Mountain bikers bump into King Charles in an unbelievable encounter on Balmoral estate

- King Charles stopped and chatted to a group of cyclists who were going for a ride on the Balmoral estate this summer, with the mountain bikers branding the royal 'a very nice man'. The monarch, 74, was hiking alone on his Scottish estate when he passed a group of mountain bikers who were filming their trip for a TH-cam video. Wearing a jacket, flat cap and carrying a walking stick, he stopped and chatted to the group before they told him they were staying on the estate.

What an experience. I don’t care much for monarchy but the fact he was just walking along and stopped to talk like any other normal person.
I totally agree, and I have a different opinion of King Charles now based on how easily he interacted with the cyclists. That had to be quite an unreal experience for them to "bump" into King Charles strolling along a country road. Having it all on video is priceless.
Two of the bikers said after the encounter, “I didn’t want to care, but I do!” lol I wonder if they’re pro independence 😂

This reminds me of the time the Queen was out walking with only her Royal Protection Officer close by, when a couple of American tourists stopped and had a chat. They hadn't realised who she was, but assuming she was a 'local' asked her if she'd 'ever met the Queen?' She replied 'No I haven't - but he has'. They were quite impressed, and I have a vague feeling they asked the Queen if she would take a picture of them - with the RPO.
I've seen that. I was rolling laughing about it. I think she did take a pic of them...IIRC.
That moment when you meet the King of the United Kingdom, Australia, the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu in the middle of the Scottish Highlands
...with no bodyguards, in simple clothes and up for smalltalk.

I have met HRH King Charles on a couple of occasions whilst in the Army & have found him to be one of the easiest people to chat to.
If I could have met one person in my lifetime the Queen was the very top of the list. 🙂

Misunderstood and oft unfairly aligned man.
Mostly due to Diana's successful campaign to garner sympathy by playing the victim. I have always sympathized with Charles for being pressured to marry such an attention-hungry, immature woman.
American and I love King Charles lll, that must have been an amazing encounter for the bikers! I'm sure not many people can say, "I was mountain biking and ran into the King"!! I thank them for sharing this wonderful video with the rest of us!

You can say what you like about monarchy, but the royal family never come across as being particularly unfriendly or even particularly aloof people. There are prominant western leaders right now that are genuinely despicable people, Charles isn't one of them.

I liked seeing him do a very mundane things as walking. Although I'm sure you were all being intently watched, even if from afar. You didn't see security but they were there, for sure.
The security were in the blue tent and cars parked further up the road.

Lot more info out about it now@@ellhyg3532. They've interviewed the biker guy and there's more footage: 3 Ranger Rovers drove by them first and they suspected there might be a "minor royal" around. Surprise of a lifetime when a few minutes later they came upon the most major royal there is! They still keep him quite safe: I'll bet they had telescopes pointing his way.

His mother and father walked the same trails their whole lives and met their people in the same fashion.

What a humble gentleman King Charles is, never mind the stories. Being a royal is as hard as it gets as you’re at the pinnacle of power.

at the end the cyclists says "I take it back" which suggests he had foreknowledge of the encounter and had given an opinion on C3 pre encounter. This looks not a random bump into C3. No way does C3 walk on routes where random public can get close

His security were in the blue tent, he was well protected. But it's still nice he wants to walk around Balmoral and doesn't want a six car convoy. The bothys can be rented by holidaymakers, he probably enjoys meeting them.

"But I like my walking." in response to "So you've been left to walk?" Charles wasn't left to do anything. He decided to walk and the encumbrance of his entourage proceeded otherwise. I'm not a monarchist by any stretch but he remained dignified insofar as he could have said, I'm the King and I have it my way. The cyclists were as relaxed as one could want. Well done all around. "What a nice man." Yes, despite how silly Charles has been, he's no threat on a trail.

If you're not British, you wouldn't understand, the royals, especially KC would think it utterly ridiculous to have a platoon of guards in dark suits following him about on his estate. My aunt lived in a gatehouse to Arundel castle and the Duchess of Norfolk would walk her dogs past the house and stop to chat if she saw my aunt. You would never have known she was a duchess though, in a shabby Barbour, old wellies and a battered hat.
