Oh my gosh I watched " the Landlady" video and was thinking about requesting this one. I'm not surprised you already made it! Lovely vid, and I absolutely love your voice.
The accent, it sounds so natural. Oh my god. REALLY good. Thanks for this, hope there are more of these to come. This was damn good, and immersive as well.
I say this, as a British chap, born and raised. Your accent is seriously, LIKE SERIOUSLY good! Its really easy for an American to go too trill or tooo British. Trying to sound like a member of Downton Abbey or Upstairs Downstairs. But this was done really well... (and in fact, your accent here, is better than about 70% of British people i've met in day to day life). I guess what i'm trying to say is... If in the not too distant future, if you decide to do a British accent, i will be the last person to complain. :D
Ah, man. That is super, super sweet. Thank you! I just started working on it, so I hope it will be better for the role-play. Both I'll try to navigate around sounding like Lady Mary ;)
Springbok ASMR Its really good! And also if, i were to direct an American to a great American turned British accent i would have to be Bridget Jones. Her accent is impeccably British! Not to posh, not too common. I think Lady Mary is a bit too posh for a fully authentic British accent. :D
Oh my gosh, this is fantastic! This is my favorite Poe short story (well...tied for favorite with "The Fall of the House of Usher"), and you do the accent quite well! Well done!
Loved the accent, loved the sound effects, loved your voice as always. Your wisdom and creativity, your dedication, and your genuine positive nature are all why you're my favorite ASMRtist. I look forward to all your future videos! :D
I've listened to this numerous times and it still lulls me to sleep...absolutely one of the best of all time reading videos. Too bad it has been marred by commercials.
I'm glad you feel that way. I always used to tell scary stories to my siblings around the campfire until my dad inevitably yelled at us to get to sleep :)
If the story on Halloween is anything like this then I can't wait :) would never think you're just putting this accent on for a story as you have it spot on :)
I listened to this video in sixth grade to fall asleep and it was just required reading for my ninth grade English class and I happened to come upon it again! Such an amazing story and amazing interpretation!
I was just starting to nod off and then Fortunato cackled. That woke me up quickly! Fantastic video, and nice accent! You have a knack for them, it would seem.
Once again, Nicole, brilliant. It's especially difficult to affect a voice for as long as you did here. Very well done, indeed!! Still loving your channel!
This is really good, Springbok! I read this in English a couple of weeks ago, but this made me get more of a feel for the story. I love me some Poe, especially during Halloween!
Thank-you for the new story! These are great! The accent sounds good to me :D oh yah the audio sounds nice and loud (since ppl have been commenting about it)
YES! You're the best, Spring! This was a Poe-fect reading, of one of my favourite stories. :) I love your literary side. Is it wrong, that I read Poe stories for laughs? When I was 15 I read tell-tale heart and couldn't stop chuckling at how melodramatic the narrator was.
Your story is wonderful. I listened to your story when I went to bed last night. I felt like you were just behind me. Lol. Thank you for uploading this great video.
Man, i subscribed to you for asmr, then at school we have to read and take notes on this story, and now I see it on your channel... THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE (:
That's an impressive accent! Very convincing on the whole as an upper-crust/old world English lady - for a moment I forgot I was listening to Springbok!
This was absolutely brilliant! Another fine performance by our dear Springbok. I would be utterly pleased if you could recommended me of some more quality material by Edgar Allan Poe (I must say I'm really liking his short terror stories). My dearest regards, farewell!
This was one of my favorite stories in high school. I had an EAP obsession for a while and I was thrilled when it showed up in one of our literature books :)
Before I knew what ASMR was, I used to listen to late night horror programmes on the radio and, despite the content, found them strangely relaxing. I guess some of it must have been in the delivery - quiet, deceptively calming, often whispered for effect. Whatever it was, you absolutely nail that same delivery with these stories and I love it :) Have you considered adding more sounds effects, radio-play style? It works really well in binaural 3D. Anyways, very glad I subbed - your uploads are awesome :) x
Thank you, Graham! I definitely will consider more production in the future. I secretly always wanted to be a foley artist and I love little sound effects :)
i haven't heard this story in while and it is still as scary as i remember. Your delivery of this story was perfect, and you should definitely think about becoming a voice actor or professional narrator.
