    I think we don't blame Mendes enough for messing up Felix's career purely for economic reasons. He is not the only one to blame, of course, but it is obvious that he moved Joao to Atleti because he thought it would be easy to move him again for a big fee (more commisions). He had the option to go to ManCity at the time, it would have been a much better choice style wise.
    And I support Atleti and have seen every match Joao has played for us. Ah last point, we are NOT keeping him hostage. He is pretty much up for sale, but he has to bring offers, can't leave for free, can he?

Not many people have said it but I never understood how Joao had control over Atletico as his contract was expiring and instead of letting it run out he EXTENDS before moving on loan to Chelsea. Atleti with Simeone football , Chelsea when they have no striker and are in turmoil. Had he been loaned out to Arsenal or Manchester United for a less ridiculous fee, we could've been talking about a big transfer this summer. I hope somehow he is able to get his career back on track. The Problem with Felix is, that he got a huge price tag because of his potential, but that potential never got realized. If you are honest, he had one impressive season at Benfica about 5 years ago and was nothing but an average squad player ever since, unfortunately with the antics of somebody who believes to be a superstar. Also it seems like he has not really matured in the last 5 years, not mentally and not physically either. Why would any club pay 50+ mil for felix at this stage of his career, especially if players like Diaby, who is very similar in terms of style but vaastly superior as an overall player, have recently sold for much chaeper and at cheaper wages? Felix is very stuck on his current contract, atletico can not recoup anything close to the fee that they paid, because i do not see any club paying more than 40 mil for felix right now and on top of that, Felix would have to be fine with his wages to be cut in half because only very few clubs can afford him and he is just not the caliber of player the top clubs need. It is sad to say for such a young player, but i could seriously see him ending up in Saudi Arabia before the deadline, as that seems to be the only situation where atletico can get a huge sum of money and felix can stay on his wages. The other option would be some kind of compromise where madrid is ok with taking a huge loss and felix is willing to renegotiate his current contract with the new club for heavily reduced wages, but i do not see that happening.

      @Pi7on. ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your comment has its merits but I disagree Diaby is a better footballer. As a winger, in terms of speed and shooting yes. But football includes so many attibutes. Felix is ahead in the vast majority: vision, potential (yes, it still applies because he is 23), technique, ball control, passing, versatility (he can play in any position in the attacking half), first touch, flair, etc. While I agree that Felix has some responsibility for his lack of performance, it can also be said that he has had bad luck in his career. Benfica did not want to sell him, but was forced to when Atletico met its 120M€ release clause - similar to what happened recently with Enzo Fernandez. The reason why this was bad luck is because Atletico Madrid's style does not fit in with Felix's profile and Simeone was not the one that forced the purchase, but the Atletico's President. Simeone is a great coach and Felix is a great player but they are not compatible. A relatively similar situation happened a few years ago between Mourinho and Pogba - one a great manager and the other a great player, but unfortunately not compatible. The struggle for power within the club ended up ruining both. Mourinho got sacked and Pogba rarely played. it's life.

    • @cadrollhunting3564
      @cadrollhunting3564 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pi7on. I see where your are coming from, but to me you are still talking about the Joao Felix of 5 years ago at Benfica, since that, he has been an average football player and simply has not shown the quality you attribute to him. The Pogba comparison is quite good, because they both never lived up to their potential, i just still think pogba reached a much higher level than felix did before he declined. I think James Rodriguez is a better comparison, or Marko Marin if you remember him. Marin is actually the best comp in my eyes, amazing potential and output in a smaller league, similar playstyle and especially similar lack of phisicality and just no translation of their games to a bigger league.
      I have to disagree with the "bad luck" part. Players in football can not be transferred against their own will, and while the release clause was paid, Felix also had to agree to that deal in order for it to happen. If you sign a big contract with a club, one of the first things you do is talking to the manager, so felix had every chance to talk to simeone and back out of the deal if he does not agree with his vision for him. The recent Barcelona statements just show how shifted felix self-image is, he is very far away from beeing a barcelona player and should be greatful if he finds a taker for his contract that is not in saudi arabia. And with his phisical deficancy, i just do not see him in the PL at all, which even excludes all the villas and west hams and such, which usually could maybe afford his contract. he is in a really stuck situation and i think he has to find his spot at atletico, spend most of his contract on the bench or go to saudi.

      He was never anything like Griezmann. They differ greatly in their style of football. Felix is very talented with ball on his feet, his dribbles, first and second touches, turns, flicks and tricks, and even movement/runs are great. But Griezmann, beyond his superior goals/assists numbers, was/is able to take control of the team's buildup and bring direction to the attack. Atletico's offense often looked purposeless during those Felix-led years (relying on individual brilliance from Suarez, Carrasco, Felix, Llorente), whereas with Grizi in, the whole team looks more dangerous since Griezmann is so much better at pulling strings and involving others. Also, Griezmann is a great (indirect) set-piece taker. However, most of all, I think Simeone never took to Felix because Felix couldn't show the same tenacity/commitment and defensive/pressing capabilities as Griezmann.

