    You’ve got a good work habit. It’s hard to find people today who understand the pattern of work. Especially young people. They don’t realize you actually need to learn how to work. It’s not just flailing away energetically but rather looking at the job long enough to actually see something of the pathway that leads to a successful conclusion. It took my dad several years just to teach me how to swing an ax or dig with a shovel.Too bad there aren’t more like you still demonstrating the way forward.

      Rough Cut Homestead Howdy Mr.Duke- the juggles is the part of the log that was split off. A v notch would be chopped in every so often down the log and the wood in between, the juggle, was split off with an axe. Then , using the same axe, they would score the log to sever the fibers of the wood to make it easier to finish up using a broad axe. Hope you’re doing well, brother. God bless y’all

    I have a question. I want a ~30x30 cabin but only have the capability to saw logs to 16 feet and honestly around here straight logs larger than that are rare with the exception of oak and the rare yellow popular and oak is out of my budget. Could I make each side have a post at the middle of the wall and just mortoise and tennon them in? I don’t like the idea of joining logs end to end it seems very weak to me unless you know anything about it. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Also, how do these homes pass code? Around here the r value for a mass wall is like 17 and that ain’t happening with logs. I was gonna cover mine up with wood fiber insulation and plaster on top, but that isn’t cheap and I heat with wood anyways.

    • @TheBeardedCarpenter
      @TheBeardedCarpenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Niedbala Howdy Matthew- I do join logs end to end with a mortice and tenon joint with pegs and they don’t come apart. I am going to do a video of that when I get a chance. I don’t know where you live so I can’t tell about the codes there. We have never had trouble with codes where I’m at. A properly built log building is incredibly strong. To comment on the R- value, the logs will absorb heat in the winter and reflect it back into the room. Same with the ac. Our log house is easy to heat and cool.
