- Ford created an experimental car of the future called the Mystere. The '55 Crown Vic would borrow some of those design cues including the stainless steel wrapover roof band sometimes referred to as the " basket handle", or the tiara. The '55 model was a complete makeover in design which had the Crown Vic at the top followed by Victoria, Sunliner convertible, station wagons, Fairlane, Customline, and lastly the Mainline. There were 3 engines available for any model of Ford. These were the L-head 6, 223 cid, 120 hp., V8, 272 cid, 162 hp., and a V8, 272 cid, 182 hp. The Crown Vic came with or without a Plexiglas roof insert but only 1,999 were built vs. 33,165 Vics with standard steel roof. The Plexiglass Vic costs $2,272 and the standard roof cost $2,202. The new design caused sales to increase to levels not seen at Ford since 1923. This Crown Vic is just spendidly restored in it's red and white 2-tone color scheme seen inside as well as out. The engine compartment - you could eat off of it, the fender skirts, arm rest, speedometer window on top to view with sunlight shining through and the basket handle crown are all features that make this particular Vic a truly beautiful car. Look this over and I'm sure you'll agree that mid-fifties Ford products are in a field all by themselves. Thanks very much for viewing this 1955 Ford Crown Victoria hardtop.
My second car was a 1955 ford two door hardtop ....That was in 1963 and I loved that car.
My favorite cars are Fords from the mid fifties. The 55 and 56 Fords are the best looking. Lucky you Cecil having one of those. Thanks for enjoying this video.
Absolutely beautiful machine...I want one..lol
I absolutely love all the mid-fifties Ford products. This one is a dream car. Thanks so much for liking.
1955 was a big year for the big three. After 1949 I think 1955 was the next year for some really great styling changes. Someone sure went through a lot effort to bring this beauty up to show room class.
@hristo369 All the mid-fifties cars are wonderful for sure. 1955 was the year! Thanks for enjoying this Crown Vic and commenting.
Yes, it is also known as a tiara. I came across this other name, the basket handle, while doing research. At any rate thanks for viewing and commenting.
Yesss !!!
1955 Great year for the big three.
The design of the cars in the 50s is a wonderful :)
Just gorgeous. Dad had a 55 country sedan
+John Hiram I am a huge fan of mid=fifties Ford products so much so, that I have several mid-fifties Ford videos. I think I might have a video of a 55 country sedan. Many thanks to you for lovin' the fifties Fords also.
+55lincoln My grampa had a 56 convertible and Dad also had a 57 squire. tbird engine. A very powerful wagon!
I was 50s kid. The 55 had v8 stick shift
+John Hiram Man, what a Ford family. A convertible and a squire wagon with a T-bird engine yet. Marvelous. Thanks again very much.
@cheddyrod :Yes, wasn't 1955 a banner year for the big three? GM - start of tri five, V8 Chevys, Chrysler - the forward look starts with wayout radical designs & fins, FoMoCo with all divisions facelifts, unique styling, safety features. And this here Crown Vic! Superb professional restoration. Why this Ford looks brand spanking new. A real winner I'd like to have. Thanks for enjoying.
the band of trim across the roof is called a Tiara. like a queens "crown"
Hi, it's been a while since last time we communicated, first of all I'd like (delayed, sorry!)to wish you a pleasant '12 with further "discoveries" health & peace; concerning your video I found that it was Ford in particular which presented, in my modest opinion, among the most attractive vehicles: '54 Monterrey cpe,'56 Premiere, '56 Continental cpe, '55 Tbird, '55 F100... In all segments there were "sexy" news,of course the Imperial, 300 or Nomads, Corvettes were nice but Ford was top, your op?
@65emkay My best wishes to you and yours for 2012 also. Ford did an outstanding job of redesign with all divisions this year. As well as the other car makers but I really like the Ford products, - hence my channel name of 55lincoln. The 56 Continental and Lincoln capri are more pleasing and popular than the 55 Lincoln but I like all the Ford models. Simply great design and engineering. Of course, I like all cars including the ones you named. Thanks so much for your contribution.
