I pulled some clothing to take to the consignment store and I have some odds and ends I already loaded in the car to drop off at the thrift store tomorrow. Busy week this week and next but then I really want to get down to doing some serious cleaning/clearing out.
After decluttering from a home to an apartment, I refuse to accumulate unnecessary stuff so I’m always making decisions to prevent clutter. Enjoy your beautiful home.
Marissa, my husband and I just moved, too. We bought our Empty Nest Home. We're unpacking, putting together new and old furniture and getting the house ready for all three of our adult children and 2 grandchildren to come visit! (One lives out of state with her kids and husband, another lives in the UK with her husband and one lives about 50 miles away with her partner.) My husband and I are trying to stop being Messy Pile People. We're making sure we clean the kitchen and breakfast room after every meal, cleaning the floors every week kitchen almost every day in the kitchen, vacuuming twice a week if I can and even vacuuming our furniture so our house is so much cleaner than our old house where we raised our 3 kids and we fell behind on keeping the house as clean as it should have been. When we moved we filled a dumpster with... stuff we didn't need and still spent another year getting rid of things we didn't need, donating, upcycling, recycling, etc. I saw you with your green dry floor and wall Swiffer! I was jealous. Mine was lost in our move. 😔 I have a new Swiffer Power mop and I can use other things on long sticks for dry mopping. (In other words I'm not buying an other green dry floor Swiffer.) The hardest part of trying to keep the new house clean is trying to persuade my husband to take off his shoes when he comes in the house. "I'm going right back out!" That doesn't prevent dirt and heaven knows what from taking a ride on his shoes to mess up the house, though. I keep putting his shoes in the mud room and replacing them with slippers I bought him. It's not working yet, but I'm hoping. You're doing a great job! Keep up the good work.
NEVER give slugs beer, they’ll just keep coming back. They’ll bring peanuts and pretzels. They’ll tell all their friends where the party’s at. Before you know it, they’ll be singing karaoke at all hours of the night.
Just a tip: first clean what's high up that you need a ladder for, then clean below, otherwise dust and dirt will fall down on the already cleaned areas. Also, the best cleaner for real wood cabinets and floors is Murphy soap. And it smells great! I used to buy that pink method cleaner in England and I liked it, but Murphy's soap smells better imo
I've been cleaning houses for 15 years with my grandma who has been cleaning houses her whole adult life. Her trick for wood floors/surfaces is to first clean them, mix warm water with 1 tsp vinegar and 1 tsp dishsoap to remove dirt- and dry with cloth right away, then follow after dry with Murphys Oil then dry again after Murphys. That way the oil doesn't trap the dirt under it resulting in a dull looking wood. Love your new house and how you described your process to us!
I love that you have the old sellers’ info and are on good enough terms that you can message her! They must’ve been so happy to know that their home would be cherished and well taken care of
Aw, thank you, hahaha. My dad loved motorcycles and tattoos, he got me a job with his artist! I worked there for like three years, watching and learning at first, then moved on to tattoos and piercings. ;)
Same!! It’s not like that is just some basic job - that takes talent and real artistry. I want to hear about this and see her work!! That is fascinating!
Thank you for reminding me of a sweet memory - when my son was little he thought the gentleman who vacuumed the common areas of our apartment building was wearing a jet pack. (I might have told him that) Every week the custodian felt like a rock star as he vacuumed while a little boy watched him wide-eyed with awe.
