bro. I'm a girl, I like Shunei tho. Shunei is accepted by Japanese and Chinese fans, mostly the ones that complain about his design are western fanboys. I live in China and honestly, Shunei kinda looks like a Vocaloid character and Vocaloid is insanely popular here among teens.

There was bit of a similar reaction to Ash when he first appeared. I think it's because that designs like those aren't too common in the west, especially for male characters
I used to hate the shit about shun'ei but after reading his story again I think he's a pretty cool character.

OK so take this with a grain of salt since I'm not well versed in Chinese culture or if its true,
But apparently his outfit is based on a Chinese fashion trend called ' "idiocy", where teenage boys or adults with low self esteem put together a miscordinated outfit as a kind of anti fashion/hipster statement
tbh, that's fit with him. [spoiler alert] in the manga, Shun Ei needs so much assurance from his master to unleash his yet-controllable power (and even to have fun with it against Ryo).

If they gave Shunei a sleeveless jacket(that he actually puts on), less colors, and get rid of the tie, I bet he'll look better.
I dont think that will fit the character much though.
I like the cape jacket, though it would probably look better if it were longer. They could also change the purple on his shirt & tie & make it red to match the sleeves & bandages.

People need to cut Shun'ei some slack I think he's a great character and I really his story so far. He doesn't deserve to be hated. He's a great addition to KOF even Rock. I did know about the female attraction and the Howard connection part, Still I think in my opinion Shun'ei deserves to be treated fair and be more loved and respect, and Rock too.

That's a really nice video (and you're right the poor boy can't catch a break) also another cool fact about Shun'ei is that his Voice Actor also voiced two heroes with some green on them, those being Fox in Starfox Zero and Link in Skyward Sword

I'm a female fan of KOF and I don't like Shun ei...I love him. His design is actually pretty awesome, and his abilities are awesome. I love playing with him in KOF 14

When I saw Shun'ei at first time I thought something like male version of Hatsune Miku, I wasn't interested on manga or games, but the bad comments from my friends made curious about recent mangas, he is known as weak girly otaku. 😂 The notion of men for portuguese ones is different from asian. I love Shun'ei, he is a good character for me. ❤
i guess i’m two yrs late but shun’ei’s design did draw me to the game.
it was really exciting to see characters with such fashionable designs and led to me checking out the kof franchise.
i should say i mean fashionable as in stuff tht we wear at fashion school, where when everyone is well dressed you need to do more to stand out. i think this kinda fits since snk characters feel much more fashion forward than other fighting games.
especially compared to games like tekken where it feels like the fashion direction is led by stylish ppl, but stylish ppl who were born before the new millenium

This might be a weird opinion, but even though I like Shun'ei's design, I think he looks WAY better in his 2D art. The style didn't translate well in 14, but it did improve a little in 15.
Also for the record, I am a female and Shun'ei got me into me into KOF. I'm into a lot of Japanese stuff and apparently the complaints about his outfit are more of a western complaint? I can't say for sure though. Either way he grew on me. I found out about him through his voice actor because I'm a big Zelda fan, so to be fair it wasn't his design that initially got my attention.
I dont think thats weird at all. Its very similar to what I think about his new climax which came from the manga. It was still better left in the manga if you ask me. It translated poorly to the game.

While I find his outfit too busy, he slowly started to grow on me. But to answer your question, no he wasn't the character that drew me to getting KoF15. That would be Ash and Dolores. 😂

Female KOF fan here🙋♀️ Shun does not appeal to me at all. Kyo's design is really simple but effective. Kyo drips charm in his movements and demeanor (heh heh heh moetaro anyone?) That's why he's been consistently popular with the female fans. Shun does not have that.
Look I honestly like shun'ei i thinks he's cool compared to the other 3 in my opinion but his design it could be better and move sets maybe needs more then what he's got and his climax could've been better but other then that I thinks he's great plus he's like my in team that I main also I love how he has tons of connections to fatal fury

I am a female KOF fan. I think shun ei looks like a Vocaloid. I like Vocaloid. Therefore I like Shun ei lol.
Controversial opinion inbound: I actually really, really love his design. People say it's overdesigned, and while that may be the case for KoF standards, I still dig it. The jacket that acts as a cape, the pants with one leg rolled up, the fingerless gloves, and especially the headphones. If there's one way to increase the likelihood of having me like a design, it's to have the character wear either headphones or goggles, whether they're used or not. If there was one nitpick, I have, it's that he keeps his shirt tucked it. You're in a fight, kid, not a dance.
For me Kyo is and always will be the main protagonist of KOF just like Ryu is in Street Fighter and Jin is in Tekken etc.
It would have been a boring series, if that was the case. He's there in the plot and roster by association and roster for gameplay reasons.

Ryu, kyo, and Jin are the faces for street fighter,kof, and tekken however those games have different protagonist in different parts for multiple reason but mainly showing off new characters and new stories.
Ryu was always the protagonist in all Street Fighter games, though he was the secondary protagonist in the Street Fighter 3 games, with Alex being the main one. Jin was the protagonist in most Tekken games, which makes him the overall protagonist. Kyo was the protagonist in most King of Fighters games too, but he's considered, and also I, by extension, consider him the "true" protagonist for a different reason: because he always has some degree of importance to the later three sagas. So no wonder why Ryu, Jin and Kyo are still considered the main protagonists of their respective series.
I didn't know Shun'ei was from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lol. Yeah Shun'ei's design is dreadful but he's a fun character and a tolerable personality

i think he is cool and i love his design, i never liked any snk mc other than rock because terry looked boring and well kyo is alright, i almost did not play kof anymore because kasumi and hinako weren't in before finding billy kane and remembering leona and whip, i think shun'ei might be my biggest reason to buy 15 and it feels weird knowing he is supposed to appeal to girls

My opinion on Shun'ei's design is the same I have for Tekken 7 Devil Jin. I don't think his design is THAT bad.
So like many i hated shun'ei overall. Now his story grew on me and i want him to become a cool character. That being said. He needs a overhaul on his look. Imho i think he would look much better/cooler if he actually wore his damn jacket loose his goofy ass tie and for gods sake. Unroll your damn pant ya twerp. And finally adding to the comment about his look being part of his personality because he doesn't fit in and feels all alone. Now that he is going to meet Isla and realize he isn't alone he could change that and judging by her personality she could even tell him to stop moping around looking like a emo dork and unroll his pants. Seems like he lacks confidence and isla could help hip with that. That would be cool imo

I'm not really big fan of Shun'ei's design because of its has insane crashing colors and I don't know what he's supposed to be, martial artist, student, gamer or fashionista. I'm always disgust of his green hair and his purple tie. The way he wear his pant, jacket on shoulder and headphone are not gonna work. Plus, he has zero personality (sort of). Not even his super moves aren't good nor his trailer. His rival's design is way better than him.

As a female KOF fan, I can tell you that I did not care about Shun-Ei and he's actually my least favourite protagonist because his personality seemed boring to me his design is a mess in my eyes.

I think a character needs to have good design that compliments their personality, considering they actually have a fleshed out one.
And Shun-Ei doesn't have that in my opinion, which makes him overall a weak protagonist.
