I honestly think that when belos says, "I don't want to see another human life destroyed by this place," he's talking about Caleb. belos hates the boiling isles because he believes they corrupted his brother, that if they never wound up there, then he wouldn't have had to kill him. he thinks the witches are doing the same with luz, and in his witchhunter way, he still believes he can "save" the only bit of humanity he knows

Caleb was shown to have known flapjack through the witch that introduced the two to the boiling isles. the fandom calls him Caleb because in any sport in a storm, flapjack suggests the name for hunter.
Honestly it's just like luz said, he is so far gone in his delusions of what is right for humanity, that he ultimately sacrificed his own humanity in the literal and metaphorical sense (he killed his brother, someone that loved him and he loved back and never moved on to this day for this ideal, plus the manipulation and desensitised to killing children for his goals) He prob was talking about caleb, he genuinely believes till the end it was caleb that betrayed him defending a witch, just like he thinks luz is betraying humanity defending witches. Despite how terrible he is its oddly sad
20:00 Just realized, he got that symbol from the tower he hatched in. The tower that Lilith said is not on any maps and King said - It's always there when I look for it. It's a hiding spell/glyph/whatever. It doesn't just conceal King, but the entire island and castle that he hatched in.
Did not piece that together at all until you said it. Magical concealment. Or concealment from non-titan magical beings? Since Lilith couldn't see it either. I wonder if there are similarities between King's glyph and Luz's limited invisibility.
The Amphibia reference is cute when we consider Camilla probably heard about the other girl who came from another world and was researching more on it to find out how her daughter could return lol
The amount of power The Collector has is genuinely terrifying. The fact that they're a child who hasn't developed responsibility or empathy yet makes it worse. I fear for King and what "The Owl House Game" will entail. And there's only a couple of days left before we find out.
As a father, I've seen kids have temper tantrums plenty of times. It's hard enough dealing with that, but imagine a child with those kinds of powers having a temper tantrum. You try to get your child to eat their broccoli and suddenly your house is torn apart and moons are all over the place. I think I'll stick to my "boring" human kids, thank you very much!

So my theory on why Belos believes that the Titan was just give Luz the glyphs is due to how they interact with the Boiling Isles. Belos was full of rage and despite doing research never just sat down to enjoy the isles. Luz did the opposite, her curiosity had her find the glyph is small ways. While she found the light glyph from her phone, Belos could have looked at the stars and found it, never did until Luz gave it to him. It is the lesson that Eda gave Luz back in season 1, you got to experience/listen to isle, instead of trying to force it. Belos forced the glyphs to appear to him, Luz allowed the glyphs to appear to her.
The collector's introduction is so well made. The music changing in style so dramatically, the disturbing combination of childlike behavior and extreme power, the way it immediately shifts the entire dynamics of the show. I look at respected shows like The Boys and by the third season they're still returning to a pretty same-ish status quo, and here animated kids shows just up and shuffle all their cards entirely, throwing you for a loop. It's just so impressive

The Collector is both absolutely adorable and absolutely terrifying. While in the human world, they end up needing a blood sacrifice to make a new portal. Luckily, that crazy guy from Vee's episode is available.
Gus absolutely saw Belos’ memories when fighting him. And here’s some more chilling thoughts. All those GG skeletons? Roughly half of them were named “Hunter”. Belos’ sick idea of a joke. He probably burned through them pretty quickly early on, but was forced to slow down when he took over as Emperor. As a traveling masked preacher, no one would realize how quickly he changed assistants, or how eerily similar they were. But once he was emperor, the GGs also were under greater scrutiny. He actually needed individual names and backstories for them, to make it seem like they were rising through the coven ranks naturally and not raise suspicion. But when he made our Hunter, he would have known this would likely be the last one he needed and so used his favorite GG name. And speaking of being a traveling preacher… just how much influence has Belos had on BI culture? When he was preaching in the city on the Knee in Hollow Mind, several of the onlookers were present in Elsewhere & Elsewhen. The journal entry dates E&E to be roughly 1660/1670s, so that’s very early in his time influencing isles culture. How much of what they know about their magic is bullshit made up by him and slowly seeded into the culture over generations until he was finally able to take over 1970-ish? And with him using the mask for his Belos preacher alt, he could also still appear as Philip time to time, until he eventually donates his diary to the Bonesborough library, late enough for Gwen’s g-grandma to have heard of him as Philip. His hair covered his ears in masked form, so he wouldn’t need to cut them until he got closer to taking over and needing to work with the same witches every day. Even once the Collector and Belos are dealt with for good and the isles can start to rebuild… They’re never going to be able to fully restore their history and culture to what it was before he arrived. There’s just not enough left untainted. He really is an f’ing English colonizer.

