    Just got mine for Amazon prime day and paid only $430 for it with 5 monthly payments 🥰

      Was that the first version or this one that is 2.0?

      I got one from Amazon also. It’s the version 1.0. I had a Taotronics and it started leaking after a year. I bought the five year warranty on this one. I’ve heard you have to pop the top off periodically to remove mold. But, other than that, it’s great.

    My Brand new Opal 2.0 in the first batch had metal shavings in it, had one in my mouth with the first mouthful of ice. So far after about 6 batches of ice, I let it all melt into a large white bowl and i find metal flakes in the bottom. I also found larger metal fragments in the bottom of the water reservoir. What makes me angrier is I have posted a very objectionable review with no biasing or drama on GE's website and they take it down every time citing it does not meet their guidelines which are, 1. Keep your review focused on the product. (It was all about the product). 2. Avoid writing about customer service (nothing about customer service), 3. Refrain from mentioning competitors or the specific price you paid for the product. (None of this was mentioned). 4. Do not include any personally identifiable information, such as full names. (There was none). GE is censoring me from getting this out there because they know it will cause a shit storm. Please spread the word and check your ice and the bottom of the ice maker.

      😳😳 And they didn't replace it?

      @@DKrier They did, twice. Biggest issue I had was the censorship of my fair and unbiased review.

    Would be awesome if it had an insulated ice bucket so it doesn't melt and turn back on.. but that would be awesome to have

      Yeah I agree

    • @bbbbb7813

      I agree. For the price its rediculous that its not refrigerated.

    • @mikelemoine4267
      @mikelemoine4267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bbbbb7813 I had a bigger under-counter Scotsman that was more than double the price and it wasn't insulated either. I think these would make a solid block of ice if the bin was refrigerated. I took my Gen 1 apart and insulated a lot of the internal parts using automotive sound deadening and self stick foam sound/heat barrier. I surrounded the bin and insulated the heat shields around the compressor (don't put it on the compressor itself or it will overheat). It made it quieter (less loud, anyway) and did make the ice last somewhat longer in the bin. It will still melt down some overnight but overall lasts pretty well. I bit of work but it does make it a little better than the factory intended.

    Hello, so in your opinion the side tank it’s not really necessary?

    • @JustADad
      @JustADad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if you are really using a lot of ice, for one to 4 people this should be fine without the side tank,

    I was excited to see the end results of an ice maker on my counter and the convenience … BUT melting ice and not being deposited in a refrigerated storage, I have changed my mind and disappointed. Looks like more trouble than just buying a bag of ice and keeping it in your freezer.

    • @JustADad
      @JustADad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I thought the same thing I was hoping it would keep the ice cold

    • @kevincaruthers5412
      @kevincaruthers5412 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still bag it and put it in your freezer.
      Just got one today.
      Looking forward to giving it a try.
      I have a bad habit of eating ice. It is bad for my teeth. So I got this for 'softer' ice.
      We'll see how it works.

    Do you need to do the cleaning step with bleach when you first get it? what would happen if you didn't do it?

    • @JustADad
      @JustADad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use my spray hose attachment on my kitchen faucet, it just reaches the reservoir and fills it up quickly, without having to transfer water from a pitcher.

    I bet you can pour in kool aid and it would make great softish flavored ice for hot summer day with the kids. I just bought one of these at auction for $125 bux Super to have as a backup for parties or if you want to save on replacing an old fridge with a broken ice maker.. or you Love french door fridge.. but dont want to bend over for ice. Scooop! filled with ice. no waiting 30 seconds for ice to trickle out.

    At that price the drip tray looks like an afterthought. They could have at least thrown in a stainless steel one.

    Not so happy with mine. Makes really loud noise and not working so well after 7 months. Just cost too much to get less then a year out of it.
    Calling repair man at this point. Hoping it can be fixed. But at this cost I would have gotten a better deal with the $99 ice maker and expect to get a year out of it.