Very odd. Video played via Hyper for TH-cam on Win 8.1 plays audio very slow. Almost robotic. Anyone else using Hyper have the same problem with this video? Never happened before...
This really took me back to 9th grade... I can't believe I suddenly remembered having class discussion on the word "absconded." Anyway I loved it and the accent made it feel more like a bedtime story!
The story, the audio quality, the accent, GAH. The tingles... :D Strange how the reading of such tales could be so effective in relaxing listeners. Do you know Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl? That'd be a great one as well. ^_^
Haha, I remember reading this story (Great Illustrated Classic Edition) after checking it out from my elementary school library in third grade. Was absolutely mesmerized by Poe's storytelling and dark, brooding nature of his writing style (albeit it was 3rd grade; damn near understood none of it!)
Thank you so, so much, Spring! I get chills listening to you read. These are by far my fave videos. I hope everything is going terrific in your life! ^_^ ~Jakey
Your spooky storytelling skills are really quite magnificent :) Have you considered doing a Lovecraft story? You're very expressive in your reading and I reckon you'll do it justice. Lovecraft can get a little bit verbose at times but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing with horror. With some dodgy accents it might even enhance the reading ;)
Despite having a love of most things dark and macabre, I am not very well-acquainted with Poe's work, so this is nice. Being a birdwatcher, I did see two ravens the other day, (a relatively rare bird in my area) which was exciting. Do you like horror films? You should do a video wherein you discuss your top 5! Your accent was better than Keanu and Winona's in Bram Stoker's Dracula. :)
I like the sound of the accent, but keep thinking why a British accent when reading Poe?? He was American! But that's OK it sounds nice and pretty authentic, I used to work with a bunch of Brits.
BTW I got back results of a DNA test today and to my surprise I'm 67% "British/Irish". So I'm one of you gd limeys myself, turns out. So I've started saying "whilst" and inserting u's in words where they don't belong.
Very well done. Loved the London accent. BTW did you see the 1944 film The Canterville Ghost with Charles Laughton based on the Oscar Wilde story? It took the bricked-in theme and ran with it. Check it out.
My girlfriend's daughter was just exposed to Poe. She was quite shaken by the Tell-Tale Heart. I told her to wait until she reads The Cask of Amontillado or The Masque of the Red Death. I'm tempted to have her listen to this on Halloween, but it might be too much for her.
as an englishman i can say your accent is good - sounds natural and neither over-done nor under-done, as many americans seem to think we talk like the queen and i've only ever met one guy who actually does. and i hate him.
JillyMae89 ha, nah :P i mean i get that the south speaks a little differently to everywhere else but i cant tell much of a difference between, say west and east coast xD
I would say that this accent is rather good you do slip your consonants once in a while but very professional, only few Americans can boast the ability to perform a British accent, I like the upper class undertones reminds me off my mother, very well done and very much enjoyed the video I do like Poe xx
Very relaxing. Is it just me or has the audio in your last few videos been a wee bit too low? I usually have to crank up the volume on your vids specifically.
Please use headphones up in here!
Ha, just had to read this for English class at college.
Loved the "dodgy" accent.
Why have I memorized this tale...

Ah, man. That is super, super sweet. Thank you!

Springbok ASMR
Its really good!
And also if, i were to direct an American to a great American turned British accent i would have to be Bridget Jones. Her accent is impeccably British!
Not to posh, not too common. I think Lady Mary is a bit too posh for a fully authentic British accent. :D
Springbok ASMR As a Scot, I was convinced the English had invaded and taken over my last safe haven! Thankfully not the case... yet...!
you can never be too trill
That thirst.
It wasn't exactly Basil Rathbone, m8.
I love getting to hear different pieces of literature that I wouldn't otherwise get to and o course I love ASMR! So this made my Day!!!
I love sharing my favorite stories, so it's win, win :D
The accent is beautiful. Great job. It really adds to the story. Really, really enjoyable, Spring!
I've listened to this numerous times and it still lulls me to sleep...absolutely one of the best of all time reading videos. Too bad it has been marred by commercials.
Instant addition to my favorites list! Love the story and you made it ten times better.
I have to admit that the accent made this familiar piece immeasurably more enjoyable! Thank you for a great video as usual.
I listen to a lot of audio books of the classics and your read has easily surpassed them. Great job!
