Agreed. Accepting to warm the bench at Barcelon at the peak of Barcelona's powers is not dishonourable in any way. (Perhaps a different career choice could have netted him more over his whole career, but he did not have a crystal ball.)
So he cared more about money than about the game, which makes a lot of sense for nearly all professioal players - it is their profession. I don't think Song did anything wrong chasing the money. Most footballers do, just that they are not as vocal about it as Alex Song was. Only a few high rated football players can choose where they get to play. On the other hand, the majority of professional footballers play for a club that offers them essentially a "job" with a decent salary. This is the same as in any profession. It's usually fans that complain about the passion and loyalty of football players while these fans are collecting salaries from jobs which they usually hate (assuming they have one). They forget that for most players football is the major talent they have to get decent wages. They forget that teams these days are no longer made up of footballers that grew up in their local areas wishing to play for their local area clubs yet we expect these players to have loyalty to their teams. Not going to happen - it's just a job for them. That's why it is called professional football not loyalty football.