    Just watched the first section and I have to say I disagree a lot on what you said. If you watched Joao even at Benfica the way he moved linked up with teammates and scored was a near copycat of how Griezmann played yes he wasn’t as hard working but he was young and still developing so a move to Atleti to be Griezmann replacement and eventually upgrade in my eyes was always a good move for both him and the club. Plus the idea that they will be unable to move him on if it failed because of the fee is imo very shortsighted. He is still young especially now and look at Havertz who has failed at Chelsea but still got a big move elsewhere with his original value still intact. The problem with Felix is his off and on the field stuff. His comments and public falling out with Simeone has made ppl doubt his character, his bizarre decision to go to Chelsea when clubs more suited and in better positions in terms of play style, stability and league wise were in for him also puts a mark on him and his value and also his lack of real development on and off the pitch is also a worry. Ofc Atleti are demanding a lot because they need to protect themselves financially but also clubs know how bad the situation is and they know by waiting they can possibly get him for far cheaper if no one else is willing to bite the bullet and overspend. Blaming Mendes in this situation is wrong in my eyes esp when so many reports say it was Joao making these decisions and overruling advice. Need to watch until the end of this video but I don’t think it is over for Joao he still has a lot of time to make it work but it will need him to actually grow up be committed and push through in the bad times and the good. In my eyes he can still prove ppl wrong at Atleti under Simeone or he can still move elsewhere and do well but he first needs to show that and the Barca comments are doing the exact opposite of that

    ETH has already got the likes of Rashford and AWB back into form at United, so it's *possible* he could do that for Felix (like he will hope to do fot Mount, too).

    Joao Felix’s career hasn’t reached a trajectory that has been positive. For me I think the move to Atletico Madrid for him was a little premature because he only has one very good season there and if he stayed for a little longer I’m sure he would be ready for the next step and move in his career but when there too early and plus with his playing style and he wants to play with freedom and express himself he was never a good fit for Atletico Madrid and he and Diego Simeone failed to coexist together. There have been multiple games where he’s been benched and he hasn’t helped himself with the injuries and he’s always been an inconsistent player because he’s a player that can have many great moments and can barely maintain his form which makes it impossible for managers to get proper use out of him. It just didn’t work out for him at Atletico Madrid and he has seen his stock decline with every passing month and his loan spell at Chelsea wasn’t a good move either as he joined a club that was rotting in mid table for most of last season and they were in a bad position even before he was loaned there. Now Mauricio Pochettino has decided not to sign him permanently and now he’s back at Atletico Madrid where there he’s unwanted and he doesn’t want to be there as well. He’s had some suitors like Manchester United Aston Villa Newcastle and PSG but the issue with this is he doesn’t have any suitors that can pay his salary and recently he did something that was controversial. In an interview with Fabrizio Romano, Joao Felix stated that his dream is to play for Barcelona and he hopes that the move happens. He plays for Atletico Madrid he’s saying that he wants to play for a direct rival and everyone at Atletico Madrid weren’t happy with his recent comments and they need to move him on. He wants a move to Barcelona and the stumbling block on a possible transfer for him is can they really afford him he’s on a high salary there and are they even in a great financial state to get him on their books. Joao Felix is stuck at Atletico Madrid he has 4 years left on his contract and he’s on 250k a week and based off of his recent performances he hasn’t done well enough to earn a move to a much bigger club and he’s found it difficult to find a new club and he needs to get his crap together.

    While Jao Felix is very talented, he's always struck me as more of a unique talent in the mold of Couthinho that you need to build a team around and not more universal talent like Suarez that can be successful in many teams and systems. While I will admit I haven't watched much of Jao at Benfica, his best moments and highlights reminded me of another Benfica player, Lazar Markovic, both seemed to excel at the counter game, getting a ball somewhere around midfield and driving at the retreating defense. Athletico best teams were with Diego Costa playing bully ball, with Costa being an outlet, holding up that ball, fighting everyone until his teammates made their way up field, I think Simeone trying to evolve with Suarez and other forwards at the same time Jao has come in has hurt Jao, I actually think getting him a partner like Olivier Giroud might have sacrificed some aspects of the team, it might had unleashed Jao though, and one has to remember, Athletico had some VERY good crossing fullbacks over the years and Giroud LOVES heading the ball in the box.

Anyone that watched us play saw that he was actually pretty good and even if he did flop, you easily could have argued that it was due to Chelsea and not him. That's what a lot of players did and what Chelsea did to sell a few players.
    He was also fitting a role of that the club needed and would normally pay for him, along with being associated as a big clu. The issue was that he came when Chelsea was moving to a new style of operating in the market and even then we were tempted to get him, it was Poch who decided against it.

He's clearly very talented so he'll surprise you with a great touch or a dribble. However he'll undo all of that with his next move by misplacing his pass or not positioning himself correctly.
    Another thing to be said about him is that he has shades of Requilme and Ozil. Those free moving number 8s (or enganches) are getting rarer and rarer because teams wants all players to press or atleast have some defensive skills/awareness. I wonder how Joaos career would have panned out if he played in the 80s of early 90s.

People like Mendez can point to the big money moves they've engineered, including in this case saying, "I got 'tight-fisted' Atleti to pay 120 million, and that player was overrated". It's akin to hanging a "sold over asking" sign in front of him.

      This is not true as someone who watches Atletico (Not support them). This was also discussed on Rabona TV Jao Felix Part 1. Simeone style of being too defensive provides results. The owners though wanted to get their team more global. Ownerships idea was to have Simeone incorporate a more attractive style of football. Over the years, Atletico has signed quality strikers, quality attackers not just Jao isolated by himself. That style resulted Simeone to had his worst season at Atletico finishing below top 4 and the owners furious at the result. Jump last year after they let go of Felix to Chelsea. Simeone reverted back to his old tactics and they finished and climb back to an impressive 3rd place. Jao though, keep in mind it didn't work out because he was injury prone in his time at Atletico and very impatient. It took Greizman perhaps 2-3 seasons to settle down and being a regular once his improved his work rate under Diego.
