      If you look at the landscape Mitch you will see that there are very few trees and those that survive are mostly bent over .... you can end up at the bar in the evening feeling tired after fishing the against the elements

    I love the wild bleakness of the Thurso and its surrounding. It’s what really makes it special for me. Can’t wait to get back up there later in the season! 🎣

      I am going to try book up if there is availability . I use to go the first week in August and had some good catches . I had 14 for three days once Cheers Iain 🥃

    I love those wild windswept moorland landscapes. Unchanged for centuries.

      the wind can certainly howl Laurie . It needs a bit of a breeze to get the fish to come to a fly on the slacker waters .
      Cheers Iain🥃

    That would blow the cobwebs away Iain... Its amazing how big the sky is up there! Looked very fishy though.. especially the stream through the Lough. Nice to spend time with family... fish are just a bonus. Enjoy your trip! Cheers James 🥃

    Hello Iain, Nice to see you out and about fishing in very difficult conditions by the looks of things , very rugged up there where you were but not rewarded for your efforts. Nice to see you out with your brother shame nothing attached to your fly. Thanks Iain great video look forward to the next. 🍷👍 Steve.

      Thanks Stephen I have managed to get Roy to come fishing a few times over the years and although it was difficult I think he may come and have another cast or two but I think his heart lies in screaming down the mountain on a couple of planks
      I hope all is well with you both Cheers Iain 🥃

      All good here Iain Thankyou, The river usk where I’m fishing hasn’t been productive at all so far even though we’ve had plenty of rain and nothing showing but still nice to get the line on the water and have a go. Hope you have better luck next time Iain. 👍

    Mate , that’s exactly how my 2 weeks were in Inverness when I visited some friends,low cloud and squalling showers
    Bergen where I visited from is not much better at this time of the year 😊🥃🍺

      The weather this year hasn't been great Stephen , causing rivers to go up and down and seldom settled ... Summer is coming and hopefully the summer salmon will come in big numbers .
      its been quite a few years since I to the ferry to Bergen to have fun in Norway and have great memories traveling around and having a cast Cheers Iain. 🥃

    Not a day for the weak hearted you might say! But a good family day out which helped I guess and the beers would have been a bonus.

      The food and the beer at the Ubster arms Hotel are excellent Mr Mazo
      a day on the river makes it imposable to spend hours there . The beds are comfortable and seem to start shouting my name around 10.30. I think I may have mentioned before that Lou Reid sang about Just a perfect day and even although fish-less I still sung myself to sleep with this tune Cheers Iain 🥃

      It's the whole package Mr Mazo the Ulbster Arms Hotel cater for visiting anglers . the conversation in the bar in the evening is entertaining with the events of the day . even once you have gone to bed and go for breakfast there are still accounts of anglers fighting fish or the elements
      Cheers Iain 🥃

    As good as the catches on the Thurso are I wouldn't thank you for a week on there, miserable windy looking place, not my cup of tea

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's defiantly a Marmite river Ross There are so many anglers go back two or three times a year and there's others go once and never return I am one of the sad ones that keep returning . I think it pulls e back after my first visit I had 5 Springers for my week and had varying amount of success in the years since. I think my best three days I had 14 . what a magnet to get drawn back with Cheers Iain 🥃

    Looks a bleak place a bit canal looking water next time.

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a bit of a river that has its share of slow deep pools and a lot of anglers adapt to the elements with backing up .
      I have never found this successful but I think that I do it wrong
      Cheers Iain 🥃