Doing one last sweep of decluttering in my house while watching this and then deep cleaning this upcoming Tuesday. will probably stream friends or gilmore girls then! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Recently it’s been hard for me to get up and be productive, and I always value letting my body rest but you know what they say… a ball at rest stays at rest. videos like yours and caroline winkler help me so much to get motivated to get up and get back to taking care of myself and my home! In general, thank you for the guide on minimalism. I had started watching you back in 2022 and got a huge rush of excitement to declutter. I got rid of so much stuff! Clothes, kitchen stuff, decor around my house, furniture even. It was tough but flash forward to… when i had lost my job a few months into it… i work in property management so i lived where i worked and had 30 days to not only find new employment, but find a roof over my head. Moving was a BREEZE solely because i unintentionally prepared by getting rid of probably 7 trips of stuff to the thrift store. Life can throw some challenges but i was so much more confident that that entire situation was a part of my destiny and after it was all said and done and i had a new job and housing was secured, i couldn’t help but cry thinking how much more difficult that situation would have been had I not decluttered prior. All because of you!!! Thank you so much and i can’t tell you how much i adore you and your videos. You inspire me in so many ways to not only be better with overconsumption not just for myself, but for my future family as well. Much love and blessings to you!!🤍🤍
I LOVED this video! Your new home is beautiful and seems like it will be a wonderful place for your family to make memories and enjoy living in. All the best as you get settled.
I use Murphy oil soap on my cabinets( especially all wood cabinets). It cleans and helps put some moisture back into the wood. I’ve seen WD40 used on wood cabinets. It also adds moisture back into the wood. A little smelly, but it dissipates. I dust down walls regularly. It really makes a difference. I also use a steamer. I really like how it cleans. Like you stated you need additional pads! You are doing great! It’s rewarding work! 😊
Never in my life ever have I watched anything more than 30 minutes long. But I watched your whole video without skipping and full! I cant wait to start my minimalism journey!!!!! Thank you, you have really inspired me to get started and get my life back on track mentally physically! Grateful for these videos. ❤❤
In short, your house is wonderful! Here's to bringing new life to a classic. Hope your family enjoys every day...even the hard work of making it your own. Many happy moments.
Wonderful video Melissa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful home. I totally understand what you were talking about with the different reasons behind why people hold on to clutter. You did such a great job cleaning and organising. You can just move things around if you find a better working spot for them. Blessings, can hardly wait for the next video, (very motivating).
Oooooh I love dumplings, but have never attempted making them myself!!! Not sure if a cooking video is your thing but I would LOVE to see you do a making Chinese dumplings video one day Marissa! 😋
Hi, Marissa. I cleaned along with you today! I really enjoy your channel. Although, I am not a minimalist, your discussions on other videos about breaking away from the constant bombardment of consumerist culture have resonated with me. Thank you for reminding us all to value our family and friends over stuff. I can offer advice on the garden slugs. Beer does work, but it has to be in a container the slugs are able to crawl into. I found Haxnicks Slug-Buster containers at a local garden center. They really work with the beer in the lower portion of the container and the accompanying lid sits on top. Good luck with your garden and enjoy your new home with your family!
Thank you for watching and sharing your tips! Yes, I agree. I think our container was the problem - we were trying to use an old plastic spinach container, but it is a bit high and has a lip on it that I think they would have trouble climbing…will have to experiment with the container for sure 👍
Today I clean the bed, bedside table and windows in our master bedroom. It’s zone 4 of flylady. Good luck with your new home looks really nice so far. For the kitchen cabinets, I recommend washing them out with apple cider vinegar, then placing baking paper on the surfaces (for protection), sprinkling with baking soda and leaving it in for up to 7 days. Then all unpleasant odors etc. should be gone. Greetings from cologne Andy💪🏻
💪 thank you. This was helpful. Trying to declutter 18 years of kids clutter and also my own 40 years of clutter. Six people family, we moved from Germany like you and had a bigger house there. We have a small house now and too much stuff. It’s been really hard but it’s getting done. Thanks for the inspiration.
This kitchen 🥰 so much storage and such warm vibes! We found and bought our own new home in the summer and we're moving in three weeks! Looking forward to putting everything in its new place 😊
Old English Scratch Cover is a great oil for old wood cabinets. It moisturizes and makes any flaws or damage pretty much disappear. It comes in light and dark colors. I use that once a year or so to make the wood look like new again. For in-between cleans I use Therapy Clean Wood Cleaner and Polish, it really makes the wood look revived. I would also recommend never using Murphy Oil Soap on any wood, it leaves a waxy filmy buildup over time that cannot be removed, and creates problems if you ever want to refinish wood that it was used on. I live in a 1950s house with a lot of old wood and have lived and learned!
