  • Time for some more Spells & Specialists! This time we're joined by self-taught perfumer, Mauricio Garcia. We take a different approach to finding the seed crystal this time around, really focusing in on what draws Mauricio into stories. The end result definitely passed the smell test!

I agree. Swan Song is crazy good. At the end of the 80s, I was at sea (Royal Navy) and went through book after book. This was one that stayed with me.

Swan Song is my favorite novel of all time, and I promise, I am not exaggerating. I have the book on Kindle, Audible, and paper back. And one day, I'll buy the hard copy. I've read the book so many times, I can't count. It has all the elements of what I love about reading - fantasy & magic; an absolutely believeable post-apocalyptic world; beautifully written characters - heroes & villains; and a fantastically written plot carried through from start to end. LOVE IT!

I'm surprised Lovis didn't put up her part 1 on YT. I usually add these to a playlist.

We talked about it. She's actually more interested in shifting away entirely from youtube and focusing on the podcast format. We discussed whether it would be worth putting all four parts up on my channel but I thought that might be too much off-brand content. If you guys disagree, let me know and I can defintely talk with Lovis about handling it some other way!

@@themagicengineer5314 it's your call as you guys need to do what's best for you, but if you decide to put them on your channel, that would be nice. I enjoy having the Playlist option. But only if it works for both of you.

@@themagicengineer5314 Well if there is going to be a podcast I would like a transcript (though I can't find one), as I am hearing impaired. The benefit of TH-cam is most times there is an auto caption feature and with the video I can read lips as well.

I'll be sure to pass that on to Lovis. There might be some ways we can make that happen, though the accuracy might not be great.
Would you prefer to continue getting video versions of all episodes? Or is a slightly janky transcript + audio enough?

@@themagicengineer5314 generally I prefer the video versions, but if that is not possible i can work with a transcript and audio.

Im gonna be honest, the amount of times this man says "like" in single sentence is straining my patience

It's definitely one of my crutch words. Unfortunately, these high-creativity sessions leave most of us stumbling on our crutch words more than we normally would otherwise. Hopefully you were still able to enjoy the episode.
Tip: listening at double speed can make a lot of speech tics and mannerisms less noticable. That's what I do with a lot of audio books and specific youtube channels I follow

@@themagicengineer5314 I was more referring to the perfume guy who seems to be using it multiple times a sentence. I think people need to be more comfortable with silent pondering
