I think rofyle's reasoning is based on statistics (ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and many others has done time and time again) that, American Samoa, with a population of JUST 65,000 people (small enough to fit in a professional level sports stadium), they generate an alarmingly high rate of players playing American football at a high level - Division I college to NFL. St. Thomas Aquinas high school is a private school (Catholic) in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, a main city within the Miami metropolitan. Ft. Lauderdale has a population of almost 170,000 people (according to the latest census). That is a much larger population pool (almost 3x the population of American Samoa) to recruit/pull talent from. Furthermore, a private school is not bound by public high school rules, meaning they are free to recruit players from all over the Miami metropolitan area (a population of over 6 MILLION people!). That's just Miami! Players can be recruited from ALL OVER THE STATE or THE COUNTRY! for that matter, which is a common practice of private high schools. An excellent example of this practice is Bishop Gorman (a private Catholic high school) in Las Vegas, Nevada. I also happen to personally know that private high schools (Catholic or otherwise) in California do this also. They do it because they simply CAN. I can assure you economically-depressed America Samoa is not recruiting players from outside the island to come and play in a country with sub-standard facilities, equipment, and organization. And with all these disadvantages, they still pump out more high-level American football talent than anywhere else in the America. Now, use your imagination a little and imagine if American Samoa had a population of Ft. Lauderdale, or of Miami, or of Florida! p.s. Our Rugby team (made up of white, but mostly Tongans, Fijians, and Samoans) will be traveling to Florida. I hope to see you on the field. Let's have a go at it mate. Be sure to bring your team doctor. It will be a long day. Lastly, Netflix has a documentary called Pacific Warriors. Check it out sometime.