One trick for your high ledges and also for the top of cabinets: lay newspaper or paper towels on the high surfaces you don't see and when you clean you can easily change them out. Especially in kitchens, the top gets somewhat greasy and mixes with the dust, so it helps a lot having to only change the paper :)
I am a fan of the Method cleaning products! The Grapefruit all-purpose cleaner is a go to for me. They also have a shower spray that can be applied all over the shower as soon as you're done! The actual shower cleaning time is waaaaay less difficult and time consuming by the time you get to it. By far my favourite cleaning product, I actually clean my shower regularly now. 😂
I thoroughly enjoyed whatching this video.. More than enjoyed I can say I've got inspired a lot.. Coz basically I'm from an Indian orthodox family and I can never imagine myself shifting my entire things of kitchen and wardrobe in one day and you nailed it.. !!! All the very best for your new home.. May you fill your new home with lots of joy and laughter and memories.. Excited to see new vlogs this house ❤
💪🏻 we are shifting to a new house by this month end and so we are in the process of decluttering. I love watching your videos while I sort through our stuff. They are pretty helpful ☺️
I really enjoyed watching your video today and wanted more! You have worked wonders in your beautiful new home Sweety. I have taken note of quite a lot of your hints and hacks. Now…. I look forward to seeing your chosen furniture in place. Keep up the good work you guys!…. Be safe and be well. ❤️from Sheron in Toowoomba, Queensland. Australia.🌻
My favorite cleaning spray is to use Branch Basics concentrate. No scent (can add essential oils). one bottle lasts a long time and you can reuse old spray bottles. I like being able to decide the strength of the multi-purposes cleaner (less diluted to tackle bathroom). their website gives recommended ratios too. 💪I am decluttering the guest room. Thanks for a great video to keep me company!
My husband and I also moved around a lot in the past and you do the same trick that I have done for years: leaving the hangers on the clothing and folding them down into the boxes as such. I used dish packs, a wonderful way to move your clothes from one place to another. So, good for you for coming up with a brilliant way, If I should say so myself, to save time by leaving hangers on your clothes.🎽👕
This video is helping me do my chores this morning! Monday is clean the bathroom day at my house. An excellent all-purpose cleaner and disinfectant is Force of Nature! I have been using it exclusively for more than five years, and as a fellow minimalist, I think you will like it too. One cleaner for my whole house, it's the best!
For the curtains, you might be able to get oxiclean and soak the curtains in the solution according to the box directions. Then machine wash them. That’s only if they are machine washable. It works amazing on yellowed fabric!
Yes that cleaner smells so amazing and Method has really good quality spray bottles. After I’m done with the cleaner I just fill the bottle with vinegar and I use it as my all purpose cleaner. Vinegar is fantastic because it leaves no streaks and gets rid of odours. You can use it on all surfaces except marble.
It has been so nice to clean together! I chose a few areas to deep clean in my own home and worked together with you! I will carry on later, soooo nive! Cleaning shared!😊❤
Wow, Marissa! I really enjoyed the marathon-it was just what I needed to get inspired. Now, I feel it's time to tackle the laundry area and make it more functional. I truly wish I could have the same kind of privacy the trees in your space provide. Keep the great content coming!
Thank you so much for your videos!!! I’ve learned so much which as helped me become debt free and establish a 6-month expense account. It’s so liberating!
My version of that was drywall dust. It went onto everywhere and INTO everything! Like inside closed cupboards! It took a while to wash virtually every surface, but BOY was it satisfying when it was done, and the air-quality difference was incredible.
I love this video!! I can't wait to se more videos from your new house! I am slowly decluttering (and trying to minimize some areas of our home) and your videos are very very inspiring. Looking forward to the next one... 🥰
Such an amazing video, I watched it and then had to watch it again because I was so amazed how you kept going and were so thorough. I wish you every happiness living in your new house.
