    You might be the first reviewer to finally explain why not all EVs are going to have frunks and don’t need to. VW prioritised cabin space, others choose to make a separate additional compartment. Both are valid solutions and just depends on what you care more about.

    • @OutofSpecReviews
      @OutofSpecReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Yes! I usually just stuff cables in the front trunk, these can go in the trunk underfloor. I’d rather the interior space, personally.

      The Nissan Ariya did likewise. Lots of space in them. Too bad the car is so boring and plasticky overall. I passed on the Ariya.

    Both Kyle Conner and Bjorn Nyland like this car. Yet there are many rather negative reviews about it, but the connecting factor to that is that the reviewers don't actually know anything about EVs (As opposed to Kyle and Bjorn, who are the two best EV connaisseurs out there). I think this car will smash. No it won't kill Tesla, but it might be a good gateway from fossil cars.

    If you delete a (square) shortcut navigation map from the infotainment, lag is gone. You can do this by long pressing the map shortcut and replace it with something else (like driving data etc). If you need a map, the icon shortcut is still on the main page.

    And since you asked at the end of the video, I just did my "additional $400" deposit on a Pro S + Gradient AWD in Blue. My friend did the same w/ Red which I think is the most expensive one you can spec out since red paint has an upcharge. Pretty exciting that after NY+federal tax rebates its gonna be right around $40,000.
    To get a bit meta for a second, I like that your reviews seem to reflect excitement for the actual product and its most important features without ignoring legitimate concerns like plug and charge or the infotainment screen-change lag. A lot of reviewers seem to fall into the category of "I'm reading the press release off a cue card" or "I'm going to latch onto one thing I didn't like and completely ignore legitimate good things or more-pressing bad things" (so many reviewers who won't shut up about the lack of a frunk).
    I bet driving/owning a lot of different EVs probably gets you a more sensible perspective on what is and isn't important, so we end up with good content like this.

    I am not a gear head (currently driving a 12 yr old Mazda 3), but I’m in the market for a new car so I’m watching a ton of reviews videos right now. I am blown away by how much better your videos are than anything else I’ve seen. You’re giving information I couldn’t find on VW’s website or get at the dealership. Explaining *why* there are rear drum brakes is so helpful so I can understand the context of people’s (generally uninformed) gripes. I could not care less about 0-60 speeds on a car that will never see a race track except from the parking lot but that seems to figure heavily in a lot of review videos. It’s also nice to have the uselessness of a front trunk confirmed. Maybe in a sedan it would be helpful, but who wants to mess with that when you have a power liftgate with kick-to-open? I was getting seriously frustrated trying to find what should be basic functionality for a review to cover. I appreciate you so much right now.

For example the screen over the panoramic roof and the more relaxed 0 to 60 speed. Very interesting about keeping the battery temperature at 77°. Generally I’m reluctant to buy a first edition car however, with over the air software updates any issues hopefully can be ironed out for time. I look forward to the driving portion my understanding is that it is quiet and smooth those are the probably the top two requirements for a car for me. currently waiting for my local VW dealer to get one for a test drive. This review is so refreshing and different from most reviewers in Europe. Most of them complain about the use of cheap feeling plastics and extensive cost cutting measures to save a few bucks. I mean why complain about the buggy software when you know that one day in the future they will enable the over the air updates after a quick visit your local dealership to get that update. Why complain about the fisher price looking dashboard when you know your eyes should be on looking at the road ahead. 99.9% of the time. And even thou its currently RWD drive think of all the engineering required to have a front trunk or the extra storage space that most people will never need. Most of the other manufactures are just wasting resources putting front trunks in their vehicles. Its built for the millions of average people so its supposed to be average and not exceptional in most comparable aspects. This vehicle will be hard to beat with the $7500 FED incentive in the U.S. and you definitely get what you paid for. I think for the average person in the U.S. this is a no-brainer!!

When you get to charging, it would be great if you could also comment on the EA charging network compared to TSC network, especially for someone new to EVs - not only on availability but also on ease of use and reliability. I'm considering the ID4 AWD but not sure what the impact will be to range - if you have any insight on that, would be great if you could mention in one of the upcoming videos or comment here.