Perfect timing as usual, thanks for making another scary story video, think it's something that brings us all back to hearing scary stories as a child
I'm glad you feel that way. I always used to tell scary stories to my siblings around the campfire until my dad inevitably yelled at us to get to sleep :)
If the story on Halloween is anything like this then I can't wait :) would never think you're just putting this accent on for a story as you have it spot on :)
This is so cool! I couldn't sleep and was in a Halloween mood tonight and just happened upon your video. Thanks for posting this!
Omg literally so excited about this video. Two of my loves in one, Poe and ASMR. Thank you!!
I listened to this video in sixth grade to fall asleep and it was just required reading for my ninth grade English class and I happened to come upon it again! Such an amazing story and amazing interpretation!
This is hands down amazing!! I hope you do more of this.
I was just starting to nod off and then Fortunato cackled. That woke me up quickly!
Fantastic video, and nice accent! You have a knack for them, it would seem.
I think you do a better posh English accent than I could!
Awesome accent! I enjoy doing a lot of accents as I am looking into voice acting as a career. Also awesome story! Once again, you're awesome!!
Once again, Nicole, brilliant. It's especially difficult to affect a voice for as long as you did here. Very well done, indeed!! Still loving your channel!
The Cask of Amontillado was always my favorite Poe story. ^_^ you did a great job with this!
One of my favorite short stories ever.
I love Poe and I love the accent!! Keep up the great work!! I really appreciate everything you do 😊
This was fantastic! You're great at the accent. Thanks, Spring!
I have a test on this tomorrow morning and I was told to re-read. Now I just listen while I fall asleep! Thank you so much
This remains among the leading ASMR soft-spoken readings. I hope you'll consider doing another in the near future.
Springbok.. just wonderful. I love the sound effects you added too!
Your voice is lovely as always. And a great classic that is perfect for the season, too.
Aw yis, No one celebrates Halloween here but spooky stories are still neat. Great video, as per usual. Amazing Binaural audio by the way!
My favorite poe story, done super well! You're the friggin man.
My favorite Poe tale. I love you for this!
My favorite too! There are so many good ones, but I like the comedy in this one. His narrators are his very best characters, I think.
I take it back, you already included SFX :D This is like my perfect ASMR recording, thank you! x
This is really good, Springbok! I read this in English a couple of weeks ago, but this made me get more of a feel for the story. I love me some Poe, especially during Halloween!
Thanks, Faith! I hope you have a wonderful Halloween
It's like having Lara Croft read me a spooky story :D
Oh man, I've actually thought of doing a TR role-play at some point. I loved the newest game so much.
Springbok ASMR DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT
Springbok ASMR Please do!!!!!
Yes!!! I was waiting for another one of these :) you read the best stories. Please make more!!
The audio is rather soft on this one, no?
I really enjoyed the accent in this video. Happy Halloween!
Great reading! I love Edgar Allan Poe's work. Really enjoyed studying him and his writings in school.
This was wonderful, as are all your video's. Keep up the wonderful, amazing work! :)
I adore this video and you to unspeakable amounts. One of my favourite Poe stories.
I love this story! Even better when you read it this is amazing!
Thank-you for the new story! These are great! The accent sounds good to me :D oh yah the audio sounds nice and loud (since ppl have been commenting about it)
Very well read. Great job! This is amazingly comforting as well.
Hands down one of my favorite Poe stories! Thank you!
That laugh at the end is freaking awesome!!
I was almost asleep when he started laughing.
You have the best voice in the ASMR community and it isn't even close.
Such an awesome idea!! ASMR book reading!! Poe is such a great choice. Do more!!
I'm really enjoying these scary story ASMR sessions! You should do The Raven next!
Your story is wonderful. I listened to your story when I went to bed last night. I felt like you were just behind me. Lol. Thank you for uploading this great video.
I personally can't say I'm a fan of poetry, but I love your work, even your "dodgy accents"!
Man, i subscribed to you for asmr, then at school we have to read and take notes on this story, and now I see it on your channel... THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE (:
Same here!
That's an impressive accent! Very convincing on the whole as an upper-crust/old world English lady - for a moment I forgot I was listening to Springbok!
I was falling asleep and that laugh scared the shit out of me.
Nice one Spring! You put on a really good faux english accent. :] and nice story Poe is awesome.
This is my favorite Edgar Allan Poe short story!
