DIY Dumbbell Tree Rack (3 Tier) & Free Plans | The Carpenter's Daughter

- Since lockdown, I've been exercising every weekday morning and treated myself to a set of dumbbells that came with a plastic rack. Now, I LOVE the weights, but the plastic tree is RUBBISH.
So, I'm going to show you how I made a more robust one out of plywood offcuts and structural timber. This project cost me nothing and if you don't have one to draw around, you can download my free template here:

It is the perfect project for everyone whose gym has been closed due to the pandemic. Gets those dumbells off of the floor and organized
Nice project and great reminder. I've kept up my diet and cardio during this lockdown but I've neglected lifting. I'll get some weights, the muscle mass is important to keep. I was lucky enough to get in with my wife's work...she's a first responder here in the US...and was given my first vaccine shot about 2 weeks ago. So far so good! Thanks for posting.
Lifting is something I've never done before - I've tended to do high intensity training instead and must admit, I MUCH prefer weight lifting than star jumps 😂
I highly recommend "Morning Meltdown 100"... I'm on day 81 tomorrow and love it!
Here in Iceland we actually call that blue glu thing "Teachers Gum" so it made me smile when u descrive it as feeling like gum :D
That makes total sense! 😂 I think it's safe to say were all introduced to it at school, to stick our artwork up on the classroom's wall 😀

Lol... well, I was shocked to find a low fat diet wasn't working (nor worth the punishment). But combining a low carb Mediterranean diet with a Beach Body subscription has changed my life. *Loving their Morning Meltdown 100 exercise.
You should be on the telly as your vids are very easy to follow and beat a lot of the daytime rubbish I'm currently forced to pay for. Keep up the good work.
What a great project! I need one of these as I recently moved and expanded my home workout area, and now have room to put up a little rack like this for my dumbbells. I am going to ask my hubby to make it for me :-D

Why didn't you attach the plastic stand side to the plywood and use your flush trim bit on that to get it symmetrical and exact to the original ?
Very good question. 2 reasons.... if it's not set up correctly, I wouldn't want to ruin it. It's still a good template. Also, I think it would be more hassle than it's worth while trying to router around as it's hollow. There would be one upright side to hold the router against, meaning lots of possible tilting. I think it would've driven me insane, so didn't even bother trying.
Fair point. Have you thought about knocking up a quick router table for your trim router ?
I desperately need to sort my workshop out first, as you'll seen soon. It's such a state and haven't got my table saw out yet 2 years after getting it 😂

My versa needed charging every 2 days and it was annoying me so much and didn't use the mp3 function anymore, so asked for this for Christmas and love it :)
Wonderful. Inspire 2 is around 7 days in a single charge.
Did you find your boots full of sawdust after routing?
Just a pinch, so less so with these compared to my steel toe caps 😂

Hopefully these dumbbell companies will realise there's a need for one... or I acquire a CNC machine sooner and start a production line to sell them 😝
This reminds me - one request I had during last lockdown from a customer was for a power-rack. That was a fun build! It was for a woman who wanted to build some serious muscle - good job I'm such a feminist 😂
It's always a shame when a good product comes with a rubbish stand/case/etc but then it wouldn't give us the chance to make things if they did.

Is the makita different or did you just decide to use a Impact for the screws?
Love my battery powered erbauer tools. I also love my makita impact driver - but got a flat battery and couldn't find the charger, so moved on to my einhell one.
Einhell stuff... I'm not sold on, tbh.... it's hit and miss. The impact driver is fine, but their jigsaw is hard to see where you're cutting, their orbital sander seems lacking in power and the battery powdered circular saw, fully charged, does a LOT of stopping. I do love their SDS hammer drill though.

Battery doesn't seem to last long and tools are not that powerful. Multi tool keeps stalling. Thought of erbauer as affordable alternative as can't justify costs of dewalt milwaukee etc for DIY and odd Jobs... Looking for. Sds and erbauer one

The handle area is definitely around 65mm of the smallest dumbbells. Not 65cm. They'd be bloody big dumbbells!
