  • See the top football clubs that have scored the most goals in English Football history 1889-2024.
The bar chart race shows the teams that have scored the most league goals in Division 1 and the premier league 1889-2024.
The founding members of the English football league were Accrington, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Derby County, Everton, Notts County, Preston North End, Stoke, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers. They got a head start on other teams as they have had more years of potentially scoring top flight goals.
Teams that have suffered relegation over the years will drop down the list as only top flight goals are counted!
Everton, Sunderland and Aston Villa are up near the top for decades. However, Liverpool very narrowly claim top spot in both Merseyside and England right at the death and are the all time top goalscorers in English football history.
Many successful teams like Arsenal and Manchester United also feature strongly. Although teams like Manchester City have some way to go due to their many relegations and time in the lower leagues.
Sunderland were front runners for many decades and stay ahead of their Tyne Wear Derby rivals Newcastle United until relatively recently.
Can you spot your team in the video? Which football club will be the all time top goalscorers in England...

I’d love them to make a bigger deal of these all-time records, to put the historical size of these clubs into perspective for younger fans. An all-time points tally as a dynamic piece of art outside Wembley or something, the badges on a sort of race track. Clubs like Everton, Villa, Sunderland etc deserve a little more recognition for what they meant to bygone eras.

@FloatingOnAZephyr I like your art idea! I am more than happy for them to use my videos as the official ones ;-) Just kidding obviously but I'm pleased my videos are being watched anyway, the more they are shared the more people will see the clubs like Everton, Villa etc etc and how well they have done historically.

Well there is more to football than the Premier League.
Still looking back at the clubs that were bigger in the past I would have expected Nothingham Forest to have been higher up than the previously mentioned Teams due to their European Success.
Though Fewer years of greater Success paling in the stats to longer term reliability, well that is good to. I wouldn't be surprised if Athletic Club would be nr 3 on a similar table for Laliga as they've never been relegated.

I’ve seen 3 of these videos now and Arsenal always come out near the top and get up there decades ago. Yet Wenger and his cult following like to believe he built the club into what it is🙄
These also highlight the pedigree of a club like Everton who, until Liverpool started dominating at home and in Europe, were the bigger club on Merseyside.
Anyway, another great video, thank you 👍

@gooner73clark88 Cheers! Pleased you liked the video and yes it is definitely interesting to see that the modern perception of which clubs are the biggest does not necessarily fit with what has happened historically.
