Rache means Revenge translated in german. Just wanted to point out what is obvious to germans but not to the rest of the viewers. Always made no sense to me that his Nickname was the only netrunners nickname that had no defined topic attatched to the meaning. But being a revenger makes absolute sense.

@@jaimestardust8555that’s objectively untrue. Anarchy is merely a process of decision making where, instead of single individuals acting as decision makers, the community group consents by vote for each issue that needs to be addressed, and the most capable individual or group is put in charge of that issue for its duration.
Originally, it was a way for classical communities (specifically Greek) to manage their affairs without intervention from an ‘archon’ or ruler. The word literally means “without rulers”.
It was then re-conceptualised in the 18th century as a way of eliminating the need for an aristocracy as part of the machinery of government, and returning to a more community-led self-deterministic way of running something (a village, factory, farm, ship, whatever).
It’s just a way of organising and running a democracy, not some sinister chaos-state made of cannibalism and mad max cars.

I think it’s more of a testament to say how quickly people, especially Corpos, move on in Night City. Rache Bartmoss was a public enemy because he harassed the Corps. The moment his brain went kaput, the Corps shifted their attention elsewhere. It was the 4th Corporate War, and then the Arasaka Holocaust, and then the Time of the Red, and then the Heyward Expansion, and then the Unification War, and then the Return of Arasaka. Not to mention the numerous gang wars, thefts and takedowns, and elections and assassinations. The moment Bartmoss stopped harassing the Corps was the moment Bartmoss’s presence was last week’s news for the next 50 years. I think that says a lot about Night City, that even celebrities are immediately forgotten in the public eye like toilet paper regardless of your prestige

I think there's the potential for them to tell a truly horrific story here. I didn't realize soul killer was just "out there" at one point lol. Imagine how many souls were ripped into the net who were high level executives with willful but sociopathic traits. Consider a contrast between people augmenting themselves with cybernetic parts and an AI on the net around the time of the great crash. Then after the corruption, an AI mirrors mankind's self augmentation with cyber parts by augmenting it's own cyber parts with pieces carved from human souls. Mr. Blue Eyes could be one such product.

Apparently Rache and Alt were good friends before the Datakrash. Since Rache was already inhabiting the net more then his meatsack it seems probable Alt (who already existed in the net) could have used a variation of Soulkiller to migrate Raches' consciousness to the net before his meatsack decayed. Might be there was some plan to migrate him back to his meatsack (thus the 50 lease extension) that didn't work out.

@@jeffbrownstain I feel like you missed a large plot point of Cyberpunk, the digital consciousness will NEVER be YOU, it is NOT a transfer. It's merely a perfect copy that acts exactly like you, a digital imposter. V never made it into Mikoshi, that's a digital imposter, V never even realized they died when they jacked into Mikoshi until Alt and Johnny tell AI/digital V. YOU die with your meatsack body but everything about you, your personality and knowledge, can live on through a digital copy for the sake of people still alive in *their* meatsacks. That perfect AI copy can inhabit a meatsack body and people will not be able to distinguish the difference, but it will still never be YOU.
Honestly that ending is the worst ending, V dies unceremoniously and is replaced by an AI that basically doesn't know any better. That is why Johnny makes such a big deal about V keeping his body, AI Johnny fully understands that he is just an AI and that the real Johnny Silverhand already had his chance and wasted it back in 2020. AI Johnny understands in some way that this is NOT a continuation of V's life, it is *death* and from that death an AI copy of V will be created; he understands that this is NOT truly a cure to V's situation. He's seen the real Johnny's dead body and has come to terms with being an AI in a way that V doesn't understand.
Long story short YOU can never "come back" this way, your death will be final even if a perfect replica of you can be made afterwards. This is evident in many ways but I feel the most damning evidence would be the Jackie engram. That shows very clearly that the engrams are merely programming, seeing as Jackie's engram was taken AFTER DEATH and is incomplete. I don't think you could partially extract someone's "soul" and especially not after death; soulkiller is clearly a physical process that relies on gathering information from a subject's brain, not a metaphysical process in which someone's Soma is being transposed from physical to digital.

rache's creation of the RABIDS...the Ais that made Cyberspace a hellscape that necessetated the construction of the Blackwall, are a result of bartmoss's collaberation with Alt Cunningham. Sloppier execution, but along the same lines. the Alt AI in original cyberpunk canon is essentially immune to RABIDs...a last gift from bartmoss and why she's doing that "hive mind " thing now to extend that immunity to those she can. Barmoss was brilliant, but not infallible...

You say that Rache’s shattering of the net made things worse but I don’t think so. The old net was one system and whatever group or groups controlled that system essentially controlled everything. The shattering of the net “means that everyone has their own net” which is true. It also means these groups (the corps, gangs, individual runners) will almost always oppose, fight, and undermine each other so, at the very least, there’s options. And even on the off chance that these groups unite or one group gain’s enough power to become dominant Rache already demonstrated how to deal with that. All the code and programs that all these groups are using is still made of ice. All it needs is a good tap. Further still, the remnants of the old net remain. Now ruled by the nearly all-powerful A.I. now commonly referred to as Demons or Daemons. All that would be needed would be for one skilled runner (perhaps even Rache himself?) to open the gates and unleash the Kraken and that carefully constructed ice tower would shatter once more.

    • @Tom_Cruise_Missile
      @Tom_Cruise_Missile ปีที่แล้ว +1

My guy, corpos are one thing, but wild, murderous ai is sooooo much worse. Bartmoss destroyed a whole lot of really useful shit, and killed a lot of people, and look at the world he left in his wake. The corporations suffered for a while sure, but ultimately they seized on the aftermath to become even more powerful. I've never been big on the whole "things suck, let's make things exponentially worse to fuck with the people in charge" mindset though.

The more i learn about any of the characters the less i like them and think they deserve the hellish situation they put themselves in. In the next game if it is about humanity vs AI I'm siding with the robots.

Yes we all love huge buildings, augmentations and neon lights everywhere but the true nature of the genre is showing us where are we going, just dialing it up a bit over the top. And Rache´s story is bound to resonate with anybody who uses internet in 3rd decade of 21st century.

After giving it some thought, there is one person that would for sure know what Bartmoss is doing and who would actually have an interest in keeping him frozen for possible future use.
Yorinobu Arasaka. Think about it. During the events of DataKrash Yorinobu was 25ish and full on anti-system punk who wanted his own father's company to be destroyed.
Yet he was still powerful and wealthy enough to finance such a contract without being traced. For Young Yorinobu Bartmoss would be like a hero.
