    I used Retro Game Treasures back in 2015 or so and I remember being very, very happy with almost every month of service. Granted, this was 7 years ago already. I would not have been happy with what you got, haha.

    i will never understand people that use these services vs. just spending that same money on games they actually want to buy/play anyways. to each their own i guess, if there wasn't a audience for it we wouldnt have any companies offering these services.

      Sometimes like thrifting, you do know know what you are going to find/get. Nice for those that do not want to buy outright or like surprises.

      As John said, it's about the mystery of what is in your box. For me it's about getting some games I've never heard of or since I completed the US N64 set I can now start on the Japanese set with Video Gamss Monthly.

      There is a complete lack of retro game stores in my area, so services like these help me fill in the holes in my collection. I might not get to choose exactly what they send me, but I have found several games that I liked that I probably never would have tried if I saw them on a shelf in a store.

      For some people who are new collectors I think this might be a good way to build from the ground up who don’t have to worry about getting a game they already have

    I cannot imagine why collectors would like to pay for either service. Buy the games you want. Grab bags for classic games sounds like a bad deal to me personally.

    I’ve been a Retro Game Treasure subscriber for a year and it’s been pretty good. I’m mostly interested in Genesis , Sega CD , NES, SNES and Gameboy and they’ve delivered some good games. Yeah you get a month where it’s not all that great but there where quite a few boxes that had some great surprises . Nice getting complete Sega CD and Genesis games ! I’d recommend their service for sure .

    LOL that Lego Chima 3DS game was sold at the Five Below store. For $5. I guess this is the next step before it ends up at a Goodwill, to give it away in a random box.

    Dishonored is a really fun game, I enjoyed 2 and death of the outsider as well. Ive been using RGT for years and have been generally satisfied with the service. Some months are definitely not worth it but other months it is and i always like the surprise of what i'm going to get. I buy it by the year so its the cheapest option.

    I had used both and VGM is #1. RGT provided low budget filler titles and all the games were dirty. Only received 5 games the entire year subscription. VGM helped me build my Sega Game Gear collection. They are collectors to and communicated with me via Facebook messenger. Highly recommend if you are looking to go for a complete loose collection of the older systems like N64 or game gear.

  • @davidb69
    @davidb69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honestly the biggest thing I have done is I’ve attempted to gather where the biggest values are in collections and I’m trying to figure out the services and how to get the biggest bang for my buck. Last few months I’ve tried VGM with Dreamcast, nes and ps2 and RGT with nes and n64. I plan to remove nes from one list and maybe add sega genesis games even though I hate getting loose carts in my genesis collection which has been all completes so far after 200 plus games . Last month my values were pretty close to price charting with both systems.

  • @Owazrim
    @Owazrim 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    3 v 5 is a rough comparision and if you do this for a few months I think it would provide a better comparison.
    If you really want it to be more balanced I would sub through a friend because if either service links you to your sub you could get extras you may not necessarily normally get.
    I would also wait and do several boxes at once.
    month to month it's tough to compare just because these things can vary so much.

    • @johnhancockretro
      @johnhancockretro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is my third month straight of VGM and they have been consistent. I have covered them on previous videos. Yes there is some variation, but overall I am happy with their service.

      @@johnhancockretro I did RGT for over a year and have been doing VGM for over two years.
      Both services are okay for what they are. You aren't going to get any big hitters but it can be a great way to fill in common holes in the collection and get stuff you don't know about.

    This video was the complete opposite of my experience. I was planning on shooting a video like this a year or two ago so I had both services for 3 or 4 months and every time retro game treasure gave me better value games as well as had a wish list. Which is something vgm didn’t have. This was an interesting video but his experience is definitely not a common occurrence. Like I said vgm lost 3 months in a row to retro game treasure. 😕

    I can't recommend EA's service at all. I'll never forget loading up NFS Heat in the first week of its release to have it crash within the first 5 minutes of gameplay. Outside of setting my clockspeed so that it was stable, it was the only time my bulletproof PC build had crashed while doing anything. EA uses their game pass as an excuse to release games that still need some QA work done. That year's Madden also was a sh$tshow for PC, and it turns out that the earlier year version had the same carryover bugs into the current year. Most of their games are the type where you just screw around with them a few hours before deleting them. Waste of $99.

    Xbox Game Pass is king, day 1 releases and a ton of great games with them adding more all the time, PS Plus still has a long way to go but it could get there (although PlayStation will never add Persona 3 FES to PS Plus so i'm a bit annoyed haha)

    • @TheTrueBro
      @TheTrueBro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      GP and PS+ aren't even in the same league as these services where you actually get physical games.
      If I had the money and the space at home, I'd gladly join these to get rare gems (or average stuff, i dunno)
