Came back to post again for my Trenchers cause I hear this but I want to know if it’s just me. For those of you that know, Josh had an earlier band called Ramsay Fiction as a teen. The ending portion of the RF track Hideous sounds eerily similar to Turn & Run’s in terms of tone & emotion. I think it might be an unintentional callback.
Idk about all of the songs but I know Josh did a tiktok for Down to You, that so g he said the strings were not real. He intended that song to be unfinished and become a tiktok tune only, no lyrics, but it ended up becoming one of the firsts for this album that he made. Now I'm not sure about this one, on Spotify in the video BG you do see him working with actual musicians. Not sure if that video is from previous albums but it looks like new footage to me so I assume it was this one. So I think this song is a mix of the two. But again I'm not sure, I'm just a fan wholove watching people react to my favorite band.
I'm sure it's a mix of real and artificial strings in the end. Honestly, just the fact that they have any actual strings in this is a huge win in my opinion! I'm glad this was one of your favorites!
So much of their stuff feels like it belongs in a musical. I think that's why I love their music so much - same reason I love some of the more recent Dream Theater records. Not sure if you're super into prog, but if you like the theatrics of Marianas Trench, go give Dream Theater's album "The Astonishing" a shot. As fantastic as Marianas Trench is at using recurring themes and motifs, I think Dream Theater is even better at it.
I'm soooo obsessed with the normal life reprises. I'm a huge theater nerd so reprises are sort of my thing (maybe that's why I love this band so much, with how all their discography connects), and this one just hit the spot so well. The switch between "make a bitter fool of everyone" to "i know that I'm not fooling everyone" is soooo gooooood, specially considering how the album is based off the hero's journey. It really shows so well how the character has changed since the beginning and where they're at in their story just based off that line. I LOVE MUSICAL STORYTELLING!!!!!1
If you're ever in the mood for some musical adventure, if you've never listened to The Astonishing by Dream Theater, I'd love if you'd give it a shot. If you've never heard of DT, they're one of the most famous progressive metal bands in the world, and their keyboardist and guitarist (who are both Juilliard-trained composers and performers) write all of their music. Talk about reprises and motifs - that album is FULL of stuff like that. One of my all-time favorites for sure. Be warned though, the album is like two hours long
Even this being your least favorite among an excellent album overall, coming back to hear your take on this one has been enjoyable, especially given that you get into the musical composition and production end. (My background in that is sparse and mostly as a vocalist, but it's engaging to hear about!)

Probably one of my favorites from the album

Same here. That ending bit is so Fix Ne it hurts and adds so much to this one. It also feels very Masterpiece Theatre II.

Can't wait to see them in November. They put on a great show! Ty for your reaction ❤
I need to see these guys live asap
Favorite from the album I think
This one is so dark. I love the mood. It feels so...musical theatre to me.

@@RueMorgue1841 I'll look them up, thanks!

100% agree with what you said! I'm also a musical theatre person and think that's part of why I love them so much and have for the past 16 years ❤️
It’s ok, I’ll love it for you 🙂
After listening to the album more, I like this one a lot more than I did on my first pass!
