Good evening! And Happy Halloween 🎃 Thank you so much to everybody for helping us reach the milestone of 9,000 subscribers, we're now just 1,000 away from an amazing milestone, and there will be many more new walks to come over the coming months :) This evening, we're going for a walk around the historic capital of Scotland before Edinburgh: Perth! There's so much history to be found in this amazing city, and we barely scratch the surface on this tour of some of central Perth's main sights. I really hope you enjoy the walk!
It certainly is! And the history of Perth and its role in the development of Scotland as a whole really is fascinating to explore :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Oh ! The banks o' the silvery Tay . Wonderful presentation .Could you smell the coffee roasting as you were by the museum on the way to Perth bridge ? A city of contrasts to be sure . The Fergusson Gallery is also very impressive when next you visit .Many thanks for reviving happy memories.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video - Perth is a magnificent city, and I did notice the aroma of morning coffee coming from somewhere in the vicinity of the bridge - lots of people were enjoying a café there :) Thank you very much for watching - I'm delighted that the walk brought back some nice memories of the city for you!
Thank you so much. I was impressed with this walkabout as I am familiar with Perth and some of the history. I lived here as a child in the 1960s and have not been back for 12 years. It is amazing that the old St. Paul's Church still stands, albeit gutted. During this time of limited travel, it was so nice to wander familiar streets once again.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Perth is a magnificent city and I do hope this walk brought back some nice memories for you :) It's incredible to see just how much history lies around every corner in Perth, it's a truly fascinating place to visit!

The place you stood to end the video is only about 10 metres from an otters holt (in the old town lade). I walked over that bridge to work through most of the 1990s and would sometimes seee one hunting there. Not only otters but I would often see a pair of seals just upriver of the bridge. They helped to set me up for the day. BTW Bells Sports Centre on the North Inch was in the Guinness Book of Records for being the largest dome in the UK. Also thanks for the nice tour.
Wow! The otters' holt certainly didn't appear in my research before visiting Perth and making this video - it's amazing the many surprises you can find in this magnificent city, so thank you very much for pointing that and the Sports Centre fact out :) Thank you for watching!
Well done on 9000 subs, and don't thank us. We should be thanking you. These are wonderfully therapeutic 'slow TV', and I love watching these after a long day.

Well done on achieving 9000 subscribers, and well done on another beautiful walk. Loving these walks of yours. Amazing how much History is just sitting around the next corner in every city, town or village you visit. Thanks for another great walk! Cheers!

@@LetsWalkUK If you like tripping the light fantastic, I advise you to not do a video on my birthplace of Blackpool. ;) My grandfolk we’re from Perth, so I got to see the shiny side of the coin quite quickly.
Since I was born in and live in Perth, it's nice to visit and that's about it, there's more to see and do just a few hours drive along the A85 to head to the Highlands and Skye, and the A9 to access the Highlands and Cairngorms.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Perth is a grand city full of captivating history, and a great example of the proud heritage on display in Scotland :)
It's a great city! Once again such a thorough walk. Had no idea of the extent of the CBD. I mention in passing that apart from the traffic in the last few minutes, Perth looked pretty grim.
I spend quite a lot of time in perth and while it’s not the busiest city in the world I’ve never really seen it this quiet, maybe it was a funny time of day?
Perth definitely gets a lot busier from mid afternoon and especially on weekends, so this has to be shot early morning. Bearing in mind however it is a tiny City with only 47k or so population.
You're right - the city certainly does get busy throughout the day, this video was filmed between 9 and 10 in the morning on a weekday, so as another commenter rightly mentioned that's why it was a little quieter on this occasion :)
Perth is only busy in terms of foot traffic during the tourist season. The Highstreet is practically dead unless its a Friday night and folk are out on the drink... Oh aye and the seasonal events like Bonfires night... Cancelled for a second year cause of Covid.
@@Rybo-Senpai Yes, you are right that Covid may be to blame for this barren scene. I believe a town or city depends on its people bringing life to it, not ancient buildings etc. Towns should look to the future, not just the past. I lived in Dunfermline around the millennium and it was probably the same. People out on a Friday and Saturday evening and absolutely dead the rest of the week!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - as you mention it was rather quiet on this occasion, I filmed this walk between around 9 and 10 on a weekday morning back in June, so that's why it might have seemed a bit more tranquil than usual :)
Awesome video. Thanks for all the information. My partner and I are heading for the city tomorrow for a mini-break and to see St Johnstone v Inverness in the play-off match.

Perth has one of the best riverfronts of any major town or city in Britain, its largely free of the modern ugly buildings that blight so many views elsewhere. Beavers and otters can sometimes be seen in the river right where these views were shot.
True, we have two such monstrosities at the Pier Head. They block the view of the three historic buildings when seen side on from The Pump House, Albert Dock. Thank you for the many interesting observations.
Very much so! The view along the Tay in Perth really is magnificent - it's a beautiful city :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!

disappointed you did not show the others side of the South street where once stood a hospital, it later became Worbey’s Home Bakery. The finest bakery in Perth.
Oh no! I'm sorry for missing that out - but thank you very much for pointing it out, it's always great to learn of the countless local landmarks of a great city like Perth :)

Showing the history of the CITY is all very well, but for the residents and visitors you might point out the state of the roads and the horrendous traffic system where most traffic light phasing is designed to frustrate the users and increase traffic pollution in the City! These were all changed from a system that allowed the traffic to flow more freely, giving priority to through traffic! This combined with over pedestrianization and one-way systems makes driving in the City a complete nightmare! Then to cap it all the council has taken to reducing the on-street parking by sticking "Pallet box pot planters" all over the place! It is no wonder that a growing number of small shops (and large ones) have closed and continuing to close! WELCOME TO PERTH THE GHOST TOWN OF SCOTLAND!!!!
Don't forget the slowing of traffic and junction redesigns (police station specifically) to make it safer for the cyclists whom I'll point out 80% of those I've personally encountered are the kind to run red or mount pavement....this is why I avoid the Town, nice to look at... A bitch to drive in... More money spent on city of culture bids than actually making the roads drivable. And when it comes to the roads needing it no two ways about it the council and before you say it both SNP and Conservative are to fault on this one.. Have already spent the money and have to ask for more from the Scottish Government.