Loved this video! You have motivated me SO MUCH! I am a new wannabe minimalist just getting started 😂 it's been very fun and freeing! Kids rooms look great and I am pretty proud of what I have done so far!
I was so happy to clean with you today. I got some laundry done and put away and sorted some too small clothes out of my son’s drawers. I’m so glad the steam mop worked in the end. I love mine and it does such a good job of cleaning without anything harsh. The natural stone surfaces in the house are so unique. I too am a sucker for little pumpkins. 🎃 Happy Moving day!
Regarding the ikea organiser, I have the same, it has removable middle-walls in the bottom section. You can easily wider the space, I did this for my yerba mate accessories as they are quite long.
Most flooring guys cut the wood outside. I was so sad to see you leave your home in Germany, but this house is beautiful too. Looking forward to see the results. ❤️
It was over 100 degrees most of the days they were working here, it was CRAZY hot!!! Maybe that's why they did it inside? They did all of the cutting inside, for sure.
I finally took the top pieces to two kitchen hutches (that we haven't used in a long time) to the dump this morning! 🎉 It's nice to get some space back in the basement.
What are you cleaning, decluttering, or organizing today? Drop me a 💪emoji and let me know what you're working on this week-LET'S DO THIS!!!
Also, sorry for the late video--I'm sure you understand WHY I wasn't able to post until now, hahaha. 😅
Yay! Excited for your video!
This week's decluttering/organizing projects for me are the living room and my kids rooms.
I pulled some clothing to take to the consignment store and I have some odds and ends I already loaded in the car to drop off at the thrift store tomorrow. Busy week this week and next but then I really want to get down to doing some serious cleaning/clearing out.

Good one - I read this out loud to the entire family and we’re all rolling w/laughter 🤣
@@AtoZenLife That makes me so happy! 🤣💜
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Hilarious 😂
It’s cruel how they die in beer.

Came round find a comment about this. 😊
It looked to me like she was going from top to bottom.
Murphy's Oil Soap is a classic! I can't keep house without it!

I love seeing you move in and set up your house in a thoughtful way.
Thank you ☺️🙏
I love the architecture of your home! So cool!
Thank you 🙏😊
Same!
i think u are the first youtuber in all my years of watching youtube, who has addressed the viewer as " hi Friend" as opposed to the plural. :D
I really want to hear about your past life as a tattoo artist! You are just the coolest 😆
Aw, thank you, hahaha. My dad loved motorcycles and tattoos, he got me a job with his artist! I worked there for like three years, watching and learning at first, then moved on to tattoos and piercings. ;)
I wanna hear about your career as a speech therapist. It was what I had originally gone to college for... a long time ago... I am 66 yr old now...
Where do you order extra steam mop extra pads? Also how do you get them clean? Mine are so stained!!
Same!! It’s not like that is just some basic job - that takes talent and real artistry. I want to hear about this and see her work!! That is fascinating!
Congratulations on your new home! It’s beautiful and has so many cabinets to keep everything in it’s place.
Thank you for reminding me of a sweet memory - when my son was little he thought the gentleman who vacuumed the common areas of our apartment building was wearing a jet pack. I love your kitchen a LOT!!! The wood and the tiles are excellent together!! Plus the green outside the windows - beautiful! 😍
It’s so peaceful 🥹❤️
I think your squirrel is actually a chipmunk. :-) The kitchen is always the most work in a move. Welcome home!
Yes, that was a chipmunk. We had a ton of them at my last house and they were all named Chippy 😅
Oh my gosh, those high ceilings! I'm just picturing cool gallery walls and giant Christmas trees.
Never in my life ever have I watched anything more than 30 minutes long. But I watched your whole video without skipping and full! I cant wait to start my minimalism journey!!!!! Thank you, you have really inspired me to get started and get my life back on track mentally physically! Grateful for these videos. ❤❤
Thanks so much for watching and such kind comments…I’ll be cheering you on in your minimalism journey ❤️🤗

Thank you for letting me know I can declutter bad memories, I had not thought of that before.
