this video should be included with the turning kit! absolutely brilliant for a total beginner like me! Subscribed and about to expand my very little knowledge by watching your content.. Thanks again 👍
What a beautiful video, full of tips, especially for beginners, for me, the most comprehensive video on sharpening tools for wood turning. Congratulations Lucas. Big hug from Brazil Said Choucair
Great course on using the Tormek. You have a way of explaining that simplifies the process to give outstanding results. I never thought I would be able to afford, or need a Tormek, but after asking your 5 day course and using your Tormek, I realized how effective and convenient it is to use to sharpen not only all of my turning tools, but knives, chisels and plane blades. Thank you Glenn. Great video.
Brilliant clip on the proper use of Tormek with your signature tools, Glenn. Well done. Looking forward to receiving the gouges and n/r scrapers I ordered.
Glenn - the comment about "making the tool used" is sooooo funny, cause i thought i was the only one who did that!!! I recently bought the Tormek System, after having great difficulty sharpening my tooling. Although it was primarily purchased for the lathe tooling, its great for all the other straight blades as well. Looking at cost comparison - i went down the diamond plate and japanese stone path, and i can honestly say, it would have been cheaper to go straight to the Tormek System.
Thank you, this is a very well done video! Glenn articulates the information in a clear and concise manner, with numerous tips and tricks for both sharpening, and turning.I watched the whole video, and I will return to recap the different sharpening techniques.I just purchased a t8 and I am very grateful for this video.
This was incredibly helpful. I admit I've been struggling a bit with the Tormek gauges and making things repeatable, but this made it all perfectly understandable. Thank you!
Thankyou Glen... I have a knockoff unit but loads of pukka Tormek jigs including a Tormek diamond wheel. I just need to clear access to my Record Power DML620 lathe and get back turning... cheers Paul in the UK
Thank you for your kind words Tim! Glenn is a sharpening and wood turning pro, so we think this video will be very helpful to lots of people with his very pedagogical explanations!
Thank you so much for the most comprehensive video on wet sharpening sharpening I've seen. Although I could never afford a Tormek T8 I'm slowly upgrading my Record Power wg200. I have already purchased the SVD-186R and the TTS100. Next up the SVS-50 . At the moment I'm torn between upgrading to a TS200 or pushing my limited budget to the diamond wheel TF200.
Glenn, can you get the same effect by reshaping or rough grinding the tool on a CBN when before final sharpening on the Tormek ? I have only resharpened on a CBN or white wheel ,and have had good results, I have never fine sharpened or honed as you are demonstrating.
I own the Tormek T-8, but I have heard that the machine would have a longer turn around time when sharpening M42 steel; that is steel with 10% cobalt! Yesterday I purchased the Tradesman Wood Turner grinder set up with 180 grit CR and 600 T8-600 grit wheels. Quiet an investment anyways! I purchases the Tradesman with the Tormek bracket, so the jigs will be universal to both machines. I am planing on using both machines and thereby utilizing the Tormek as a de-burring finishing station. Long story short have you heard of the Tormek having such problems cutting M42 steel?
Hi there! Sorry for the delayed response, and thank you for your kind words. Glenn is a true master teacher! Any light machine oil should do, sewing machine oil is usually a great complement. Stay sharp! /Hugo from Tormek
good tips, but what grit wheel did you use, the 400 or 1000 grit?, also from watching the Tormek video series of sharpening, they say to PRESS on the threaded rod of the support & lock it down FIRST, then the other, it ensures the rod is PARALLELL to the wheel's surface.
The grind stone wears down slowly over time, so the groove would disappear. Also it would affect the sharpening negatively. A sharpie does it just fine until you know by experience you are in the sweet spot :)
@@TormekSharpening I mean the wheels at 6min 33s. Why not just have a line across either printed on or embossed across the two wheels. Seems mad you'd require sharpie for this bit.
Indispensable, should be required watching. 27:20 The top view even gives you a rough idea of how much free space you will need around your sharpening station. Great for when you need to make the most of it in a tiny workshop.
Thanks for your feedback Dave! The marker method is perfect to repeat the existing angle of an edge. It will speed up the sharpening process since a minimal amount of steel needs to be removed. After you have found the right angle using the marker method it works perfectly fine to use the WM-200 AngleMaster to see what angle your edge has 👍 Stay sharp!
Best Tormek instructional video on the internet. Thank you!
Wow, thanks!

Glad to hear Fred! Glenn is a true professional, and he knows the Tormek system just about as good as he knows woodturning
Really great video and instruction. Feel ready to do my turning tools now. Thanks

Likewise, I use a Axminster system (simply couldn’t afford or justify a Tormek system) but only Tormek jigs and accessories
We are happy you find the video usefull. 😀

Really informative to a beginner - thank you

Awesome video, long but worth the time! Stay safe!
Thank you very much for that feedback. 😊
I bought the jig and the tool setter it's absolutely brilliant well worth the money. Can I use it for a roughing gouge? .
That should work fine!
great teacher and I learned a lot. Thank you :)
Glad to hear William! Glenn really makes it so easy :D
Tankiyu farimats gud firi gud cuk guzel bravo good
Thank you Muhamed! :)
Black lines on the tool setter metal wheels should become a feature
Thank you for your feedback. I will forward this to our product development department. 😀

Hi! No there are no such problems. You might be a bit more efficient with the diamond grinding wheel though :) stay sharp!
Great video! Thanks! I can't find the Tormek Oil in my country. Is there any other type of oil one can put on the honing wheel?

Can the SVD-186 jig be used for the spindle roughing gouges?
Hej Albe, yes you have a fingernail shape, the english styled halve round one is harpened with the SVS-50 Multi jig.
I’m quite new to turning. The problem being is yes, it has a guide to the chisel. How do I know what my chisel is to start with?
Has Tormek figured out how to sharpen negative rake carbide tools or tips? The ones from Easywood tools
Thanks!
If you need to add a black sharpie line on the wheels, why not design it so it has a groove so you don't need to?

do you not think it would be a good idea insted of keep saying the 'the marker method and say what the angle should be on the WM200

@@TormekSharpening but my wm-200 has 2 angle gauges on it which one do I use.
