Since I am 70 years old I remember cars like this from my childhood years. That was an era when cars were a lot simpler than they are today. Also it was the era of the three speed column shift, which was called the standard transmission back then. In times past my parents had a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air that was a very basic model with a 3 speed column shift that my father and mother drove.
I could definitely nick pick this guys shifting technique. These young wippersnapers weren't alive when the three on the tree were the standard and most common transmission in cars. They all really dont use work the gearshift correctly. This guy grinds a little bit of reverse while shifting to second from first. He also puts the car in neutral while braking. Puting the entire burden of slowing and stopping on the brakes, rather than letting the engine assist in slowing the car down.
I could notice the Ford Y block groaning starter. Love that sound. By 1955 cars were geared for higher speeds as this one is (probably a 3.54 to 1 ratio according to a book I have) In the years before this many makes had low ratios and the engine would be screaming at 45-50 mph.
Surprised the Victoria was equipped with 3 on the tree...Most Victoria level Fords were fordomatics. Dad had a 56 black and white Victoria....sharp car
Отлично едет и звучит! Удивило на сколько похожи впечатления от Форд 1955 и моего Газ 21 1958г. Даже приборная панель похожа и звук двигателя th-cam.com/users/shortsstDF_KueBI4
Great ride along vide DT, one of the best I've seen on YT. The Y block sounds healthy too. Was it recently rebuit? Maybe you can answer a nagging question, were the Y blocks in Fords all solid tappets? - Thank you - Sandy
Synchro blockers are likely a bit worn or incorrect gear oil is installed. GL5 can do that to even a fresh tranny. DOnt be foloed by MT-1 on the drum, That is spec'd for non synchromesh HD truck tansmissions.
She grinds going into second because the driver doesn't know the technique for shifting a column mounted gear shift. He is holding the gearshift like a floor shifter. He is touching the reverse gear before he pushes the gearshift toward the dash and up into second. When shifting with a column shifter, you use that palm of your hand to slide the shifter up while also applying a gentle pressure toward the dash and the gearshift slides right into place and you won't hear the grinding.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime :-(/

Yes I believe they were all solids.
Can we see the rest of the car?
Swwweeeeeeet!
Neat!
Why does she grind going into second gear ?