This was the most satisfying cleaning and organizing video I could ever ask for. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
What a beautiful home and so well constructed. The wood and stone is awesome 😊
13:55 looveeee your kitchen cabinets!
OMG!!! Method is the best, i absolutely love it!
Incredible! I'm so excited for you and your family. The house is coming together beautifully. Can't wait to see more of this journey.
Thanks so much, Paige, and happy to have you along on the journey. 🤗
Oh my gosh. We are so alike in our approach to unpacking
Btw, it’s the best to vacuum the dust like that. I went through the same and vacuuming the walls worked the best 🤗
Beautiful closets. Beautiful home all around
Oh my gosh! I love the new vacuum! Its giving me Ghostbusters vibes 😂
Right!? 😂
In short, your house is wonderful! Here's to bringing new life to a classic. Hope your family enjoys every day...even the hard work of making it your own. Many happy moments.

What an inspiring, energetic move. Congratulations. 🎉
Now I can go and organize my house!🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️ Thanks for the motivation and inspiration!✨✨✨🌷

Love the parchment paper idea.

I enjoyed the length and content of this video. Really good!
What a great house! Looks so green outside, too.
You all really scored . your home has the most beautiful counters in kitchen and bath. Beautiful sink

For the curtains, you might be able to get oxiclean and soak the curtains in the solution according to the box directions. Then machine wash them. That’s only if they are machine washable. It works amazing on yellowed fabric!
Thank you for sharing the moving process with us!
I use the same all purpose cleaner. It smells sooo good!😊
Yes that cleaner smells so amazing and Method has really good quality spray bottles. After I’m done with the cleaner I just fill the bottle with vinegar and I use it as my all purpose cleaner. Vinegar is fantastic because it leaves no streaks and gets rid of odours. You can use it on all surfaces except marble.
That was a lot of work! But very motivating, thank you! ☺
It has been so nice to clean together! I chose a few areas to deep clean in my own home and worked together with you! I will carry on later, soooo nive! Cleaning shared!😊❤
Congrats on the big move!!!
This is just what I needed x
Wow, Marissa! I really enjoyed the marathon-it was just what I needed to get inspired. Now, I feel it's time to tackle the laundry area and make it more functional. I truly wish I could have the same kind of privacy the trees in your space provide. Keep the great content coming!
Thank you so much for your videos!!! I’ve learned so much which as helped me become debt free and establish a 6-month expense account. It’s so liberating!
That is amazing, Carmen, big virtual high-five 🖐️ to you!
Thanks so much!
I love your new house!❤
Good video! I cleaned along! I always use distilled water in steam mops and other appliances of this type.
Also: I don`t think your husband has a lot of socks. Also: I love Method cleaning sprays. 😊
Such an amazing video, I watched it and then had to watch it again because I was so amazed how you kept going and were so thorough. I wish you every happiness living in your new house.
You are the sweetest, thanks so much Judy and big hugs 🤗 to you!
WELCOME HOME ❤. Enjoyed this video very very much😊
Loved this video!
I love your new house!
Thank you ☺️
Great video. A lot of great tips ❤ love your new floors.
Wow, what a great way to start my Monday! 💪 I’m deep cleaning my bathroom today. 🚽
Good luck! I had to do plenty of that myself. 😂🚽
I needed this motivation!
Regarding the ikea organiser, I have the same, it has removable middle-walls in the bottom section. You can easily wider the space, I did this for my yerba mate accessories as they are quite long.
I love, love, love your home! Thank you so much for sharing.
Congratulations on reclaiming more space!!! 💪😄
Love Mid-century modern 😊
Enjoy your new house!!!!
What a fun video. 😊
Love the pink grapefruit smell and I'm a chicken burrito fan! Great video!