As is probably obvious by now, the "key" in question isn't the literal key to the portal door. It's something else full of titan blood that Eda randomly brought home years ago: King himself. This is even foreshadowed pretty blatantly in Echoes of the Past with the fact that the door to King's tower is shaped like a keyhole. Having been there from the very beginning, it's honestly kind of wild just how integral King actually is to the overall story and lore of the show. This episode was... kind of upsetting. I really didn't like separating Luz, Eda, and King at the end like that. I understand that the finale is the time to do it, but I'm still unhappy about it. And then we had to wait for five months before we got anything else. The hiatus after S2E10 was longer, but honestly I was more unhappy with this one. Also Kikimora knows King is a titan now. That's worrying. I do agree that the fact that Luz has been family to King is probably the motive behind the Titan helping Luz if that is indeed happening. It's not just because she's good, but because, to his son, she's a big sister. Something I find interesting to think about is that King doesn't really lie or keep secrets. But with the Collector, he does. I'm not entirely sure what to think of that.
Did King lie though? The collector wants to play. The games they are playing are deadly because he is too powerful. The Collector mostly does not want to he alone. Perhaps King will teach him a game that can be played forever...with lots of players. Also if King had left, you could definately say he lied, but choosing to stay (yes the intent was to save Luz) made him keep his promise.

I love that you take the time to analyze Belos and his offer to Luz. He's a villain, but he doesn't hate everyone, just those he believes are truly his enemies. He thinks he's being generous to Luz, and honestly, he is. He's granting her safe passage back home. He just can't understand why she would want to stay. In his words, You can't reason with crazy. He is so far gone that he lived in this place for centuries and not only concluded they were evil, but actively changed things to reflect his view of them. We saw in the past their society was normal, just magical. Less violent and ruthless than it is now. He changed things for the worst.

Belos is the best written antagonist I've seen in a while from Disney The dude came from an era from the 1600's and he was brainwashed and scarred his entire life, and now he thinks he's the hero of the story because he still has the mindset and goal set in mind. Top tier.

The Collector is genuinely terrifying. Yes, they're just a child, and they don't seem to be malicious at all, but the power of a god combined with the unpredictability of a childish mind is so much more dangerous. They remind me of a scene from the Doctor Who episode _The Empty Child_ where a character says, "he's not a monster, he's just a scared little boy who wants his mummy," and the Doctor replies, "there isn't a little boy born who wouldn't tear the world apart to save his mother. And this little boy can."
The collector seems to not realize there are consequences, because honestly for them there isn't if they break something they can just fix it, but for everyone else there are consequences

