Orange County Physical Therapist and Certified Functional Manual Therapist, Dr. Lin talks about how the hip, the legs, and the arms correlate to proper walking, and how it can help you walk more efficiently. Proper walking helps prevent pain and other chronic injuries.
It is recommended that we should walk about 10,000 steps (roughly 3-4 miles) a day to reap the benefits of an active life. With so many steps, it becomes counterproductive to continue with an inefficient walking pattern, which could lead to potential problems down the road. Studies have shown that low back pain, headaches, TMJ, and/or neck problems may possibly stem from poor walking mechanics. Ultimately, becoming aware of the correct walking pattern will lead you closer to a pain-free life!

Hello awkward walkers! You are not alone. We are in this together!
Edit, after 3 years: My legs are bent as fuck but it does give me an advantage as a footballer for some reason. I was called "gay" when I was younger because of my awkward walk but it has definitely gotten better with practice. Just chew a gum or listen to music or just wear a sunglass to distract yourself when you are walking alone as it gets worse when you are conscious about your walk. Distract yourself from thinking about it by any way possible. If none of these exercises or distractions work , just walk super fast. It is my recent discovery and it works for me. Thanks for the 3.8k likes. It made me happy.
Edit after 6 years: Still walking awkward but walking fast still helps a lot

@@jonas33428 I have not but I did have a revelation and I am currently exploring that. Revelation. And that is to say that I have been strengthening my glutes through exercise and I have noticed and improvement to my walking gate. As a result. This is something I've never considered before but I have a rather flat butt. I believe now that it is at least one of the culprits.

I walk with a limp because I have internal scar tissue in my knee from post surgery and I hate the limp with a passion! This helped a lot. Thank you! It’s so difficult to walk correctly after I have essentially had to re-learn to walk after not doing so for so long. My range of motion isn’t where it ought to be either but hopefully in due time!

This actually removes some of the discomfort from my chronic achilles tendinopathy. I think this form + zero drop/minimalistic shoes would be a great long term benefit.
