This really feels like a Tigran tune. Not what I'd expect to see Larnnell play, but he absolutely rips it apart - pretty par for the course at this point... He just nails it every time. Good stuff!
I think everything has been written about Larnell's talent, I really liked your chemistry and you, my friend, as a pianist, keyboardist, whatever you want to be called, you are amazing
Yeah ! Even though he's playing a lot of syncopations, it was actually easy to play along to his solo, because he strongly kept in the pocket of that 15/8 riff ! No click needed ;)
Just got tix to see Snarky Puppy in march, absolutely keen to see this man decimate a kit in real life. Love your song too man, gives me GoGoPenguin vibes if they leant into a rock sound😍
As I side note - the song sounds like Iranian mugam Jazz resp. Aziza Mustafa Zadeh. Larnell plays quite some metal drum grooves which makes the song interesting. Also it is not so difficitult to understand that track structure and it gives maximum space for drums.
@@MathieuFiset wtf. Aziza is the QUEEN of Jazz. Uehera is just an update playing with the same band. But I would love to hear "metal" resp. metalcore/progressive metal drums and double bass in Jazz. I am waiting resp. playing that kind of stuff for a long time. And till this day people laugh about this mix of metal and jazz.
It's in "5"...meaning it could be in 5/16 or 5/8 or 5/4...or even in quintuplets, depending on how you count it/feel it and how the drummer plays it :D Personally I see it as 5/8
Hey, it seems obvious that he did not have any lead-sheet. Did I say OBVIOUS ! Why would the pianist instruct him if he had a chart ?! Larnell does not need that type of instruction if he is given a chart... What a comment from an envious... Have you seen him look at the music stand ?!
*Not so much “learned a song” as “was given a basic structure to solo over”. I would consider it “learning a song” IF LARNEL COULD REPEAT THE PARTS HE PLAYED. If not then it was a bad ass solo, which hey, I’m perfectly fine with. It just seems kinda odd to call this learning a song. When it was essentially a jam with a prearranged outro.*
I don’t think people realize the level of difficulty the piano part is 😮💨 That guy’s a MONSTER
Well thank you sir !!
Larnell giving him the 'I learnt this song before it ever existed' eye
It is always amazing how drums can make a song feel completely different
Yep ! I had no idea how he would play that song but I knew it would be great...I wasn't wrong !! ;)
Drummer decides where the emphasis falls. It changes everything.
0:37 this response forecasts everything
if that really is the first time larnell played this, it seems like he nailed the final version first try! i love it!
This was indeed the first time he played it but we did a 2nd take as well. The final version has parts of both takes :) Thanks !
1:11 classic reaction to Larnell Lewis
Yep !! 😂
Love the little metric modulations he just throws in like it’s nothing! Larnell is such a class act
This really feels like a Tigran tune.

I think Larnell is more "rock" than we think of him usually ;) Thanks for comparing it to Tigran ! :)
A true professional! I love how Antoine is just sitting there shaking his head like 😳 hahah
I know ! Haha
Definitely one of my favourite drummers

There’s the pocket, then there’s the entire pants factory. WOW.

My wife is also a pianist. You are definitely throwing down as well! I just scored her a 1970s K. Kawai. Looking forward to it arriving.

I don't know about that artist from Iran but I'll check that out ! Thanks :)

probably personally ^^
@@BeatPOWERvomPowerhof yes I do ! She's amazing ! :)
"👍🏾"
What in the hell just happened… Larnell just out-Larnelled Larnell.
Damn haha, good one !
just sick……
Thanks ;)
can’t say whether that inspires me or makes me wanna quit drums
It should inspire ! :) Do your own thing ;)
Tigran Hamasyan vibes
You didn't have to spend so much time explaining the song to him
I know right ? I should have just started playing !
It turns out there is a god after all...
That's a man who's worth whatever hourly rates he charges 😂
Totally ;) I couldn't disclose his business arrangement with me but I can confirm that he is totally worth whatever he is asking for a session !
C’est cher Larnell Lewis ?
Pas vraiment ;)
Meanwhile me trying to find the time signature…
It's in "5"...meaning it could be in 5/16 or 5/8 or 5/4...or even in quintuplets, depending on how you count it/feel it and how the drummer plays it :D Personally I see it as 5/8
Of course he could learn it! He has the chords right next to him!
Different song :)

I am not even trying to count to that.
It's definitely in "5", but it could be 5/8 or 5/16
You can’t count in 5?
Sorry, this is Larnell’s song now
Just like Chick's Pain is his songs now too
Mike Tyson on bass?
Lol ! I'm gonna tell him that 😂 Charly Yapo is my guy
Very Tool reminiscent
Guilty
5/4
Yep ! Or 5/8 or 5/16, however you feel it ;)
Larnell was the missing piece in your set pieces.
Indeed ! :)