In one of the memories we see a hand popped from the ground which is most likely of a grimwalker. And the hand is not that small to belong to small child. Most likely its all tweens and teens. And they live for a few years and 'betray' Belos. He kills them and makes the next one changing some tactics of handling them.
One of my favourite things about this episode is belos's fear when he sees the collector his voice wavers noticeably and he backs away, this is one of the best ways to introduce a villain? You take your original villain that has been shown as borderline unstoppable and see the actual mastering chuck them away like nothing it instantly ups the stakes.
I will never stop being angry at Disney for cutting this show short. We could've gotten half a season of fun slice of life adventures in the Human Realm, but no, we just get 45 mins. Also, Mosco have you watched Amphibia? If not, you absolutely should.
The arrogance of Belos assuming that Luz worked out how to create combo glyphs first because something was holding him back but not her, and not that she might just be a faster learner or better problem solver than him.
She also had a Titan give her the information that there were only four glyphs, and every other spell is a combo. It was King who said as much in Escaping Expulsion.
Belos is just a self-proclaimed victim. He hated Isles so it took him longer to find glyphs, unlike Luz who loved Isles so she picked them up much faster. And yet Belos once again shifts the blame 'It was the titan himself who prevented me from finding them'.
Ah yes the finale in which absolutly nothing bad happens ;) Also love how the collector is just a child with god-level powers. Wonder how he is connected to the owl beast. After all we saw how he transformed it into the curse
The Collector's theme is possibly one of the best I've heard. It's impossibly appropriate to their feel, with just the right amount of whimsy and chaos and raw power.
I totally enjoy the theories that Anne from Amphibia has something to do with how Luz will be able to travel back and forth from the boiling isles since Amphibia is considered another world. I think it is a sweet thought that Camila was researching otherworldly travel to help find her daughter. Will they just be theories? Who knows?!?!
Buckle up, Lass! If this episode was a tide then the next one is a tsunami. An angel in a wardrobe, snakes in pajamas, remarkable thesbianism, Hunter eats a spikey pancake, and there's more convention attire than you can shake a staff at. It's got it all and will leave you in tears!~

This final Season 2 episode truly reveals the kind of being Belos/Philip really is. All this talk about "saving humanity from evil", he doesn't have any humanity left in himself. It's too late to convince him that Caleb was happy with the witch he fell for, it's already too late to save him from, well, himself. Same goes for Odalia and Kikimora. They're too far gone in their twisted minds to realize that not only they're hurting so many during the Day of Unity, but also themselves. And by the time they see it, Boiling Isles will already be gone for good.
Fun fact, the original plan for when Belos got splattered into a bunch of goop was for the collector to aim at the kids and everyone dodged except Hunter, who is dying. When they're convincing the collector to play owl house, instead of the little squeal he does Hunter was going to start sobbing!
I feel like I should explain the whole "fake spoiler" thing about Enzo Gabriel: by the time the Collector made their first appearence, face half-revealled and had being clear that they were a spoiled lil' brat, Brazil's fandom nicknamed them Enzo Gabriel. The name Enzo Gabriel is usually atribuated to a ADHD annoing child, and by the time a super popular name for kids that age. After episode 21 droped, a lot of fanart as the Collector in latest brazilian child fashion flooded every social midia. To this day EG is still used as "the Collector's true name" to us brazilians. It fits perfectly the pure chaos that is this tiny creature
YES! I'm so glad you've reached this episode! This season finale is SO well done in my opinion! It shows Belos at his most dangerous/scariest It shows Luz at her smartest The entire episode keeps you on the edge of your seat and the ending is just....it hits so hard! Also, remember when this show was all cute about a little weird girl accidentally getting teleported into a magical world and then being hopeful she'd get to learn magic? And he biggest struggle was not being allowed to go to the Witch school? Yyyeeaahhh...
Belos does make a great villain, especially when you consider that he's a product of his time (witch trial periods). He actually believes he's saving humanity by wiping out all witches, which is why he thinks he's doing the right thing (and yes, his design would make a great Zelda villain). The Collector is a great villain too. I believe he's classified as the chaotic neutral type. He's not malicious, but he enjoys casing chaos for fun and doesn't care how it can harm others.
The Collector is so powerful, honestly they're just a child with lots and lots of power. Depending on how it's used, they can either do good or bad things, and since they're a kid who simply wants to play...well yeah. This episode was a tearjerker near the end and just brought more questions, but lovely reaction to both season 1 and 2 of this unique show!! Can't wait to see what you think of the specials in season 3 and what comes with them!
Fun fact: In the original script when belos went sploosh, his chunks were meant to hit a pillar and everyone was meant to dodge it but hunter, cus he cant really move that much cus he was being literally drained of his life. So he was meant to be covered in his Uncle's monster remains. But it got cut because it was too "dark" or smth. Side personal note: I really wished they focused on how their lives were being drained more on Hunter, because he's a Grimm walker and his body was made from magic so at the least I wish they gave him like little lightning burn scars from the spell.
Something I don't think has been mentioned is that Belos' monster form looks like some depictions of a creature from First Nation legends, one that begins as human and is formed as that human devours the souls of others.

