We actually throw our plastic shower liner in the wash machine on cold and hang it back up wet to dry. It cleans the gunk off. I was skeptical but my husband was just like heck with it it's going in lol.

I am in the moving in with my daughter and her family decluttering mode. That means decluttering from 55 years of marriage and raising two daughters so it has been, and still is, a formidable job. I have a lot of decision hurdles to overcome and it frequently comes down to,”What would Dawn do?” and out it goes! All I feel after stuff is gone is relief that I don’t have to deal with it anymore. Thank you for that. It is such a stress reliever and that’s one thing I don’t need more of! Keep up the great work you are doing!

I’ve watched your videos over and over the past few monthes as I’ve tried to declutter the harder stuff. 5 years 4 big garage sales with “second day everything is free and what’s left goes to donation” my house is finally lighter. I hosted a tea brunch for Bible study yesterday and had so much fun prepping for it. Borrowed nearly everything and it was so beautiful! Everyone had such a good time and loved my simple and small home. After loving every minute of washing the borrowed china and tea cups just, relaxing through those thankful minutes, I turned on this you tube video. I just plopped on the couch to hang out with Dawn as my reward. There you were just 2 hours earlier sharing the most precious thoughts with me. When my house is simplified I didn’t have to organize or clean before the party. I could just set up the party and enjoy friends coming over. That’s it. It honestly blew my mind! I called my girls to thank them for their support and shared my ah ha moment. Thank you my dear on-line cheerleader. Now I need to start walking as my reward to hang out with you… step two in my journey☺️

What a blessing for your Mom to have such a loving family! I had my 60th in March and my husband planned a party for me (not my thing! but…) I had family travel to attend and lots of my dear friends… over 70 came😱. It’s very touching when people come to celebrate you. So Happy 65th to your sweet Mama!🎉🎂🥳
I really like the "hotel" liners that are cloth and dry instantly. They can be washed (and I regularly do). I don't have a softener either and have very hard water. They don't cling to your legs when you shower which for some reason worried me, haha. Happy Birthday to your mom!!! I am turning 65 in a couple of weeks and have 4 grandsons very close (including 2 yo identical twins), 4 more grands within an hour, and 1 grandson too far away. I never thought I'd have so many grandsons (8) and one perfect grand daughter and living close to most of them has been the BEST thing ever. I'll bet your mom thinks so too!

Like some of the others here, I wash my shower liner in the washing machine, if it needs it, in some laundry soap and vinegar in warm water. It can sit and soak a while before washing, as well. After each use in the shower, I also spritz the entire shower/curtain with Clean Shower to keep it cleaner between times. And if worse comes to worse, and it doesn't come clean, there are uses for old, plastic shower curtains, such as a drop cloth/furniture cover when painting or spray painting, or even a poncho raincoat for chores around the yard.
It was so sweet of you and your family to give your mom an unforgettable birthday party. She will long remember this with fondness.

We recently moved to a tiny house with ONE bathroom for a family of five! It’s actually pretty great, but our bathroom takes a beating, and I’m super particular about things being clean. That being said - try the Made By Design fabric shower curtain liner from target. It’s survives at least 6 showers a day with well water that contains a lot of iron which turns things orange. I spray it after each shower to help it stay clean and wash it each time I scrub the shower - every few weeks, but it really doesn’t look bad by then even. Washes great, dries fast, comes perfectly clean with a little bleach. Thank you for doing this! I found you searching for a way to deal with kids toys and family gifting and haven’t turned away since! You kicked started our family on an awesome journey (hence, the tiny house) and it’s made all the difference! Take care!
Thank you for this video. It makes me think back to when I was a child, and when we were readying our house for a party. A huge amount of time was spent on cleaning and putting away all the stuff that was out on tables and counters. We would intermix cleaning with cooking, but we never finished cleaning. There were always areas that we did not get to, and the stress of getting the house presentable for a party made it difficult to enjoy the cooking and decorating. It is important to me to enjoy hosting events and to minimize the stress of having guests. Thank you for showing me how this is possible.

I have used a fabric shower liner for years. I HATED the plastic liners. I can throw the fabric liner in the washing machine and dryer and they come out great! Happy Birthday to your mom (I turned 65 in December....time for Medicare!) and Happy Mother's Day to you Dawn!!

In fact, everything looks grand and I’m sure your mother was so appreciative. 🩷 The paint in the bathroom really brightened it up and anytime you’d like some time to think, just run on down here to Missouri! I’ve been wanting to paint ours for several years. 😂 I always just wash our shower curtain liner. I put it in with the towels, so there is something to agitate against it and get more of the “gunk” off. I’m not sure how old this one is, we’ve had it years and years. Hi Dawn, thanks for helping me declutter my home ❤ The fabric shower curtain liners are sold in Walmart (the store brand). They come in white and cream/off-white. You can choose between the bottonhole openings and the metal eyelets. I prefer the botton hole ones. One lasts me upwards of 5 years, I wash them as often as needed and rehang them damp, they dry hanging in the shower. Very eco-friendly, economical, sustainable and easy to care for. I hope you see this cause its 4months after you posted.

