I must say there was not much tar paper anywhere before 1949.. So seeing it on the bottom course this building was perhaps redone in the 50’s ro 1960s.. The block were perhaps installed then and replaced many rocks in the foundation. your work has been very nice and fun to watch.. thank you for posting this..I wish I was there to help.. I have done a bit of this over the years..mostly is rural central Idaho..☺️👍

Is it always necessary to jack up the structure from the inside? I have a 100yo log home in need of bottom log replacement on two sides. Additionally, the home needs to be raised a few inches (settling on the sides with rotten logs) and foundation added.
I am full of admiration for what you are doing. Are you adding another 100 years of life to the building by replacing just what has rotted out with the same sort of log as the original. And using much the same level of carpentry as the original. I suggest you are at my preferred end of the carpentry spectrum and Finish Carpentry TV is at the extreme other end with it's profligate use of materials and energy putting in fake ceiling beams as per this episode: th-cam.com/video/NAWiNbGqPCE/w-d-xo.html . You should have distressed the beams before installing them to blend in better and also stain them with vinegar to get the proper aged look.
I decided it would be more convenient for me to do it later.
