    When I was a kid I fished Unicorn Lake in Cherry Tree off of 39th... Basically unlimited Blue Gill and some very large bass.

      The ponds in Mile Run are also overrun with bass.

    Awesome, I've actually never caught a bass in that section - I need smaller lures I think. I've pulled a few 2-3 pounders out of the bridge section further down (before it was dredged and made too shallow). And back in 2021, I pulled a 4 pounder out from behind Wynwood Apartments section. Now, all that area is too shallow as well.

      I have seen some bigger ones behind Wynwood last year, but agree, the water is very shallow.

    Small world! Saw this posted on /r/GNV. I used to hang out with friends in those condos behind you around like 2003-2005. Used to see tons of bass in that creek. Glad to see they’re still there. I’m pretty sure the one you caught is a spotted bass.

      I looked on FWC’s Fish Range Finder (atoll.floridamarine.org/fishRange/), and it looks like Spotted Bass are only up in the panhandle of Florida. This is probably just a juvenile Largemouth Bass. It has some spots on it, but not as many as a Spotted Bass would have.

    I want to agree the small bass was a spotted bass. And maybe the first fish was a green sunfish. Hard to I.D. them a lot of the time. Thanks for sharing!

    • @GNVfishing
      @GNVfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try the FDOT pond out by the Gainesville Airport. That one is pretty consistent!

    Nice, glad to see you pull a nice little bass out. Was it on that jig?

    • @GNVfishing
      @GNVfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The small bass was on the jig, and the bigger bass was on a live worm.

    Is there tilapia in there?

    • @GNVfishing
      @GNVfishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t seen tilapia there. It doesn’t mean they there aren’t. There are tilapia at the Enclave Apartments.

    Also, not sure if you've checked it out yet, but there's a worm store behind the comic book store "Worms wiggle in"

    What places are the fish safe to eat that you catch. It seems Hogtown Creek was full of bacteria from fecal matter, back in 2015. Is that still true in 2023?

    • @GNVfishing
      @GNVfishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, I am not sure I would eat fish from most of these places. A bunch of these places have water runoff from streets, and apartment complexes that use fertilizer/insecticides/algaecides.
      I did eat fish I caught out at Steinhatchee. Maybe Newnans Lake, but there has been nasty algae blooms out there too. Lake Santa Fe is cleaner. Santa Fe River is another option. Maybe Cross Creek between Orange Lake and Lake Lochloosa. I just don’t trust these creeks/ponds locally.

    • @angiesyt
      @angiesyt ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GNVfishing…
      Thank you! I agree, with not trusting the local ponds and such. I prefer rivers, springs, and the larger lakes, but it’s hard to find areas with fishing docks that are open to the public around here; unless I just don’t know where to go. Have you fished at Payne’s Prairie, on 441 side? I see a lot of people fishing over there, but (again) I’m not sure if it’s safe to eat from there?

    • @GNVfishing
      @GNVfishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@angiesyt every time I have gone over there, it has been closed off with the construction, or the wind had pushed the floating vegetation over and there was no open water. You almost need a west to east wind.
      Just south of Paynes Prairie is Lake Wauberg. There is a UF affiliated area that you can get in for free with a gator1 card. Across from there is a state park entrance that is like $4. There’s no gas motors allowed on the lake, and there’s a fishing pier on the state park side you can try.
      Further south from there on Orange Lake is Heagy Burry boat ramp you could try. There’s also a boat ramp in Cross Creek across from Marjorie Rawlings state park, or I have seen people fishing the bridge off county road 325 (still cross creek).
