+mel b I'll answer that. personally I think it holds up incredibly well. the controls feel very fluid and responsive and they make sense for the game. (like you wont encounter some weird controls like press triangle to jump). with that said there are a few minor areas of the game that feel a bit dated. the opening is super long, though you can skip it. it has gibberish voice acting (think animal crossing) and some (once again very few) dungeons/sequences can feel a bit gimmicky. the combat, music, story, and characters are all top notch and still are amazing to play today. definitely buy this game! It's only $20 so it's not like you have much to lose
I remember my mum bought this for me when I was a freshman in hs , because she knew I like art and Japanese folklore , the entire experience was breathtaking. And one of the highlights of my earlier years, I will never forget after you beat the main story and the soundtrack and #artbook were unlocked , so many hours !!
I'm playing this for the first time on the Switch and this is easily one of those few games that deserve a 10. You wouldn't even notice that this came out in 2006. The music, graphics, story and gameplay have aged so flawlessly it's amazing.
I mean, this was an accurate statement: "'The PlayStation 2 exclusive Okami' was awarded the game of the year back in 2006." The game wasn't released on Wii until 2008, so, at the time of the 2006 review, it was still a PlayStation 2 exclusive. The phrasing could have been better, but it is not incorrect in its overall meaning.
Such a beautiful, engaging game that has aged really well. More so than many other games from the same time. It's a game that I feel perhaps deserves to be in the 'Play before you die' list of games, it's really well worth the time and money.
The PS2-version was in 4:3, that's why there's the option. - But 16:9 is the new 4:3 if you ask me. After having 21:9, 16:9 feels way too "square", and I'd almost buy Okami on PC for that. But it is what it is.
MicHaeL MonStaR I don’t think you actually understood what he meant lol. The structure of that phrase doesn’t make any sense, comparing fps to resolution
Star Lux I highly recommend it it is an absolute classic I have played through it 3 or 4 times and have just as much fun every time there are lots of things to collect
mel b nah it's your own personal problems, not everyone gonna complain like you just because older games don't have western AAA quality graphics, hell most people playing older games don't care that much about graphics
Okami has aged pretty well, both graphically and mechanically. I had just as much fun with this version as I did when I first played the game on PS2. Good game design never goes out of style!
I remember back then buying this game just cause I was bored, found out it was a masterpiece, who would've known that several years later it's still a unique, one of a kind game. You wont find a game like this, but they seriously need to make a sequel.
honestly the switch might be the best place for it. Not as a technical point or being the best way to play it but the game is closer to the type of game the main switch owner likes. People buy nintendo consoles and do like 3rd party support but they're not as interested in things like FIFA, COD etc they all sell much less on the system due to the type of gamers that own the console Okami being similar to the Zelda style would have a significant amount of sales compared to the Xbox One and *maybe* PS4 (mainly due to large difference in systems sold)
Hell yes! I'd be so up for rebuying it for the Switch. (I own it on PS2 and PS4, and I have Okamiden for the DS). Just completed the PS4 HD remaster earlier today actually!
I originally played Okami on Wii (with motion controls for the paintbrush that worked well) so I think it would work well on Switch, especially if they give touchscreen controls as an option
Ah... Amaterasu. Origin of all that is good and mother to us all... having never forgotten you, I, dragonjek, have long awaited the day when we could once again meet.
I love okami so much, such a great game! I remember going all the way through it during a 3 day weekend back when I was like 14...one of the few games I'd give 10/10 to.
I never played it and i just bought that remaster. I can safely say, after finishing the first big portion of the game, that this is one of the best game i played this year.
Played and finished the game on PS3 last year, for the first time in my life. Before that i had only heard tons of people praising it... Now i agree, it's one of the most beautiful gaming experiences ever made.
I got this game on ps4 having never played the original on ps2 or any other remakes. I have played for a couple of hours and seems good so far but the graphics are so blurry it hurts my eyes. Is that how they have meant to be? I looked up on google and many other people have the same problem.
I have the original release, loved it. Only problem is the 'rolling ball up hill' puzzle. I was so annoyed that I left it and just completed the game. Sooo glad this now as multi-platform releases! It makes me wonder if it was this way before would it have would better.
I guess it's time for Capcom to bring back an Onimusha saga collection in HD. Than, I think they should remaster or reboot the saga. Very nice games...
Easily in my top 10, possibly in my top 5, games of all time. Artstyle and music are exceptional. I think it's high time they made a sequel to it instead of constantly re-releasing the original
Benny Indrasmoro while Okamiden was a good game, it's nowhere as good as this tho. And they will need to rework the game entirely for a single screen lol.
Loved it back then in 2006 on the PS2, one of my all time favorites, no Zelda game ever managed to deliver what this game did. Okami > Every single Zelda out there. To me at least.
Can anyone confirm whether brush stroke input is controlled via the sticks or the touch pad??? I played a little bit of the game recently on PlayStation 2 and drawing the constellations with the sticks was wonky and difficult
Definitely would of loved to see a Switch version of this. Would be pretty cool to see if they added touch screen control when undocked since those worked really well with Okamiden. But yeah, for those who missed out, definitely give this game a look.
Does that mean Zelda games and Okami are for kindergarteners too, since Zelda games are exclusively on Nintendo consoles, and Okami was heavily inspired by Zelda?
The slow text speed in cutscenes is the only gripe I have with the game. It is one of the most gorgeous games I’ve ever played though so I’ll deal with it.
I never actually had a chance to get into Okami because I never really used my PS2 plus it got lost and I was more into the GameCube(best of the main systems of that generation in my opinion) and Xbox, and my PS3 was stolen and I never got a new one so I didn't get to experience a lot of classic games that were released on those systems but now I have a PS4 so HD remasters like this will help me experience these games finally
Wait, does any version of Okami run at 60fps? He mentioned this one only runs at 30 so I'm wondering if an older version (namely PS3) has and if it's worth getting for that over the 4k visuals that I assume won't translate on a normal PS4 anyway.
I think the only way to get the game at 60fps is through emulation....I think. I also think that this is the same version where the did something to the end credits, like remove it. I'm hoping this is just the exact same version as the original PS2 release. Like with the 'canvas' background and full original credits.
Well that's fine, I didn't NEED the game to be at 60fps, just thought if there was a version that did it it might be the one to get (since the review decided to make it clear this version only ran at 30, the thought wouldn't have even crossed my mind otherwise) but if it's true about them removing the credits entirely, that's kind of... well dumb.
"Best way of playing the game." IGN completely forgot about the Wii version. This game is PERFECT for motion controls. I've played it on PS2, Wii and PS3, and the Wii version is by far the best one.
I said it before when I finished the original game on PS2 and I'll say it again today, this game is MAGNIFICENT.