I love this type of video! So great, thank you!
Your voice + style is so beautiful! :) Please may you maybe make a few more of these?
This was absolutely brilliant! Another fine performance by our dear Springbok. I would be utterly pleased if you could recommended me of some more quality material by Edgar Allan Poe (I must say I'm really liking his short terror stories). My dearest regards, farewell!
This is one of the greatest readings of any literature, ever
Poe's best story, without a doubt. The ultimate revenge! Thanks for posting.
One of my favorite stories, fantastic reading!
Love this! I feel like I'm listening to the old radio shows! x)
This was one of my favorite stories in high school. I had an EAP obsession for a while and I was thrilled when it showed up in one of our literature books :)

Thank you, Graham! I definitely will consider more production in the future. I secretly always wanted to be a foley artist and I love little sound effects :)
Thank you for more of your greatness at storytelling. you are really quite good.
That accent is exceptional, I had this on while working and I really thought it was one of my fellow brits reading it.
i haven't heard this story in while and it is still as scary as i remember. Your delivery of this story was perfect, and you should definitely think about becoming a voice actor or professional narrator.
God rest the man's soul , recognized for his masterpieces, but didn't live to see it be enjoyed by the masses .
Awesome! Really, really well done- I love Poe. Do some more.
Another scary story!
You're the best :)
You do such an amazing job in all your reading videos. Your voice is purrrrrfect * ____ *
I read and studied this story earlier this year for English...love it! :)
This is awesome, great accent!
Loved it. Sounded like a BBC reporter in the 50's! Very old fashioned Received Pronunciation.
The story, the audio quality, the accent, GAH. The tingles... :D Strange how the reading of such tales could be so effective in relaxing listeners. Do you know Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl? That'd be a great one as well. ^_^
The kindness, the hair, the racoon shirt! The Mikala
I had to read this 2 days before you posted it
This makes me happy, more Poe please, sweet accent I might add
Thank you so, so much, Spring! I get chills listening to you read. These are by far my fave videos.
I hope everything is going terrific in your life! ^_^
~Jakey
Hi, Jakey Jakers! Things are terrific, and I hope they are likewise for you
"Yes, yes...a mason." I replied.
Fantastic.
I love your storytelling! more more more!!
I remember this from high school. That was wonderful!
yay! my favourite Poe story! Masque of red death is marvellous too.
Your spooky storytelling skills are really quite magnificent :) Have you considered doing a Lovecraft story? You're very expressive in your reading and I reckon you'll do it justice. Lovecraft can get a little bit verbose at times but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing with horror. With some dodgy accents it might even enhance the reading ;)
thanks for this :) i have to read this for english, but it's much easier for me this way. also, happy 6 year anniversary of the video tomorrow :)
Thumbs up from a London boy on the accent. It's very good :)
Despite having a love of most things dark and macabre, I am not very well-acquainted with Poe's work, so this is nice. Tom Clark I've never known anyone take offence at the term 'Brits' before :/
I don't mind being called a Yank LOL
BTW I got back results of a DNA test today and to my surprise I'm 67% "British/Irish". So I'm one of you gd limeys myself, turns out. So I've started saying "whilst" and inserting u's in words where they don't belong.
Hardly necessary, but I think that's the first time in the history of the Internet that anyone has done that!!!!!!!
Yes, he was American and the story is set in Italy. As my description says, the accent is practice for an unrelated role play :)
Loving my story times with springbok, and as an Englet nice accent though it does go wild at times! x
Very well done. Loved the London accent. BTW did you see the 1944 film The Canterville Ghost with Charles Laughton based on the Oscar Wilde story? It took the bricked-in theme and ran with it. Check it out.

I hate him too. You can tell him I said so ;)
And thank you very much!
JillyMae89 ha, nah :P i mean i get that the south speaks a little differently to everywhere else but i cant tell much of a difference between, say west and east coast xD
Springbok ASMR you're welcome! and for obvious reasons, i dont talk to him. at all. ever. so i wont have to!
Goodness, I wish you’d come back and make some videos again.
This was the first story of my English class this year, very interesting, unique, and intense.
I would say that this accent is rather good you do slip your consonants once in a while but very professional, only few Americans can boast the ability to perform a British accent, I like the upper class undertones reminds me off my mother, very well done and very much enjoyed the video I do like Poe xx