Ooo! Recycled bouquets are the best! I worked with ladies who would often have floral deliveries & I'd shamelessly beg for them before they trashed them. We would have a lovely arrangement in the office for much longer although it did keep shrinking as the faded were removed over time 😄
I was amazed watching you paint without taping and masking things first! I’ve never just started painting, I’ll have to give it a try! Though I’ll probably drop paint everywhere!!
Pro tip, keep a damp cloth and a little water bucket near by - tiny drips and spots are super easy to clean up as you go.

Thanks for just how real you are in how much work entertaining represents, and how much joy there is in getting together - but if someone has to both declutter/deep clean AND do party prep each time folks come over, it's usually more bandwidth than most parents of young kids have. Thanks for keeping it real!
I don’t have company over very often, but I used to have to spend the whole day or more cleaning and decluttering, and by the time people came over, I was aching and tired. Now that I’ve simplified my house, I have less to clean, so it takes less time, and I have more time and energy to keep up on the cleaning, rather than putting it off til just before company is coming!

For a shower curtain idea... I like using 100% nylon fabric shower curtains. I don't use a fancy outside second curtain, just a nylon one and make sure it stays tucked inside the tub. It's easy to put into the washer to clean up every week or two. You can even put it back up without drying it in a dryer. Because it will dry on the shower rod just fine. I personally like a white one, but if you look for them, you can find different colors. If you have a clothes line outside, give it some sun and you may be able to keep weird stuff from forming on the bottom edge of the curtain after it's been washed. Enjoyed your video! Hi Dawn! We use a fabric liner that we wash regularly. No more plastic liners for us 😊 we got the idea from hotels, who mostly use fabric liners inside the outer shower curtain.
I like the bathroom makeover. We have two silky fabric shower liners. And they can be washed often. Switch them over when you need to wash one. They wash really well.
My husband and I LOVE the vinegar for faucets trick since we have hard water with lots of calcium. I often put the baggies on overnight and then next morning the faucets are completely clean! Thanks for the inspirational videos!
I just wanted to tell everyone I just made your white chocolate raspberry bundt cake but used strawberry instead of raspberry because it’s what I had. It did rise well just like the last ones and it smells divine! We will cut it tonight with family here for my mom’s surprise seeing a grandson and two great grandchildren.
I buy the heavy duty plastic shower curtain liners from WalMart. When the liner gets scuzzy, it can be thrown in the washer with a load of towels, using liquid detergent for the wash and vinegar in place of fabric softener (vinegar dissolves mineral deposits from the water). Shake the excess water off the liner into the wash tub, and then throw the liner in the dryer (no heat) for about 5 minutes, then hang it back up to dry the rest of the way. Magic! Love your videos! :)

We love Kohls washable light weight fabric shower liners. We hang them with the hem out so the mineral deposits don’t get caught in the hem and the pretty shower curtains on the outside.
They have grommets so they are durable and whenever they need a refresh we launder them on cold with small towels.
Great job!!!! I have a cloth washable shower liner and change it out weekly BEFORE it gets scuzzy. I own 2 and just switch them out when I clean the bathroom once a week. It takes less than 5 minutes and keeps the shower fresh. I hate owning duplicates but this is one exception.
So funny story from yesterday, 5/13! We were having a birthday party for my husband at our house and inviting everyone over, so I was like “alright everyone! Let’s tidy up and clean the house!” BUT, since we had decluttered to our clutter threshold, and been able to easily clean consistently since, when I went to do that last minute cleaning scurry there was no work to do! So instead before guests arrived I spent that cleaning time: organizing our junk drawer, hiding the cords in the master bedroom, and organizing all of our power tools in our basement laundry room. Because of course that makes sense: “Hurry! Guests are coming, we have to make it look like no one lives here! Organize the junk drawer! No one can know we use electricity to charge our smart phones! Hide the cords in the master bedroom!”

Pass the parcel used to be a standard party game when I was a kid in the UK. One variation was to put a slip of paper inside each layer with a "forfeit" written on it. The person who has the parcel in their hands when the music stopped had to carry out the little task before the game continued. This could be something like "recite a nursery rhyme" , "pat your head and rub your tum at the same time", "toss the parcel into the air long enough to clap 3 times before you catch it", "imitate an animal". Adds to the fun and prolongs the length of the game.

Have you ever tried the left, right pass the parcel game?
This involves everyone having a small party bag with a gift inside, maybe a pen, key ring or chocolate. I usually tie mine with a ribbon and sometimes add a little bell tied in the ribbon bow. Then I read out a story with many lefts and rights in it. The story could be easily be made up by the children. As you mention left or right the guests have to pass the bags either left or right. End the story with something like, “well all that’s left for me the say is that we’ve had a right good time and the bag that you’re left with is yours to keep.”

