    Enjoying the videos.
    A couple of questions: you seem to have fished many of the classic Scottish salmon rivers. Are there any that you havn't fished that you would like to try?
    Which river would you recommend to a beginner i.e one where he/she doesn't have to bang in 20m plus casts to reach the lies?
    Tight Lines.

      I have fished most of the Classic rivers and a lot that are not supposed to be that great and had some success .. It depends on the time of year that you want to fish if it's in the late Autumn the Upper Tweed can be good . In the summer the Upper Tay and usually you can find affordable beats. the Northern spate rivers are excellent if there is water but can be very expensive in the summer when they are at their beast . The Erict around Blairgowrie in the summer have good runs of fish given water and Kate Flemmings Tackle shop is a good idea for information . The river Earn has some big fish and can produce excellent sea trout
      Im afraid that there are two many to mention and hopefully these rivers can meet your needs. Cheers Iain. 🥃

      Thank you for your advise. The Upper Tay around Kenmore is probably where i will head then. I hiked through this area -across the mountains- in my youth, and i have never forgotten the walk coming down into Kenmore. Very pretty. Yes, its mostly about the surroundings for me. If I get a fish thats great, but it not the be all.@@IainSB

    Some days are just too hot for comfort. Beautiful varied water . Was the water hot? Scotland seems to have the same malaise as Newfoundland - very few fish returning so far. All the fish counts appear to be down 80% compared with even last year. Hope things pick up soon on both sides of the pond. Keep 'em coming Iain!
    cheers,
    Steve

      Thanks Stevie. The catch returns seem to follow a five year circle . five years ago the catches were terrible but not quite a bad as this years . I think that the water conditions aren't helping. so doing a rain dance most evenings 🥃

    Definitely some nice pools there Iain . I don't think there's many fish or you would have pull one out 👍

      its strange Paul , I think that fish are running the river after dark there are some low water beats that are picking up fresh fish further upstream
      Cheers Iain. 🥃

    I feel sorry for you Ian and i have to say i am really glad i live here in Norway....

      The Norwegian owned salmon farms here in Scotland are a major part of the problem unfortunately my friend, the owners of them say differently of course, but the scientific evidence is there for everyone to see and its gathering momentum, Canada is the very same ..

      I think that billy is right in his comment about salmon farms . In Norway salmon farms have been find for bad practice and now have changed their farming methods. SEPA have been told by the Scottish government to drop certain cases where pollution has occurred because it may be departmental to future jobs in the industry there seems to be a lot of issues surrounding salmon farms and there ownership Cheers Iain. 🥃

      @@IainSB nothing has change about salmonfarming in Norway, that's pure BS. Pollution and lice and diseases are the same and the pen's are still open...

    it seems salmon have been taken at sea and very few coming back to the rivers.

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      the fish that do return have a large percentage with disease from coming in contact with escape salmon from the fish farms
      there are quite a few factors but I think that salmon farms are the main problem .... It has been proven that this is the case but the Scottish government seeem to have blinkers on

      in Norway the environment group have the power to fine anyone polluting and the salmon farms have had several fines and had to clean up their bad practises

      @@IainSB The Scottish government are constantly lobbied by Salmon farmers probably relying on the large `visible` tax revenues to underpin their dubious credentials.

    Thank you for the video. What line are you using please?

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry about the time it's taken to respond I have been out splashing about in the water. the line I am using is a airflow rage compact floating head 10/11 and it suits my Shakespeare Scandi 10Weight 14ft 9in The running line is a cheap mill end one that cost me £7.99 . I also have a 5ft floating polly tip .... I hope that helps Its all about getting a line / head that can load the rod easily and it cuts down on the effort you have to put into your casting Cheers Iain 🥃

      @CleddauFly ปีที่แล้ว

      @IainSB thanks for the reply. I actually already use that line setup on my scandi. But I've not thought of using a floating polyleader on it. Makes sense in this low water. Hopefully some rain on the way soon. 🙏

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that when the weather is hot and the water temp is high the only time the fish will travel is when it's dark Billy...... one of the other beats that PDAA fish is a low water beat and it has been producing fish and that's about 10 miles upstream so they must be going through .
