This kind of stuff is the ONLY thing that takes my mind off of the insanity of this world that has been forced upon us. It's the only thing that makes me feel warm inside. Thank you for making this.

Anyone who chooses the path to enlightenment outside of dogma or traditional religious avenues will at some point uncover this information in one way or another, and there's plenty of information here on TH-cam to fill your head with. However, as much of it as I've seen over the years (I'll be 19 in 2 weeks, I started the journey when I was 12, didn't have a full fluid working model until I was 17 ... 5 years of the most ruthless rigorous searching of knowledge I've ever done) .. Your presentation was among the most grounded and concise. Very well put together, sir. Kudos and props to you, and thank you for the service you're doing the world!

Peter, my son who is 17 participated in his first vipassana meditation last night. He had a wonderful exciting experience, so much so, that tonight when he came home from football practice he asked to do it again, eagerly. Tonight, he listened to your Monroe HSinc CD that you gave to all, at the end of your "Opening to Stillness" course. I, am as equally excited about his eagerness and willingness to participate. NAMASTE!

Peter, just wanted to share my joy on two great feats today. One, I just finished Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason." And, two......After much effort and toil, reading the works of many great minds, endless hours of youtube lectures/meditations have finally discovered the importance/value of "I AM", wept like a baby. I always said....I can smell a ego a mile away but "I AM", me, metaphorical hole-in-the wood, was out of my intellectual awareness. It has been a wonderful day, to say the least. God Bless!

    • @vickiesmith3165
      @vickiesmith3165 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Michael, firstly, I realize that this won't just abruptly make me enlightened, but have to ask anyway... Could you explain in a succinct, plain English sort of way (i.e. no guruesque riddles) what you have discovered to be the importance of I AM? I am on a similar search to yours and have found no answers that don't sound almost deliberately obtuse and evasive. ty in advance for your answer...

    • @plxbull6985
      @plxbull6985 10 ปีที่แล้ว

vickie smith, so sorry it took me so long to reply, for I haven't been here for some time. You asked a profound question and will do my best to answer it; however, would be willing to bet that Christ, Buddha, et al, would say "one must find the answer....on their own".
From an analogous/metaphorical standpoint (I got this from Peter), i.e., "hole in the wood" analogy which purports the difficulty of describing a hole in a piece of wood without using the piece of wood as a relational/relative tool. This metaphor is correlative to the difficulty of describing the quintessential true self without materializing certain human attributes, accolades, empirical data, past events, pseudo knowledge/beliefs; e.g., disguising our true identity........which is awareness/spirit/energy. One, is normally tied up in the mind made story with their perceptions veiled to relative experiences, oblivious/unbeknownst to most that they are merely the observer/participator/witness of thought, that there is no value to thought. One is not their thoughts/beliefs and they don't define who we are. Most equate their identity with their thoughts and their since of self is generated by the mind (giving us a false since of self).
The beauty to having this insight is.......one, doesn't let the SELF look for forms that are not real . And, one then develops the understanding that our own identity is the silent watching of thought (the holy spirit).
The reason for this inherent defect is Darwinian/Reptilian, i.e., the guard of our soul.....the all mighty ego, looking for threats, danger, survival.
Tolle and Adyashanti will help you the most with this. Albeit, Joel Osteen, Christ, and many more have unique insights.

I keep coming back to this talk over and over because there is something here that you can't find most other places. Because of success in my personal dreaming practices and extensive experiences with lucid dreaming, the things Russell is saying strikes a chord in me that rings with a some familiar truth. I don't care what other people say, my belief is that we are in a shared dream making the world around us in some mysterious way that we don't understand yet.

Thank you for replying Mr Russell and yes I did sign up for your classes on your website. I have to say that at this point in my life I really need to get away from all the distractions that humanity has fallen prey to. I am a US Marine and that alone is enough distraction to make me focus on this world as a purely time/space/matter construct. I need a way to reach what is truly real. That has been my quest for a while and is the reason why I found your videos and books.