I put my shower curtain/ liner in the washing machine with bleach and launder with my whites, Don't put softer and just drip dry. I don't do the pretty cloth curtain on top because, I want the most light inside the shower/ bath area. Since, we don't go in the bathroom when others are using it. The clear plastic shower curtain is enough.

I started using fabric shower curtain liners! I have two. One is up, one gets washed. As long as you can remember to wash before they get too gross they do great. And even if they have gotten gross, we’ve been able to bleach them.

We love the washable shower liners that are material. I have been able to keep mine for years and it feels so much cleaner when you can wash the mildew off!
Dawn, I had the same shower curtain liner predicament as you. My solution: I purchased 2 of the cloth liners for each shower (like the kind hotels use). One goes on the shower, the other one goes in a bathroom drawer for when I need to pop the dirty one in the wash. So far so good!
Hi Dawn! There is a fabric shower liner that you can use instead of plastic. We have a fabric liner we bought at Target and all you do is wash it and then hang dry it. Super easy!

I buy a good clear or frosted liner to go inside the tub. When it gets a little yucky, I take it down put in the washer with white towels detergent and a splash of bleach and hot water. Once it spins I put all of the wash into the dryer. After 5 plus mins. I open it up, pull out the liner. Clean and clear, no wrinkled up plastic!. Then finish the drying of towels while you rehabg the liner. Mom taught me this.
I bought a white, waterproof, fabric shower curtain liner from Amazon. It looks so much better than a plastic one and it let's in light. I wash it just like a shower curtain. Bleaching it will keep it looking new.

Hi Dawn, I’ve been watching and enjoying your videos for a few years now. Yes, I’ve been using fabric shower liners and they are great. I’ve washed mine many times, so they are always fresh, clean and you’re not throwing them away. I have bought Walmart brands but they didn’t hold up as well as others. Hope that helps.
Our shower curtain has a removable liner that snaps onto the lower 75% of it, the top 25% is opaque. Once a month, we unsnap the liner and wash it with 1 or 2 hand towels on a gentle cycle. I use about 1/3 the amount of detergent that I normally use and 1/4 c bleach. We've had this shower curtain for years and it still looks great.
Dawn, a fabric shower curtain liner!!! Yes, and I’ve always found them at TJmaxx or Home Goods. It will last for years and you can bleach/ wash it and hang wet and it comes out perfect every time !!

You can actually wash your plastic shower liner (unless you buy the super cheapy liners) Put it in the washer with a bunch off towels, it works great!
I love using fabric shower curtain liners 😃🎉... the key to drying them out well (so they don't mold 😕;) is a plastic suction hook 🪝!
Find the MIDDLE of the bottom seam, hook it, and then drop dry 💦
We also use the cloth liners. So easy to throw in the washer.

I love your bedroom, so restful! I haven’t managed it yet but getting there, I have decluttered quite a lot already but there is more to do. I have so many dressers, no wardrobe, but I’m pretty certain I could donate a lot more of my clothes and other bits that have found their way into my space (that shouldn’t be there, paper etc), I believe that I will be able to downsize my storage by 1 dresser and then my bedroom will be so much roomier.

Dawn- I actually toss my plastic liner in the washing machine with bleach. I actually choose a cute textured white-only curtain (swiss dot texture) so I can take down both and toss them together (rings and all) into the wash. It works great! After it runs through the washing machine with bleach, I toss both back up to hang dry on the rod.

Hi Dawn, For the shower curtain liner, I just put it in the washing machine with detergent, 1/2 cup vinegar and hot water. It helps to wash some towels at the same time. Then put it in the dryer on regular heat for just a few minutes to get the wrinkles out and hang it up. Thank you so much for your down-to-earth personality and sharing your very helpful tips. I was also blessed to live near my parents and other supportive family members and not sure i could have survived without their help. Now my family is scattered all over the country and I really miss us all being so close. I dont get to see my grandkids growing up and it breaks my heart.
I wish you had been around when my kids were coming up, it would have made our life so much less hectic!
I wish I had known about your advice years ago and not had the stuff shuffle before the cleaning before the party! The silver lining is I discovered kids -guest kids-LOVE getting to help blow up balloons and decorate the yard, so after I was actually running that late for a party one year and the kids arrived before I got that finished, we did that by popular demand after that. I also found out by accident that toddlers like frozen peas and corn in little treat cups for their party. Don't ask, I just went with it. The parents liked that it wasn't candy and their normally fussy eaters were gobbling vegetables.
Dawn asked about a shower curtain liner. I stopped using them and just use the cloth curtain. It works great! You just need to wash it a little more often.

For the faucet scales, I don’t heat the vinegar but I leave it on all night…everything comes clean in the morning. It’s like magic
We have a cloth shower liner (white from target), and we use "Mold Armor" mold and mildew cleaner to remove discoloring that happens over time. The cleaner makes it look brand new!! And then I machine wash it, and it's nice and clean! Hope you see this and hope it helps!