When Belos saw Flapjack and said “Caleb”, that’s important. We learn in the next episode that Caleb was Belos’ son, who was cursed to turn into a palisman by a witch. Which is why Flapjack tries to kill hunter at the end of the next episode, because he was on Belos’ side all along.

The main theory is that the witch Caleb (og Hunter) fell in love with is a Clawthorne ancestor because the few sightings of her we have she looks a lot like Eda. So her kid just became the current Clawthorne line, and Hunter is technically Edas great great great whatever grandfather

Belos was full of rage and despite doing research never just sat down to enjoy the isles. Luz did the opposite, her curiosity had her find the glyph is small ways. While she found the light glyph from her phone, Belos could have looked at the stars and found it, never did until Luz gave it to him. It is the lesson that Eda gave Luz back in season 1, you got to experience/listen to isle, instead of trying to force it. Belos forced the glyphs to appear to him, Luz allowed the glyphs to appear to her.
Fun fact the evening this aired there we’re actually heavy rains in Connecticut. People even showed live footage to prove it it was creepy

The collector's introduction is so well made. The music changing in style so dramatically, the disturbing combination of childlike behavior and extreme power, the way it immediately shifts the entire dynamics of the show. I look at respected shows like The Boys and by the third season they're still returning to a pretty same-ish status quo, and here animated kids shows just up and shuffle all their cards entirely, throwing you for a loop. It's just so impressive

The Collector is both absolutely adorable and absolutely terrifying. While in the human world, they end up needing a blood sacrifice to make a new portal. Luckily, that crazy guy from Vee's episode is available.

And here’s some more chilling thoughts. All those GG skeletons? Roughly half of them were named “Hunter”. Belos’ sick idea of a joke. He probably burned through them pretty quickly early on, but was forced to slow down when he took over as Emperor. As a traveling masked preacher, no one would realize how quickly he changed assistants, or how eerily similar they were. But once he was emperor, the GGs also were under greater scrutiny. He actually needed individual names and backstories for them, to make it seem like they were rising through the coven ranks naturally and not raise suspicion. But when he made our Hunter, he would have known this would likely be the last one he needed and so used his favorite GG name.
And speaking of being a traveling preacher… just how much influence has Belos had on BI culture? When he was preaching in the city on the Knee in Hollow Mind, several of the onlookers were present in Elsewhere & Elsewhen. The journal entry dates E&E to be roughly 1660/1670s, so that’s very early in his time influencing isles culture. How much of what they know about their magic is bullshit made up by him and slowly seeded into the culture over generations until he was finally able to take over 1970-ish? And with him using the mask for his Belos preacher alt, he could also still appear as Philip time to time, until he eventually donates his diary to the Bonesborough library, late enough for Gwen’s g-grandma to have heard of him as Philip. His hair covered his ears in masked form, so he wouldn’t need to cut them until he got closer to taking over and needing to work with the same witches every day.
Even once the Collector and Belos are dealt with for good and the isles can start to rebuild… They’re never going to be able to fully restore their history and culture to what it was before he arrived. There’s just not enough left untainted. He really is an f’ing English colonizer.