    Mr. Russell,
Thank you for your work. To me, coming to this outlook (through your work and that of a few others) has been the most rewarding experience of my entire life. I feel so much better now, about the death of my father, and the fact that my relationships with my children, wife and mother cannot last forever.
Please forgive me, if I jump to conclusions and assume this justifies a belief in life after death and/or a deity. To me, this is all consistent with that underlying consciousness.

  • @ogpwr

it's very hard to swallow such an eye-opening truth. how does one live in a "world" that's "make-believe"? ... consciousness is beautiful and innocent, and can be experienced when one is around children who have yet to be soured by the cruelty of others and dissapointmets of life. indeed, this was a great talk.

Ever since early childhood i pondered why there is evil, why there are people who do harm onto other beings..Peter Russell's understanding of consciousness, of love, of self has helped me tremendously in making sense of this. people who lack empathy and consciousness are but a shell, a mirror-studded vessel to be filled with outside stimuli. the game of 'evil' is to use you, overtly or covertly, to fill the vessel and for you to mirror to them their reality.Their all-encompassing, all-devouring ego and will prevents them from connecting with God, with light, with love. It is in the pretense of having that connection that they do so much harm. They willfully refuse to do the work of knowing thyself and instead put all their effort in maintaining the appearance of it.

  • @mandel957

absolutely fantastic speech! I have known for a long time the truth of the consciousness within ourselves and if connected with it , truthfully and honestly it guides you through any and all matters in life. It is a connection to God, the Devine and everything in creation.

Hey Peter :) I think a remake is in stall! My feedback would be to break down the physics at the end. I love physics and did very well in it in school and think myself still v "in to" it but the physics went way too fast for me to follow easily and that's actually where some of the greatest revelations lie. Glad to have found you and looking forward to that remake! :) ;)

Excellent talk. I like the fact that you call it the 'Kantian Revolution' (51:17).
    Some apt quotations:
"I did not grow up in the Kantian tradition, but came to understand the truly valuable which is to be found in his doctrine ... only quite late. It is contained in the sentence: 'The real is not given to us, but put to us (by way of a riddle).'" - Einstein

I do hope it hangs around permanently for all to access, because I've no doubt many other lives are continuing to be changed by it too. Now I am really happy and do really appreciate for his great message as mentioned above lecture.

Absolutely great video. It was a joy to watch it. Basically all things we know from religious, philosophy and science came into one in your talk - very easy to understand, a totally unified view of God/Universe/World/Consciousness/"The I" etc.
Actually from the point of view of the photon the photon/light is everywhere (because can reach every point in space for zero time). It also means for photon the Universe exists for a single moment or equivalently the Universe always exists.

  • @peter-russell
    @peter-russell  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, that is what I was pointing to when I said the knower is not separate from the knowing, there is only the knowing of experience. The idea (or experience) of a separate knower is another appearance in consiousness.

we also have memory. One thing I have noticed in all things, life, matter, energy and even things on the sub-quantum level down to strings and such, is the existence of contructive relationships and destructive forces. Science may or may not have explaination and if they do it's in technical terminology or mathematical equations, but this screams to me CONCIOUSNESS!!! It also tells me that love/constructive relationships and hate/destructive forces, are as fundamental properties as consciousness

very interesting presentation, for me personally anyway. I've always believed that achieving a more fuller explanation of existence requires an understanding of both Science AND Spirituality. You refer to Eastern philosophy, Hindu/Krishna especially, touching on Vedic scripture, but Kabbalah and Buddhism are equally valid in their own way too. And your references to quantum physics, including the photon being a boson,ie both an exchange and virtual particle, is all right up my street. Thanks.

This excellent video asks the most valid question imaginable ‘What is consciousness’, yet the constituent primes into consciousness & therefore the actual definition is not addressed.
It’s said that consciousness is ‘awareness’ or ‘mind’, yet such are the RESULTS of consciousness, which certainly go some way towards it, but are not in themselves definitions.
To understand it, one needs to first appreciate the TWO preeminent forces that antagonistically constitute the result we call consciousness

  • @unclebirdman

At 16:59 Why? We are specialized in the ability to perceive / simulate our environment inside our head to aid our survival. Since we ourselves are part of and interact with that environment it makes sense that we should perceive / simulate ourselves also. Hence self awareness. So that's why.

