I appreciate the game. Not a lot of people share this info. Thanks You Sir.
Solid!, glad you got some value for sure!
Bush is in pm
💯💯💯 Thank you! 👏🏽👏🏽
I recommend starting off the video by something like, "A lot of this information is applicable to you only if you live in the USA. If you're in Canada or elsewhere, you're probably going to want to stick to local sources to avoid hefty shipping costs."
🤣 Thanks for the suggestion!
This is an absolute goldmine of laser info. Im brand new to the laser game, so I’m beyond grateful for this info.
Nice!! Glad you think so!
For fire extinguishing, I definitely recommend the Halotron-1 extinguishers. They are well worth the expense to save some expensive equipment. Halon fire extinguishers are even more efficient at putting out a fire (than halotron-1), but halon is getting very difficult to find and it is also very expensive. Production and import of halon (to the US and Canada) was stopped in 1994 (because it was apparently found to be ozone-depleting). However, it is still legal to buy and use halon extinguishers (using existing halon supplies of new and recycled gas). Halotron-1 is an extinguishing agent that was developed to be one replacement for halon. Halon is still apparently preferred for aircraft fires, so such an aircraft web site (or Ebay) may be one place to look if you really want halon.
I recall that in the 1980s and early 1990s halon fire extinguishers could be ready found and inexpensive to purchase at hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes. All of that changed after halon production stopped in 1994. I once used a small halon fire extinguisher to put out a serious kitchen stove fire. It was like magic. It immediately starves the fire of oxygen and the fire just goes out. And the best part is that there is absolutely no clean-up (from the extinguisher) required. It wouldn't even contaminate any nearby food on the counter or stove. By contrast, the dry chemical extinguishers put out the fire, but they make an absolute mess of the surrounding area.

Thanks for taking the time to share all that!
thank you very much
Welcome!!
I love this video, but unfortunately I'm in Australia, so not sure how many of your suggestions would ship to Australia
This has to be the most informative talk given on the laser industry yet!!!! Thanks for the great info and honest opinions on each supplier, business etc. Wonderful :))
Wooo Hoo! Thanks for commenting! glad you got value from it
ciao volevo sapere io ho una macchina laser a co2 da 40 watt e vorrei acquistare una più grande e ne ho vista una con il ciller incorporato e vista la tua esperienza conviene o no avere il ciller incorporata nella macchina ,fammi sapere grazie
Awesome video!!! Thank you sharing your wealth of information and knowledge. Where is the best source to purchase powder coating paint?
sonomalaserengraving.com/products/powder-coating-paint-sample-pack-9-colors
McMaster-Carr not only has everything, it is all first quality. Their catalog is an amazing piece of work.
100% agree
Also, with McMaster Carr, almost everything has cad files. So you can literally model what you are looking to purchase.
Makerflo just updated their site with some great features! One is to be able to mix and match different colors of the same item to create a case discount, and the other is that the multi-case discount applies to cases of different items (i.e. you could get 3 cases of tumblers and two cases of wallets and still get the 5+ case discount).
This is the most well-rounded list I have ever seen! So appreciate you adding the safety equipment to the list.
Nice Thank You!!
Great video and links... Thanks' I do trade shows (woodturning/CNC) and want to offer onsite engraving in wood and metal, what (portable) laser or lasers do you recommend. For my shop I know I will need Co2 laser and a fiber laser to do all the things I want to do but Im all ears if you have recommendations.
Sounds great! Hit me up via email and I give you my recommendations for your application laserengraving911@gmail.com
I'm a newbie. Just came across my first laser engraving video a few days ago. Your video is one I will put on the shelf and come back to often. I am excited. At this point I have a lot of research. I do not want to regret my first laser purchase. The Facebook page for Epilog Lasers, I never heard of them until your video.
Where do I find a list of brands, how they rank in customer service, reliability, quality and versatility? Do manufactures offer classes that you can attended in person before you buy?
