The Great Clive lloyd who scored 102 off just 82 balls...just imagine in those days ODI was just introduced and scoring century with less number of balls is something extraordinary...

I saw Clive Lloyd in his later stage - but heard about him so much of his batting but witnessing the iconic performance, what an excellent innings and excellent innings - century in world cup final as a captain - does any one get this kind of blessings often. Live you windies for ever and respect the fight of Australia ever.
I watched every ball of this match (aged 9) and what a wonderful match it was. The West Indies fielding, with all those run outs was probably the difference between two fine teams on the day. I remembered Viv Richards playing a large part in the victory but had forgotten that it was with his superb fielding. On watching it again, two of the things that struck me were that it was incredible to get nearly 120 overs in a day, and also that it was just before the West Indies quartet of out and out pace bowlers came on the scene, with just Andy Roberts (and no Garner, Croft or Holding at this stage). I remember that, by the following hot summer of 1976, they had the four quick bowlers that caused England so many problems. I wonder how many youngsters will be rivetted by next summer's World Cup, just as I was back in 1975? Only those from families that can afford Sky television (or tickets for matches) for a start. Very sad that the EWCB sold out to the highest bidder several years ago, as it must narrow their potential audience. I feel that Sky will only appeal to those that are already interested in the game. I really miss watching cricket on television, but I will never pay for Sky on principle (Murdoch). I am so glad that I grew up with cricket in the 1970s.
Actually not quite correct, in terms of your personnel. Holding was indeed just around the corner, but Croft and Garner didn't make their debuts until 1977. Wayne Daniel (very fast but a little wayward at times) was their other regular seamer in '76 but he only played ten tests in all. Marshall played his first game in 1978. For me, the truly great 'four' were Marshall, Garner, Croft and Holding who bowled together from the late 70's - what a fearsome four that was.
I was 10 and watched every ball tuning in early that Saturday morning. The game finished near 9pm. I split the webbing between my fingers wicket keeping in school earlier in the tournament, I required 3 stitches in my left hand. when I arrived home I was surprised too see my dad at home still in his pyjamas with a drink in his hand and a big smile watching the Pakistan v West Indies group game Andy Roberts and Dereyk Murray added 63 for the last wicket to win the game. Watching this game sweet memories come flooding back...this game is possibly the only time IVA Richards ever failed with the bat on the big ocassion......he sure made up for it in the field....classic cricket
Great show by both teams. Lloyd, Richards and Chappelli fab to watch. Uncluttered with tactics and overrates. Free flowing hooks, drives, pulls and bowlers banging em in.
The joy of the crowd is like the joy of kids playing in a playground, cricket has never been the same, you see more crowds, you hear loud noises, but passion for the game is great, now it's all about money and pride rather than passion.
Not true. Cricket is much better now, just that West indies and Pakistan are shit. Amateurish set up of fielders back then. but not now, unless you're Nigeria.
I remember this final and the Lords staff saying ,beforehand that the ground held about 28 thousand people and they had received about 2 hundred and 30 thousand ticket applications. They were begging people to stay away ,if they did not have a ticket.1975 was a good year for cricket as it was a sunny summer and the two "terror" bowlers Thomson and Lillee, were touring. This final had Andy Roberts as well who was at the time bowling as fast as anyone, apart ,perhaps from Thommo.

You could argue this was the greatest cricket match of all-time. Of course it isn’t. There can’t be one game greater than the others. However, it is wonderful. Clive Lloyd’s hundred, Viv Richard’s fielding and Lillee and Thomson batting at the death. All of it brilliant.
Remember the time well. I knew run-outs played a big part, but not for FOUR of the wickets. Richards was as incredible in the field as with the bat. The spectators were wild back then. Had it been the Windies pace quartet of later, the match would have finished after 10pm. India famously hadn't got to grips with ODIs (bizarrely, considering the amount they play now). only west indian players were fond of the pull shot ... .barring a few other players like Ian Botham... highly risky considering the fact they didnt wear helmets
No lots of great hookers back in those days...Chappell brothers, Ian Redpath, Dougy Walters, Kim Hughes as well as the West Indians especially Viv who never wore a helmet! The difference was they knew which ones to hit and which ones to leave. Ian Chappell always said the helmet left players in two minds and the split second doubt got them into trouble.
The old way of playing the pull shot, and the text book way, was to swivel your front foot round, plant it firmly and then pull the ball. I actually played it like that successfully throughout my career and in my view it's still the best way to do it for club cricketers against the slower bowling you get in local leagues because it is fairly easy to control the shot, as your body is nice and still and balanced. The West Indies were the first cricketers to throw that out of the window and start swivelling on one leg. It was impossible to control the shot as well, but it did allow them to play it against fast bowling, and to deliveries that weren't all that short. Nowadays, players actually play the pull in a similar fashion to this Windies style as a matter of course. With the modern game demanding faster scoring rates even in test matches, the slightly higher risk factor is ignored.
great match australia fought tooth and nail even though they lost their fielding let down by two dropped catches of Lloyd and vivian fielding made the difference so no way westindies won comfortably kangaroos the kings winning 5 world cups
CL was a huge fella. dont think the bouncers reached even his shoulders. no wonder man can pull and hook so fiercely that it gives him a six, without helmet of course (CL started wearing helmet towards the end of his career but Viv did not, CLs poor eyesight the was the cause of it) . Just thinking how they would be feeling when Ind defeated Eng and reached Finals of 83 WC. They must have thought it will be like stealing candy from a baby. Over confidence and taking things for granted cost them that WC. They took it lightly, a bit too lightly and next thing they saw that most of the top order batsmen are back in the pavilion.
There was a real fashion for it in the 1970s. Admittedly this is more of a special case because up until this point in history West Indies had not been a big success do the excitement of the crowd is understandable.

क्या जमाना था वो भी
great match australia fought tooth and nail even though they lost their fielding let down by two dropped catches of Lloyd and vivian fielding made the difference so no way westindies won comfortably kangaroos the kings winning 5 world cups
Loved the way crowd came jumping and running to the field

I'm glad the problem of people running into the ground is solved now.
Silube
that was the best part, it's peoples victory
There was a real fashion for it in the 1970s. Admittedly this is more of a special case because up until this point in history West Indies had not been a big success do the excitement of the crowd is understandable.
West Indies was instrumental
