- This is hands down the most excited I've ever been to record a video!
Today folks, we are riding the one-a-day service over the Swansea District Line - an alternative route between Llanelli and Port Talbot with the most notable aspect being that it completely avoids Swansea. We believe this line has the potential to completely transform transport not only in the north of Swansea, but for the people of West Wales with faster connections to both the capital in Cardiff and London.
A massive thank you to Dad and my youngest brother Christopher for getting involved and a special shout out to my other brother Joe whose camera skills really helped perfect what I hope you'll agree is a great video - it was fantastic fun to film!
As always, many thanks to my good friend and music producer 'Snoood' for exclusive use of his music throughout this video. Go check him out on Spotify!
Tracks used in this video:
Soaking Up The Rays (Intro, SDL Travel)
Warm Vibes (SDL Explained)
Due South (Outro)

Cheers fellas!
Ben I am not sure how old you are but you certainly have the kid in you with enthusiasm that can only be described as infectious, a really great video of lines I remember as a kid myself back in the 1960's.
I don't know if you are aware but there was an intermediate connection between the South Wales Main Line and District Line at the East end of the 924 yard Lon Las Tunnel until the 4th of October 1965, at Lon Las Junction which through off a left hand facing Junction to Skewen Junction on the South Wales Main Line.
If that could be reinstated (It is only a very short length of track) that would allow Main Line Trains to Call at Neath and then get onto the District Line to get to West Wales opening up further potential. The connection was closed to save Signalling costs as it required extra Mechanical Signal Boxes to control both ends of the Junctions, with modern day signalling it would require 4 points and 4 Signals to be added on to Port Talbot Panel to operate it.
The former stations on the District Line from Court Sart Junction were at - Llandarcy, Felin Fran, Llangyfelach, and Pont LLiw to Morlais East Junction which is the start of the District line. Neath Swing Bridge was last opened in the early 1960's, at a time when freight traffic was very heavy on the line with the oil refinery at LLandarcy (to the west of the station) which had a triangular layout, There was the Clydach Mond Nickel works that connection in to the District Line at Felin Fran East Junction just to the West of the station and the freight trafic that was routed from Swansea via Landor Low Level to Felin Fran West Junction and a number of works and sidings at Llangyfelach.
Good luck with your quest to open the District Line Stations, you will need to conduct a feasibility study outlining potential passenger numbers at the places where you think the new stations could be situated with potential revenue income. You will also need to study Passenger and Freight train movements in the area to calculate paths for the trains to run in on all the interconnecting lines as well as the District Line itself.
Excellent video & knowledge of the district line. VG pronunciation. I live in Pontarddulais, hopefully a parkway station at Pentre bridge just after you crossed the estuary. 👏
whoever filmed this did a really good job, you should pay him more
Already given him 100% of what I’ve made from this vid 😬
Station Rd Port Talbot
Closed currently while tunnel works are carried out at Llangyfelach. Your video catches the District Line on its new Signalling system and the old being recovered. The first bit of line you where on through Bynea is actually the LLA Mid Wales line, the District Line (SDI) starts at Grovesend. You also passed over the Vale of Neath Line (VON) and through Jersey North Jinction which leads to Swansea Burrows Sidings. Loads of very interesting history !
Agreed with the bay platform at Port Talbot, one thing which might seem a bit bonkers, but also reinstate the Gwaun-cae-Gurwen, line, which has potential for 3/4 stations along the route. Then obviously the district line stations. Be a good metro system but probably won't ever happen. Good idea to use it for some express services as well.
I do some train clips on that line.
tlw is setting up a network in wales i think those stations will be use and up dated like they done with the valleys lines to cardiff.
I Went to do this last week (12th June) trains are not running via the district, but are doing the Swansea Avoider at Landore Junction
Ben is my brother😊
Joe's joke was the highlight of the video, more of Joe please (and a pay rise for him).
Who’s Joe?
@@benwalker28Joe mama! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@norrbb well done
that Joe guy has got bare jokes 😂
good video but the train service shows how out of touch TFW is with the needs of people, for the transport they need,
Ben you should pay andy and Christopher