Lots of good questions right there and thanks for watching! Your initial investment for getting started will be a big factor of course. There are a wide range of machines and price ranges, and features on each machine, if you you are just wanting to try laser engraving out and not ready to get an industrial level unit I would look at the S1 40watt by Xtool shrsl.com/4b43x the reason I recommend this unit, is they have been around for a while now, and have a very large following and lots of support groups on FB, as well as decent customer support. If you want to go pro right off the bat, and get started in the Co2 laser world, and money is no object,, then I will always recommend Epilog Laser The Epilog Edge 24 with 60watts is a great unit, and will last you a life time, and get your jobs completed in record time, with superior customer support and a huge following on FB with lots of support groups. I also offer private consultations if you would like to book with me a 1 hr session, Id be happy to speak further with you about all this : ) you can reach out to me michael@laserengraving911.com
Thank you!! I will definitely use joy designers. I’m fairly proficient in illustrator as well, but like you said some of the graphics we get to work with are impossible time consuming lol
Exactly! Best to just get it done and get going!
Thanks for the video.. Couldn't use the Product sites (Live in the UK) but the others were great
You’re welcome 😊
Sux to be Australian, we can't get Halon-based fire extinguishers, they have been banned since 1995. 😓
😒
Thank you so much for this, as a newbie was feeling quite overwhelmed. This has helped me so much. Liked and Subscribed!
Glad it helped! and thank you for watching and supporting my channel
Just started in the laser field. Thank you so much for all the great information in the video.
Sure thing, keep digging there is so much more to than these 20 sites! lots of good info to find!
The more you buy, the less you pay.
How many do I have to buy in order to get them for FREE?
:
buying in bulk is the way to go! for those discounts.
Great resource list, will have find some local equivalent for some here in Oz. But this gives me starting point to search for.
Thank You!
Really appreciate the great information. Nice job on the video & look forward to more of your content & learning.
Thank You!!!
ciao potresti aiutarmi , mi serve una scheda di controllo per la mia macchina laser co2 40watt piano di lavoro 40x40 mi daresti il link per comprarla ,ti ringrazio

Great video man. Very informative and you just have a good demeanor about yourself. My name is Clinton. Completely new to the laser profession but I'm getting ready to purchase an OMtech 100w AF2435 I believe. I'll definitely be talking with you. Have a great day man and thank you for the content.
Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback appreciate that! If you want to book a 1hr consultation with me when you get all set up with your new system You can do that here, and we can go over, your laser business, and get your started off right. www.sonomalaserengraving.com/product-page/1-hour-personalized-consultation-with-laser-engraving-911
@@LaserEngraving911 You're very appreciated! Thank you.
Man this is exactly what I need to know right now! Thanks for sharing some trade secrets.
Any time!
You are so right about those powder extinguishers. But halon any size is the right way to go even for us Diode laser guys. But a bit spender. Now I understand they have small units for small enclosures check them out.
I would like to buy powder coating paint sample from you…
sonomalaserengraving.com/products/powder-coating-paint-sample-pack-9-colors
Do you have a more recent site or other resource for Joy Designers? The website doesn't seem to work any more. Thanks!
best way to get ahold of joy is info@joydesigners.com she is very responsive! the site might be down right now. but her email works great.
JDS is amazing! You don’t need a tax ID number to sign up for them though. They do ask for one if you sign up on their website but I’ve had an account for over a year now and I’ve never had one. I can’t remember now exactly what I had to do but I believe I just called them and explained I was just starting out so I didn’t have a tax id number and they set me up an account over the phone. I also got $25 to spend on sample packs to try out products when I signed up which was super helpful since I’ve never even seen some of the different types of materials you can engrave on. I don’t know if they still do the $25 offer or if that was a limited time thing but either way it’s a great site with amazing products. If your lucky enough to live near a warehouse you can pick up your orders in person and don’t have to worry about paying for shipping.
That's great ! Thanks for sharing that!
This is good information, thanks! I'm just in the research phase, watching videos, and stuff. The thought of having to jump right into getting a business license was only putting more stress on me, haha
Would you recommend JDS Industries for Cutting Boards for laser engraving? Their prices are better (more affordable) than Boards4engraving.
Board4engraving, has some very nice USA made products, and they engrave like a dream, JDS is great for cutting boards if your buying in bulk! They have nice stuff too, juts not the quality level of Boards4engraving.
I'm new at this and this is a great help. Some fantastic resources!
Great to hear! Your Welcome!
Love JPP! I don't have a tax number, still mostly just gifts and playing. Never had an issue ordering. Can get one or two of something just to try out. Best part is a warehouse 2 miles away so can pick up order within a few hours, no shipping! Love their color hues glitter sheets. Beautiful!
