hey Slim! I've been "SP deprived' for 5 months now as my husband and I have been staying in our off grid, remote northern cabin (think Yukon) since the end of September and don't have internet there, and spotty cell service. I'm going to enjoy catching up. So much of what we have learned in the last 20 years of cabin life has rolled over into our RV life. I am so tempted to install a Cubic Mini Woodstove in my little motorhome this spring, and sure appreciate the info in your woodstove videos. Thanks for sharing!-Susan

    The one thing that I never regretted was keeping a garden spade in my car in the winter. It SEEMS terrible for shoveling snow, but digging a car out of compacted and heavy snow, there's nothing better in the world for that.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do the same. Haven't had to use it to dig myself out but nice to have just in case. Mine doesn't have a regular length handle on it though, it has a shorter handle with a d-handle on the end of it...great for digging, but yet a bit more compact, still a full size spade just shorter handle. I carry an axe, and a mattock as well in my camp box that stays in the truck all the time.

    • @NorthernKitty
      @NorthernKitty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those foldable camping shovels are well suited, as well. The metal ones, kind of military style, that can lock into a "hoe" position. You can reach under and chip away at the compacted snow under your car from the side, then. I've lived in deep snow territory for about 30 years now, I won't go anywhere without one.

      @Sven Larsson Yes, common sense is rarer than hen's teeth...

    • @christinae30
      @christinae30 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And thst's why I wrote that some (a lot?) never used their common sense. I was thinking of people that believe that one should follow leaders and guidelines only, and not think if it's reasonable. And the other is people not knowing their own limitations.
      And of course, one can say that if a person have the ability for common sense but cannot use it, then they don't have it...
      I think my point was that I wish more people to cultivate their common sense, but I guess it's hard if you never get any new input/feedback.

    Always educational and enjoyable! Whether that was a small river or a large creek, it was beautiful! When you returned from your walk, came outside the camper and had a seat, I thought I’d see a beer in your hand!

    I like your stove. I have experimented with many stove designs primarily for use in ice huts tho I now have built a massive brick stove in my home using the principles learned. Some suggestions; 1) make a wind vane cap for your chimney, 2) use a "T" where you use an elbow on your outside chimney, you can cap the bottom of it if you want and drill some holes to allow drainage or just leave it open. Both of these will help with back draft problems. 3) wrap your external chimney in another piece of pipe of the same diameter, or larger if you want to insulate it with say mineral wool, and this will help with your creosote problems as it will help keep the flue gasses warm. Most of my stoves were based on the rocket stove principle such that fresh air intake is thu the hopper, not thru the door. I don't remember how well this worked with pellets but it should, as gasifiers use the same principle. Your poke stick works well, a shaker might work better. oh, and I assemble my chimneys opposit to yours such that all drainage stays in the flu, this does not hurt and I have yet to notice smoke leaking from the joints. Hope you find something useful here. Thanks for your chronicles, I do enjoy them. Happy travels pilgrim.

    Another video to love! So many aspects of this one are stellar! My favorite of all has to be renaming Dennis Hopper to Dennis the Menace - LOL, such entertainment!
    Really appreciate the follow up on the Fat 50 stove, such a great build and build series. Your filming and documenting skills are first rate in my book.
    So many great comments too, I read at least 200 of them. Many shed light on areas I haven't considered yet - brings me to one of my 3 favorite life lessons, you don't know, what you don't know.
    Looking forward to your next video SP - I know, you've created an insatiable "appetite" in your subscribers, and no amount of "bad" cooking is going to detract us from wanting more!

    I am glad i found you. I mean I have watched your whole library and have been keeping up. I really enjoy the wood stove videos even though I opt for your #4 camping in warmer climates. I live in AZ and have no want to camp in the Pacific North Wet, but I sure do enjoy watching you guys do it. It is really pretty and serene. My favorite is your answers to just about everything. Your budget fixes are super fun. Keep it up! Thanks for the videos.

    I love the disclaimers. You are certainly right about going to a warmer climate not to deal with the heating situation. I am a tent camper in Florida i don't need a heat source but it does get uncomfortable in the summer.
