    I would NOT recommend copying your Social Security Card. Memorize the number, and hide the original somewhere that you know where to find it if you need it. Making a physical copy just increases your chance of losing it and potentially having your identity stolen. If you scan it and keep the scan on your phone and your phone gets hacked, lost and you don't have a good password, etc. then someone who shouldn't have your SSN has it.
    As for the condom, you shouldn't keep a condom in your wallet because heat actually causes them to expire faster. Plus, they typically have a 2 year expiration (and that's for a good brand condom. Cheap condoms could be worse), so if it's been there 5 years it's probably as safe as not using one at all.
    I personally just keep my driver's license, my car insurance card, medical insurance card for when I go to the doctor or in case I get in an accident and need medical assistance, debit card, credit card, some money, and a few discount cards for stores I frequent often.

      I’m 7 years late to this comment but I agree. I carry my credit card, ID, Military ID, License to Carry, and very few cash I try to keep it to a minimal normally a $20 and a $5. Just keeps my wallet looking Simple but nice.

    Great video, +Real Men Real Style. I realized, I've been having more or less attitude towards wallets. It took me several years to find the best option that works for me. I completely agree that having emergency business cards in the wallet is essential. I've developed a similar practice of always carrying several in my wallet, but I also keep a couple in my car's glove compartment, my business bag and in my laptop bag - just in case.

    Great video, as always. I agree with most everything you said.
    I personally believe the back pocket is useful for one thing-the handkerchief. I carry two handkerchiefs, one in my back pocket folded as a triangle (with the right angle folded back over the hypotenuse) for my own use, and one in a pocket on the inside of my suit to offer to others. The back pocket one hangs out slightly in order to make access easier and to keep the pocket from bulging. It looks fine and is quite practical.

    I carry a very small wallet which fits easily in my front pants pocket. It'll hold 6 cards, which is more than enough. I carry my money in a separate pocket in a money clip. I like the calling card idea as I have never had a need for business cards.

  • @RealMenRealStyle
    @RealMenRealStyle  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @eliotsijmijnck Agreed -- this is a bigger problem in Europe than in the US! I'd keep the wallet/money clip and the change in separate pockets so they aren't clinking against one another, and avoid the temptation to put the coins in one of those zippered pouches that some wallets have. That'll add way more bulk than you want!

    Definitely time for a wallet redux. Personally I've never encountered someone picking my pocket or anyone else getting theirs picked. I heard a story about a guy's Dad getting his pocket picked in France over 10 years ago. But if I do go to an area that I don't feel safe, I put it in the front pocket.

    Not to mention a lot of store credit cards can be pulled up inside the stores. You just need your driver license and/or last 4 digits SSN. So leave those at home.

  • @RealMenRealStyle
    @RealMenRealStyle  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @nitnit182 Same advice as everyone else, really -- you'll maybe have just one or at most two credit cards, plus the usual IDs and a student ID, and probably a lot less cash than you'd like. Can't think of any specific college needs that'd be bulking the wallet out too badly.

    I keep my club & credit cards in a 'Faraday envelope' (RFID / scan resistant sleeve), in both my wallet & car (valet drivers). This is not needed with the newer EAV chip only cards. I don't think it is safe to keep my additional IDs & c.cards in the glove box, so I made a convenient but hidden pocket for them near my seat, where the detailer & valet won't encounter it.

    Id add to consider a newer RFID blocker type wallet or US passport case. Crooks or scammers can "phish" for codes & signals. US passports after 2007 have RFIDs. I agree to clean out or edit your wallet. I carry a lot of stuff including my Soc Security Card but I also use it often. Sam's Club business card, ID, CCW-W license, etc. I do not use a $$$ clip but I can see why some men get them.

    In Sweden cash is outdated. We have them but you literally never need them. Busses don't accept it as payment, street vendors takes card and so on. Even at garage sales and such we use an app called Swish where you connect Swish to your bank and your telephone number so you can give money and recieve money with just your phone. Takes just a few seconds.
    Progress.