Thanks great, maybe they have loosened there policy and anyone can make an account! without a business license or tax id or resale permit number, if that's the case right on more business for them!
I want to etch / engrave on metal and cut / engrave some ply. What engraver would you recommend for a beginner for less than $500? Should I buy LightBurn when I get a laser engraver???
You def want to get a laser that is Lightburn Compatible for sure what ever you get. Regarding my suggestion for your first machine, I cannot recommend nay in that price range, sorry, You could always get diode laser set up but I really don't like recommending those as they are unsafe, usually built poorly, and don't have a long life span, and you are very limited to what you can engrave a cut. If you want to start off right I would recommend you look at the Ranger 3 from Light Object. I have a video on it here. th-cam.com/video/AYfm3UptofY/w-d-xo.html
@@LaserEngraving911 Thanks for the info! This is just for hobbies so I cant really stretch beyond $500, and the R3 at $4500 is out of reach. I was looking at the Spider x1 and M1, the xtool D1, or the sculpfun 10w S30. Would you recommend any of those or should i wait until the CO2 units get cheaper?
Is there a term for a font that does not have any internal islands? What I mean is a font you could laser cut without any extra bits falling out.
Some stencil fonts are like this but I don't want a font that looks like a stencil. You can certainly manually add little bridges in any software to fix this issue, but I have always kind of wanted a variety of fonts that are like this to start.
They would be useful not only in laser cutting, but I have also manually made them for 3d printing for when a small font is being put on the bed and I don't want to worry about little bits inside a 'B" lifting off the bed and just making a mess.
I usually just take fonts I like and make the bridges like you said when I need to. But you might want to look for "continuous fonts" or connected fonts.
@@LaserEngraving911 Awesome, nice to have some terms to try searching for.
seems like co2 would be the best fire extinguisher.
Possible def not powder that's for sure!
Something about Mcmaster Carr that not many know about is they give 3D files of all of their products. Most need just 1 step until until it can be 3d printed
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼🎉😎
I am in the before beginig stage...have not bought my laser yet. This information is so good, I think I will not go to sleep tonight...there is so much to see. THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Can I use a Co2(Carbon Dioxide) fire extinguisher? Need an answer soon please, thank you.
Yes you can, Co2 Extinguisher are not considered corrosive to metals, however there is the risk of cold shock, but over all I would say, YES for your purposes it a good choice.
@@LaserEngraving911 thank you for your reply!
Cool. First comment. I’ve been wondering where everyone gets their boards and acrylics. I have a business license but no tax id number.
You should be good, with business license only just reach out to them to see what they can work out!
Man, that Halotron has sure gone up in price, sheesh.
its always going to go up! There is only a finite amount left to sell.
Definitely found some new sites (and products) to check out. Thanks dude!
Welcome!
Wow... I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share this information with us. I'm new to laser engraving, and I have literally spent hours upon hours researching different design tools and companies to source materials from. So glad I found your channel. Again... can't thank you enough for all your help. I just laser engraved the like button on my phone...
Now I'm commenting on my laptop
Awesome! glad you got some value!
This video is hands down the most valuable tidbit of highly useable information for the laser community. I think you deserve the "slow clap" while you do a mic drop. thank you very much !
Glad you got that much value from it!! Awesome!

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks great job I have a lot of homework
Happy to help
Great video, thanks for the info.
No problem!
Thank you for this video
You are welcome!
I was wondering, I have a lot of old lp records. Can you cut these with a laser engraver, with adequate ventilation of course.
nope, do not cut those with the laser, highly toxic and will damage your machine internals. those need to be cut with a scroll saw, not laser.
@@LaserEngraving911 how about etching regular "picture frame glass"? Can you do that? Thanks for all your help.
@@johnphillips8667 Sure thing you can etch glass all day long with Co2 laser, really nice!
Thank you so very much. I’m especially grateful you put in safety information. I’ve got an F1 and have a Mira on order so I want to be prepared. Keep up the awesome videos.

Super helpful video. Kudos. Do you have any recommended sources for leather?
Hide House Napa California, The best!
some good info there, just a bit too much US oriented...
This was a terrific video with a “treasure trove” (to use your phrase) of information! I have never heard about about the safety equipment like you described. Everyone needs that information which is very cheap insurance to protect your assets. Good job!
