You're my Mum's generation. she was born in 1930 and looked down on Rock and Roll nearly all her life. Then she developed dementia which was terrible, but she forgot she didn't like modern music and was finally able to enjoy it.
4th grade was the first time I ever heard Elvis and this was the first ever song I heard. My best friend (also 4th grade) played this at our sleepover and I loved him ever since. I am now 18 and still listen to him. I am playing him to my nephews and niece so that they know his name. One of them was fussy and wouldn't stop crying, I played Elvis and he is now asleep on my chest.

The band had practiced the song with only one instrumental break, but when they were recording, Elvis suddenly threw to Scotty again, catching him flat footed. He frantically waved at everyone to keep going while throwing up fingers (1! 4!). Scotty wobbled through something off the top of his head, and they got back in the groove. When they finished, Elvis apologized for messing it up . . .

My personal opinion is that Hound Dog represents the high water mark of Rock n Roll. I would stack this song against any other Rock n Roll song of any era. No song rocks harder that this song. Play any song of any group in Rock history of any off shoot of Rock and then play this song. This song is amazing.