    Good review with many good information nuggets.
    One of the best comments is at the end discussing 8 second 0 to 60 times. First of all, it is 0 to 30 or 40 that really matters from stoplights (the only place you go 0 to anything on city streets). Secondly, the most fun and exhilarating car I have ever owned was an '06 Miata (about 7 seconds). It spent many a happy mile on race tracks and carving up mountain roads. Nobody who I let drive that car or who I took for a ride ever called it slow. It is how a car feels that matters. The instant torque even on my old front wheel drive '11 LEAF could beat most cars off the line in city traffic. My current '18 Chevy Volt cruises effortlessly and silently at 100mph though few drivers of any car ever go that fast. 0-60 specs, much like EPA range numbers, don't mean nearly as much as most people think they do.

    Greetings Kyle,
    Did you know @9:01 that the DC cover can plug into the charge port door to keep it from dangling?
    Take a look and verify if I am correct or not.
    Maybe your Editor can add some text to mention that if it is correct.

    I enjoyed the review. I have had an ID.4 PRO S for about 2 months now. Generally very happy with the vehicle. You commented that you could LOCK the car by walking away from it and UNLOCK it when you approached. I can get my car to UNLOCK upon approach but I cannot get it to LOCK when walking away from it. Can you confirm that this worked in both directions for the vehicle you were testing? Thank you.

    There's a shortcut for turning on the heated seats. Just a two finger double touch on either side of the climate control slide and they turn on full, another dbl touch and its at 2, then 1, then back to off. Very easy, dealership showed me when I picked up my FE.

    • @mamadouaziza2536
      @mamadouaziza2536 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, because the iD.4 was purposely built as a comfortable GT like family cruiser compared to the Mach e, which is more sport's tuned.

      I got to sit and a Mach-e and it felt cramped. The ID.4 seems more spacious. And Kyle is about my size as well.

    Do the ID light + heads up display + smaller display all indicate directions with CarPlay navigation, or does it only work with VW’s the onboard navigation? BMW began integrating with the CarPlay for directions in heads up display and its great.

    I had a Ford CMax (US Version) for a while. That car had what I call a "Cajones Cooler" vent that I thought was amazing; basically a dedicated air vent that blows at your, well, balls, for lack of a better word. IMHO, very important in the hot southwest of America.

    100% agree that it's a better car than the Model Y. ID4 is fantastic! I'll say that with the deals you can get on a Chevy Bolt that you can't get a better value than that, but if you're looking for a true, electric SUV, this is it.

    Totally agree with you on everything. Also interested in the AWD version. My biggest issue though is that I want a top-spec'd model without the panoramic roof. There hasn't been a lot of publication about it (maybe because it's too new), but I don't think glass roofs are safe.

      Thank you for this! I test drove an ID4 on Saturday and really liked it and have one on order, but my biggest annoyance was only two toggles for the windows and it's hard to tell without taking your eyes off the road whether you've hit the button for REAR windows because it is a smooth surface that lights up. But knowing that the feature you mentioned is there makes me much happier b/c I roll down all the windows at once more than you'd think!

    This is the warm up for the AWD version. add 102hp and then it will be interesting. (Tesla owners are cult members so 98% of their opinion is negated.). Your videos are better than Inoffensive. ;). Actually I love your reviews!
    I would say charging speed is more important than battery size which might make the IONIQ 5 the choice for me.

  • @NeilBlanchard
    @NeilBlanchard 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The front tires are 235/50-20 and the rear is 255/45-20
    Coasting is also more efficient - it uses more of the kinetic energy moving the car forward. Regen loses more of that energy vs coasting - so regen makes sense when you want/need to slow down, obviously. But it can't make up as much energy, as coasting can use. Even better, when you coast, you accelerate less over time.
    Push and hold the Rear window button, it will flash - and then you can lower / raise all 4 windows at once.
    My wish list:
    heat pump
    heated rear seats
    direct heating windshield (may be coming on AWD models)
    ID Light visible from outside the front of the car during charging
