Awesome video! Many people think one has to go to a faraway tropical destination to find beautiful and plentiful sea life. It's right here in our backyard. Thank you!
I watch a fair amount of videos from this area of southern Ca.This one held my attention from beginning to end. I guessed you had put in some serious time to put together so many great scenes. Still, even with over fifty hours of video, you clearly have a healthy environment to work with. I don't think I've ever seen such large schools of fish in your area, and the species diversity is amazing! I hope to get out to your area in the next year or two, and this video gave me some extra incentives to do so!
Wonderful video! I've compiled a couple Laguna Beach videos over about the same amount of hours, but it's not nearly as good as this. I still haven't run into any guitarfish or barracudas. The salemas have been plentiful in schools, which is always a kick to see.
This is amazing!! The bro and I just got started w freediving and this is inspiring! Any recs for better snorkel gear? We've been using the cheap plastic from big 5 but want to try for the better gear we've seen more experienced divers use
Shocking that this is just a year ago! At Monterey Bay where I live the biodiversity is easily less than half of Laguna Beach! This is what Monterey Bay would have looked like 30+ years ago.
Most of the footage was near the Montage resort. We were just there today and conditions right now are most excellent. The water is a little chilly though, 56 degrees.
how many feet is the most shallow part that is good for snorkling? im not a good swimmer and i wear life vest when i snorkle....so the shallower the better...lol
Amazing video! Question - where is this in Crystal Cove? I've been researching the best place for snorkeling in Crystal Cove but haven't got an answer :) thank you!!
Awe inspiring as usual! Love the Harbor Seal clips. Broomtail is wonderful? See many of those there? You forgot to add Walleye Surfperch. Can't tell what that lone small surfperch is at 3:05, any ideas?
That's the only Broomtail we saw. Thanks for the help with the ID on the Walleye Surfperch, I'm not sure about the one at 3:05, if anyone can ID, please post...
@@MrRJCtube Perhaps a Rainbow or Redtail based on the top half coloration and the dorsal fin and anal fin shape? nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=36617&inline -- Great footage, by the way! Have watched this video multiple times!
Part of the key to the footage was significant time in the water. Over the last few months, we had close to 50 hours of water time. My wife was also filming, so some of the footage was hers. We weren’t on SCUBA, which made it easier to get close to a lot of subjects. Laguna Beach is pretty amazing and we’ve had some incredible snorkeling, but keep in mind the video is a compilation of about 50 hours in the water edited into under 8 minutes :)
You’re thinking sea lions but I haven’t seen any attacks underwater. Only seen videos of them attacking on land. I could be wrong on this. The seals in the video are harbor seals and they’re harmless
I do not, plus I'm not very skilled compared to good freedivers. If I can dive down to 15-20' and stay down for anywhere close to 45 seconds or a minute that's good for me :)
I hope that is not a spearfishing rod I see. I wish we could make all coastlines 5 miles out to sea natural preserves...no killing or taking of marinelife allowed.. then maybe our underwater coastlines could start to recover.

Wow! Mesmerizingly beautiful footage! I had no idea there was this much sea life & water clarity in Laguna Beach.

I see the Garibaldi from my surfboard when I'm out at Thaila, but so amazing to see how much fish have come back. Thanks for sharing.
Great shots! I’ve never seen this many fish in Laguna. Those seals look friendly :)
Our dad was a navy diver and when we lived in Laguna we have fresh caught lobster a lot...😊
What specific place in Laguna can i see these amazing animals?

halibut live out very deep waters, but at bottom, I have fished for halibut in alaska and go off shore in speed boat for 1/2 and hour

On a day when the surf is low and conditions are good, you can start snorkeling knee deep and it can be good
@Ramen Lover yes the waves were so strong when i went last month...not a good time to snorkel....i did not enjoy..i only saw orange fish
Amazing video! Question - where is this in Crystal Cove? I've been researching the best place for snorkeling in Crystal Cove but haven't got an answer :) thank you!!

Right by treasure island by the looks of the first bit of vid. But there's plenty other decent spots. Shaw's cove I've seen some cool shit too
Cool Videos ! just Subscribed...
Hi Rick,
Your videos are awesome , I would like to know what kind of Snorkeling Mask you use?
Thanks 😊
I use the same mask I use for SCUBA, an Atomic Aquatics Frameless Mask, but any type of mask that fits your face well without leaking is all you need.
Красива!🧖👍
If i have a Gopro i really want go to diving
Tight vid! Just curious, I'm from Norcal and I use a 7mm wetsuit. Is that too heavy for the waters down there?
7mm should be fine, H20 lately in the mid 60's
Awesome shots! I dive Laguna regularly ! What beach is this ?? Shaws? Treasure island?
I thought Seal might actually be pretty dangerous?

Goood👍👍🤝🤝🤝
Do you teach freediving?

We need to take CaRe of our corals people , lots of corals are dying due to fossil fuels 😞
