Thanks for the helpful explanation of all the menu functions. Just a note, you really should calibrate the battery Voltage indication. Yours is showing 8.47V! Lithium Ion should never go above 8.4V for a 2S battery. I’m certain if you put a known good meter on the rear battery terminals it will be a bit less than 8.4V in reality. The USB charging port won’t take it much above 8V. The base stand charger stops at less than 8.4V (at least mine does anyway). My Set was showing well above the actual battery Voltage when new out of the box last week. HTH.
In the Voltage Calibrate screen simply adjust the correction value up or down until the voltage displayed correctly matches the meter measured voltage on the battery rear terminal pads. You only need to do this once. @@dublinese415
STE is mainly used on repeaters (a receiver that uses CTCSS). It is supposed to continue TXing for a short duration but with no CTCSS or a reverse tone on DCS. Most of these radios don't do it correctly so it remains a useless feature because it wasn't built correctly. On commercial 2-way radios systems back in the day that used CTCSS (PL/CG/QT tones) it works great. Most hams don't set their repeaters up correctly for these features to work right.
Reverse burst or Squelch Tail Elimination ("STE") is a process that uses a change of the phase of the PL tone encoder for a short period of time after the user unkeys the PTT button. The term "reverse burst" is used to describe the deliberate phase change for a specific abount of time while the transmitter carrier stays on - about 150 to 200ms - with the phase of the PL encoder offset by from 120 to 180 degrees (180, naturally is a complete reversal). During the reverse burst time period the reverse phase stops the PL decode reed dead in its tracks - which slams the receiver squelch closed right now. By the time the transmitter actually drops off the air the RX squelch is already closed - which results in no burst of squelch noise being heard.
Hi Ben. Thank you for a well-explained tutorial. I need, from an experimental task only, even when I am fully licensed G4SVY, to transmit in all bands but find the F Lock feature to do that does not change anything? You mentioned something in the way of having to repeat the operation 10 times, can you elaborate on how exactly you do that to unlock all bands, please?
Hi, when you go into the hidden menu and select 'F Lock' then 'Unlock All' you'll get the message 'Read Manual' Repeat the 'Unlock All' selection 10 times and eventually you will no longer get the 'Read Manual' message and the radio is unlocked.
I wonder if egzumer provides a button for momentarily exclude a memory channel from being scanned without fiddling with the scan lists? In IJV you can simply press the star button. Thanks for going through the menu items Ben!
Great video it was helpful. I have a question. Can you do an update on the new version 31.5w . The reason I ask is that I just got my radio today and just flashed it to 31.if 5w. Still understanding the radio a bit more. Thank you
Great video, my friend! I just have one question, if you can help, I would really appreciate it. Every time I change some setting through the menu, for example, setting the step to 5kHz, the change only applies to the current frequency, and when I change the frequency, the step doesn't follow. The same thing happens with TXPwr. Can you help me apply the same settings to all frequencies? Thank you.

What is the best radio for Am for picking up Aircraft please 🙏 Alan from Luton ps people say not to up loed it because the watts charge from 2 watts to 8 watts and they go all over the place . Thanks for help Alan from Luton ✈️🇬🇧💯👍
Hi Alan. If you just was a cheap radio for listening to aircraft then this should be fine, especially if your not planning on transmitting with it. (You can turn off transmit in the settings if you want to) Most, if not all of the modified firmware will improve AM reception. The only issue with these radios is when people try using them to transmit on frequencies that they are not intended for. Hope this helps.
Amazing tutorial video thank you so much. Just a quick question, when i hold button 8 in for 2sec, on the screen it shows a R letter. Any idea what that does? Thanks

How can I avoid not getting a knock on the door? Just never send and only receive? Thank you. I am new. From the US. Also is it ok to charge it from the c port?
You can use the hidden menu to set the radio to 'Disable All' which will not allow TX on any band/frequency. Also, not really. It's recommended by the manufacturer that you avoid charging will the USB port. (I'm not really sure why they fitted it to the later models to be honest)
