I know there were callbacks to their previous albums on other songs, but that this big callback was in a song called Worlds Collide, and the callback had both MPT3 lyrics and Haven lyrics *chefs kiss*

Even this being your least favorite among an excellent album overall, coming back to hear your take on this one has been enjoyable, especially given that you get into the musical composition and production end. (My background in that is sparse and mostly as a vocalist, but it's engaging to hear about!)

You definitely have to see them live! I've only seen them twice so far (Astoria and Phantoms tours) but I've already got my tickets for their show at the end of the tour when they come back to Vancouver and I can't wait.

That starting synth tone sounds like a steel drum that's been run through a synth processor and cleaned up by rolling back the cutoff filter and washing it in some short decay reverb.

When I first heard this song around the 3:47ish mark I was waiting for "face the music when it's dire". It felt like that was coming....but once they dropped into that masterpiece theatre vibe it was like a throat punch of nostalgia and I got choked upppp. Sooo good!!

Came back to post again for my Trenchers cause I hear this but I want to know if it’s just me. For those of you that know, Josh had an earlier band called Ramsay Fiction as a teen. The ending portion of the RF track Hideous sounds eerily similar to Turn & Run’s in terms of tone & emotion. I think it might be an unintentional callback.

This is currently my favorite song. That's guaranteed to change because it's always mood-dependent, but for now this is it.

This song is just a warm, cozy hug. It feels very tavern song & also sea shanty. By the way, Josh teased how this song at one point had guitar strings & everything, but realized less was more.

Hearing Josh’s voice crack when he says NOBODY’S SAFE is just… unff. There’s part of this one that I was unsure of at first cause it felt too similar to the last two tracks, but it’s so fun.

Loved it, even with all the pausing. Especially the explanation of what's happening with the synths.

This wa ssoooo good. Honestly, I love all their albums a lot, I know I've said Astoria is my favorite sound-wise, but it's so hard to pick a favorite. Still, Ever After comes as a very close second but from a storytelling point of view, the way that album comes together is just beautiful to me (toy soldiers being my favorite, the character building in that song is exquisite). WHEN I HEARD the Ever After melody I think I lost it just as much as you did honestly, it took me entirely by surprise and i think it brought tears to my eyes. I loved how this album created such a story with all it's songs and all the songs themselves are so full of emotion. And once again, all the reprises to a normal life, there's something so beautiful to me about the lines "who's to say what makes a normal?" and "extra ordinary normal". It's so... Inspiring to me, I don't know. I loved this album so much and it is definitely high up there with the rest. Again I speak of favorites but I adore their whole discography and hold it very close to me regardless, any difference in faves is minimal lol I think my single gripe with this song is the final "murder on the eyes"... it felt a little underwhelming when I was expecting him to go high instead of low, but they're the musicians, not me so I'll trust their decision lol Sorry for yapping so much throughout all the videos, I think my mouth got loose more and more as the videos went on lol I probably have so much more to say but I can't remember even half of it, I'm still struggling to put everything I feel with every song into words. Thank you for making these! I really enjoying watching all of them and your thoughts on each song. I'm nowhere near a musician, so a lot of things might go over my head or i don't know terminology, but everything you say is always so interesting even if I cannot comprehend bits of it. Anyways RAAAAAHHH I LOVE MARIANAS TRENCH AND I LOVE HAVEN!!!!!

Also one of my favorites (can you tell I loved Astoria?). Honestly, I was expecting another ballad. Usually second to last songs are ballads, so when I saw that Nights Like these was track 11 and not 12, I thought it would also be like Astoria with two ballads at the end, BUT THEN THE SYNTH CAME IN AND I WAS ENTIRELY BLOWN AWAY. It was NOOOT what I was expecting at AALLL. I am so happy with this song, it's so good. I swear my jaw hit the floor as soon as the song started and threw every single expectation I had out the window, god I love these guys. Can't remember if I teared up or not listening to this one honestly. Forgot to mention I did for nights like these. I cried a lot listening to this album.

I said this in another video, i can't even remember which one, but usually their ballads are my least favorite just because I tend to like faster tempos, and i was a bit worried since they posted the first like 15 minutes of this song on their Instagram just like- a few days ago before release, and I was like hmm, unsure if I'll really like this but this actually has to be one of my favorite ballads of theirs ever. I love the "oh na na"s along the song. Idk why but sung notes like that always get me, I was so pleasantly surprised by it when I was expecting it to be my least favorite.

THE SCREAM GOT ME LMAO. Yeah, I remember Josh posting a video of him screaming the "if I burNOOOOUUT" and "you're BEATIFUULL" into a mic and I BEGGED the gods that it was for the album, so I lost it when I actually heard it in, mixed with the cross my heart in there. MPT3 is one of my favorites ever, so I was over the moon hearing it again. This song is spectacular. Saw a tweet just today about Josh saying this was a sort of... third big piece, like the opener/closer (also sort of like Masterpiece Theater). He needed it for the 'big final showdown' before the reward and final act, and he definitely nailed it. I adore this song.

I haven't started the video yet, but I am really looking forward to seeing the MPT3 reaction!! lol

I'm soooo obsessed with the normal life reprises. I'm a huge theater nerd so reprises are sort of my thing (maybe that's why I love this band so much, with how all their discography connects), and this one just hit the spot so well. The switch between "make a bitter fool of everyone" to "i know that I'm not fooling everyone" is soooo gooooood, specially considering how the album is based off the hero's journey. It really shows so well how the character has changed since the beginning and where they're at in their story just based off that line. I LOVE MUSICAL STORYTELLING!!!!!1

You know, I wasn't entirely sold on this one at first. I'm a high-tempo person so their ballads tend to be my least favorite (still adore them obviously), but I thought this was going to be one of them, but once the actual song began to build up I couldn't help but love it. The song feels so... symphonic? Sort of reminds me of Miles and Miles from the his solo album, and I don't know... It just hit right. Very emotional.

This is probably one of my favorites, probably because Astoria is my favorite album sound-wise, but, god, I kid you not, I started tearing up when I first listened to it. It was so similar to it, specifically Yesterday like you said, that I just couldn't hold back my emotions while listening to it, it was great. Obsessed with this song.

I'm only halfway through the video rn but hearing you freakout over the Astoria reference knowing that Ancient History and Remember Me By are coming up..... oh boy, I'm looking forward to seeing your reaction of those lol