Semantics. You can call the light 'decomposing atoms' or 'dancing atoms', who cares?

      Magdi Badawy
Consciousness always arises itself materially---gathering composition which it has chosen to suit itself.
[Ordered Consciousness --> Gathered Material = Random Matter --> "Assembled" Consciousness]
At the same time---matter (a mental construct or perception / sensual interpretation) is gathered through natural Laws to "apparently" arise synchronicitically a harmony or system of resonance producing consciousness.
Although it is not quite (entirely) true to say that this harmony only causally forms consciousness..,
the idea of matter PRODUCING consciousness is never a process that can exclude the matter itself with which the consciousness has itself produced (from its materialization constructs / holograph-ordering projections).
Matter producing the consciousness it would have to have assumed (non-consciously) would thus then be a process couched within the orderly consciousness with which it can only take place.
In coming to bound the physical in mental terms (understanding), it is to be done so from processes with inclusion to itself as it relates to what it has to --- the process of order with which things to have made sense would be held without place.

This is DEEP and I like! I've been thinking the same things on my own, just not so articulated. Great lecture.

Until today I'd never heard of Peter Russell... :-( That's my problem. I came to this from a spiritual rather than a scientific perspective, although I'm aware that quantum-physics tends to draw both parties together. For me, this lecture expresses the things that I have always known at my deepest-level. Namaste, Peter

Peter, thank you for this masterfull lecture/talk It wasn't just profound, but also well paced, playful, intelligent and splendidly delivered. Your talk was all about creating space out of matter, simplicity out of complexity. I think this is by far the best way of understanding the inside/outside reality. Light, conciousness and existence are pretty much the same thing. Some may call it love and you know what - it doesn't matter. I would like to frase it this way:" Harmony is god". It is what we crave for, but hardlly ever come to experience in it''s fullest.
Anyhow, this leads to my question. What are your thoughts on self-awereness? Is it the very key to human species evolving from experience oriented animals to inside looking "hippie" creatures? I am just starting to wonder. What or who ever put the consciousness in motion,if we imagine it happened that way, is the most wonderfull and weird figure I've ever heard of.

I think self-awareness in the sense of being aware of being aware emerged with the ability to think (an offshoot of language) and reflect upon our experience. And there then arose the idea of an experiencing self.

I just bought the book "From Science to God" a couple days ago and finished it yesterday and I must say that It opened my eyes to so many possibilities. I think I wanna start my own quest to find God and I mean that in the sense of the real God that is us. I wanna learn to meditate and reach that stillness. With my busy life I don't know if I can devote hours after hours to reach the same quiet that you reached. I will try (not not try) and I know I will get there. Any help will be appreciated.

thank you for this beautiful lecture. Very good.
I just finished (in Dutch) White Hole in Time and Global Brain. Also very interesting. I have seen a lot of videos of Tolle and I read everything of Neale Donald Walsch: so good to see so much similarities and beauty in all of these works! Thank you, greetings from Holland.

I believe that something like this is absolutely right. I also believe (and I don't know how obvious this may seem to however many people) that this is closely related to the concept behind manifesting/prayer... The idea, I think, is that through creative, positive, visualization a person can "align" themselves with a specific series of "frames" such as are referenced by Nexus. You visualize, or pray for, the series of "frames" of a life that looks like the life you want and you align yourself..

I use the word universal not to mean that everyone has access to each other's experiences, but that the faculty of consciousness as such is universal.

This structured field still needs to evolve to reach the stage of human experience. All the discoveries of science still hold. But we have to revise our ideas of what it is the laws apply to. They do not describe the unfolding of matter (which is purely a mental construct) but the unfolding of the field of consciousness.

As an undergraduate in Physics/Maths (1978) I was fascinated with the "Lorentz Transformation" equations in Einstein’s Special Relativity. I believed I understood the concepts, but could not understand why the teachers never wanted to acknowledge that from “lights point of view” the light from the Sun/Stars takes NO TIME to travel its distance. From our perspective off course its ~8m for the Sun & ~4.2 LYears to closest Star. This they acknowledged, but from the other perspective they didn't.