As is probably obvious by now, the "key" in question isn't the literal key to the portal door. It's something else full of titan blood that Eda randomly brought home years ago: King himself. This is even foreshadowed pretty blatantly in Echoes of the Past with the fact that the door to King's tower is shaped like a keyhole. Having been there from the very beginning, it's honestly kind of wild just how integral King actually is to the overall story and lore of the show.
This episode was... kind of upsetting. I really didn't like separating Luz, Eda, and King at the end like that. I understand that the finale is the time to do it, but I'm still unhappy about it. And then we had to wait for five months before we got anything else. The hiatus after S2E10 was longer, but honestly I was more unhappy with this one.
Also Kikimora knows King is a titan now. That's worrying.
I do agree that the fact that Luz has been family to King is probably the motive behind the Titan helping Luz if that is indeed happening. It's not just because she's good, but because, to his son, she's a big sister.
Something I find interesting to think about is that King doesn't really lie or keep secrets. But with the Collector, he does. I'm not entirely sure what to think of that.
Did King lie though? The collector wants to play. The games they are playing are deadly because he is too powerful. The Collector mostly does not want to he alone. Perhaps King will teach him a game that can be played forever...with lots of players. Also if King had left, you could definately say he lied, but choosing to stay (yes the intent was to save Luz) made him keep his promise.

The Collector is genuinely terrifying. Yes, they're just a child, and they don't seem to be malicious at all, but the power of a god combined with the unpredictability of a childish mind is so much more dangerous. They remind me of a scene from the Doctor Who episode _The Empty Child_ where a character says, "he's not a monster, he's just a scared little boy who wants his mummy," and the Doctor replies, "there isn't a little boy born who wouldn't tear the world apart to save his mother. And this little boy can."
The collector seems to not realize there are consequences, because honestly for them there isn't if they break something they can just fix it, but for everyone else there are consequences

Each golden guard was only around for 3-6 years, which over about 400 years would make sense for there to be so many shown in this episode.

In one of the memories we see a hand popped from the ground which is most likely of a grimwalker. And the hand is not that small to belong to small child. Most likely its all tweens and teens. And they live for a few years and 'betray' Belos. He kills them and makes the next one changing some tactics of handling them.

One of my favourite things about this episode is belos's fear when he sees the collector his voice wavers noticeably and he backs away, this is one of the best ways to introduce a villain? You take your original villain that has been shown as borderline unstoppable and see the actual mastering chuck them away like nothing it instantly ups the stakes.
I will never stop being angry at Disney for cutting this show short. We could've gotten half a season of fun slice of life adventures in the Human Realm, but no, we just get 45 mins. Also, Mosco have you watched Amphibia? If not, you absolutely should.
unfortunately the plot would have been different if the show got full 3 season. so we don't know what would have even happened in original plot.
The arrogance of Belos assuming that Luz worked out how to create combo glyphs first because something was holding him back but not her, and not that she might just be a faster learner or better problem solver than him.
She also had a Titan give her the information that there were only four glyphs, and every other spell is a combo. It was King who said as much in Escaping Expulsion.
Belos is just a self-proclaimed victim. He hated Isles so it took him longer to find glyphs, unlike Luz who loved Isles so she picked them up much faster. And yet Belos once again shifts the blame 'It was the titan himself who prevented me from finding them'.
Ah yes the finale in which absolutly nothing bad happens ;) Also love how the collector is just a child with god-level powers. Wonder how he is connected to the owl beast. After all we saw how he transformed it into the curse
Belos is alive, only due to magic. His body literally rotted to mush; he's only held together by hatred and enchantment cannibalized from palismans.

The Collector's theme is possibly one of the best I've heard. It's impossibly appropriate to their feel, with just the right amount of whimsy and chaos and raw power.
(At 24:55) Luz seems to forget 2 things:
1) you can't have things "both" ways.
2) you can't expect to save everyone. Least of all, by yourself.

It's one of his most relatable character traits. Tell me if you needed a ball to finish a game of football, you wouldn't grab Kikimora.
I totally enjoy the theories that Anne from Amphibia has something to do with how Luz will be able to travel back and forth from the boiling isles since Amphibia is considered another world. I think it is a sweet thought that Camila was researching otherworldly travel to help find her daughter. Will they just be theories? Who knows?!?!

