Born and bred here. Move away in 1979 to join the military. Nice to see the old place. Back in the late 60's early 70's Penistone station had at least 6 if not 8 platforms to cater to all the trains. Still remember the open fires in the waiting rooms! Thanks for the tour!
Thank you very much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video - I do try my best to make the history accessible for all viewers - there's a lot that's interesting about places like Penistone :) I do have to be a bit brave crossing the road too - otherwise we'd often be stuck on the side of the pavement for too long, which isn't as interesting! Thank you very much for watching :)
Good evening! I'd just like to say thank you very very much for over 900 subscribers! TH-cam tells me that there are some special perks to be unlocked for reaching 1,000, so please do subscribe and hopefully we'll be able to get some more stuff for the channel :) In the meantime, enjoy Penistone!
Penistone really is a delightful place - especially on sunnier days than this one here, but even so it has a very distinctive and calming atmosphere on its small streets :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

Thank you for your video and the guided tour. We are planning to visit Penistone next year. My family the Wordsworth's, are descended from Penistone and Silkstone. Can you recommend some local history groups?
It is! I was really surprised by the fact that it's only 10 years old - but it really brings out the history of Penistone :) Thanks for watching - I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
My Mothers Maternal parentage is all from Penistone / Stocksbridge / Hunshelf...... I've used censusbrecords to try and make a family tree , but you really need the grave records aswell, and they're difficult to get. There was a huge mill there , I remember seeing photos, I thinks it's a supermarket parking now......I used to visit often from S Africa via Google maps, but the addresses I had no longer existed. In was born in Huddersfield, where my Mother grew up...... Thanks for the tour, sad it was such a grey day.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - my apologies about the weather, though it's not all too uncommon in this part of Yorkshire as I'm sure you know :) Fascinating to hear about your family heritage from the area too! Thank you so much for watching :)
Thank you so much! I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the walk, there is a lot to be seen in Penistone (and I'm happy to have cleared up the mystery of its infamous name) :) Happy Birthday by the way!
You didn't mention inside the Oenistone paramount cinema that they have a Compton cinema organ, which rises from the floor where they have recitals .They have a bar and put live stage entertainment on.
I hope you enjoyed seeing Penistone from a different perspective - maybe there were some things about it you didn't know before :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!

You have a very enjoyable and accessible narrative style. Much appreciated, alongside your bravery in the face of careless drivers.