This final Season 2 episode truly reveals the kind of being Belos/Philip really is. All this talk about "saving humanity from evil", he doesn't have any humanity left in himself. It's too late to convince him that Caleb was happy with the witch he fell for, it's already too late to save him from, well, himself. Same goes for Odalia and Kikimora. They're too far gone in their twisted minds to realize that not only they're hurting so many during the Day of Unity, but also themselves. And by the time they see it, Boiling Isles will already be gone for good.
Fun fact, the original plan for when Belos got splattered into a bunch of goop was for the collector to aim at the kids and everyone dodged except Hunter, who is dying. When they're convincing the collector to play owl house, instead of the little squeal he does Hunter was going to start sobbing!
I feel like I should explain the whole "fake spoiler" thing about Enzo Gabriel: by the time the Collector made their first appearence, face half-revealled and had being clear that they were a spoiled lil' brat, Brazil's fandom nicknamed them Enzo Gabriel. The name Enzo Gabriel is usually atribuated to a ADHD annoing child, and by the time a super popular name for kids that age. After episode 21 droped, a lot of fanart as the Collector in latest brazilian child fashion flooded every social midia. To this day EG is still used as "the Collector's true name" to us brazilians. It fits perfectly the pure chaos that is this tiny creature

Also, remember when this show was all cute about a little weird girl accidentally getting teleported into a magical world and then being hopeful she'd get to learn magic? And he biggest struggle was not being allowed to go to the Witch school? Yyyeeaahhh...
Belos does make a great villain, especially when you consider that he's a product of his time (witch trial periods). He actually believes he's saving humanity by wiping out all witches, which is why he thinks he's doing the right thing (and yes, his design would make a great Zelda villain). The Collector is a great villain too. I believe he's classified as the chaotic neutral type. He's not malicious, but he enjoys casing chaos for fun and doesn't care how it can harm others.
The goodbye kiss to amity from her dad as he stayed behind and fought, that was a little detail that got to me.
The Collector is so powerful, honestly they're just a child with lots and lots of power. Depending on how it's used, they can either do good or bad things, and since they're a kid who simply wants to play...well yeah. This episode was a tearjerker near the end and just brought more questions, but lovely reaction to both season 1 and 2 of this unique show!! Can't wait to see what you think of the specials in season 3 and what comes with them!
The collar king used by King was bought by Eda, but King drew some simbol he saw in "his castle", taht simbol made him invisible to the collector
I love that look Luz gives Belos when he's offering her a way back home it's just a perfect "bitch please" look.
Fun fact: In the original script when belos went sploosh, his chunks were meant to hit a pillar and everyone was meant to dodge it but hunter, cus he cant really move that much cus he was being literally drained of his life. So he was meant to be covered in his Uncle's monster remains. But it got cut because it was too "dark" or smth.
Side personal note: I really wished they focused on how their lives were being drained more on Hunter, because he's a Grimm walker and his body was made from magic so at the least I wish they gave him like little lightning burn scars from the spell.

Something I don't think has been mentioned is that Belos' monster form looks like some depictions of a creature from First Nation legends, one that begins as human and is formed as that human devours the souls of others.

When Belos saw Flapjack and said “Caleb”, that’s important. We learn in the next episode that Caleb was Belos’ son, who was cursed to turn into a palisman by a witch. Which is why Flapjack tries to kill hunter at the end of the next episode, because he was on Belos’ side all along.
Sorry Dragon, but that is not who Caleb really is in relation to Philip AKA Bellos. You're going to find the revelation very interesting. Although if you look back to episode 10 you got a big clear view of who Caleb really is.

The main theory is that the witch Caleb (og Hunter) fell in love with is a Clawthorne ancestor because the few sightings of her we have she looks a lot like Eda. So her kid just became the current Clawthorne line, and Hunter is technically Edas great great great whatever grandfather
